Let winter go out with a bang

Summary: Snow sculpture competition! How good are your skills?

If anyone is walking by today past the outer edges of the town they'll notice large snow pillars holding up a banner. Its white with dark blue letters painted on it that say "Luceti's first Snow Sculpture Competition!" Beyond said pillars is an open space large enough for numerous people to gather around and make things to their hearts content. Off to the side will be tons of tables set-up holding hot beverages and foods and the like to keep the cold out and everyone energized as they work on their sculptures.

A simple, fun, little competition to make use of all the snow they've gotten this year. And who knows it might end up in more than just a competition (a snowball fight perhaps?) anything is possible in Luceti after all.

[His brows arch at the sudden touch of her hands, baffled and a little unnerved at the display of concern.] I'm not sick, Doc. [Tired. In pain. But not sick.] I'd be whining at someone through the journals if I was sick! [The victim would be decided by random coin flip or impulsive decision.

...but it was a truth. It was nothing concise, nothing clear, but it was still a truth. Wasn't that what she wanted a few weeks back, in the tunnels?]

[No, no he wasn't. He was being truthful of his own accord and that, once the concern passed, made Adele relax enough to offer him a smile and soft laugh. She pulls her hand back, slips her glove on again and resumes sipping her cider. Honesty from a master thief. She may very well have to consider him a friend, now.]

Good. The very last thing you need right now is to be ill on top of your ribs. If you were sick I cannot help but think you'd hang half outside your window throwing snowballs down on the populace for amusement.

You know? I probably would be! [if he was sick, he'd more likely be whining a Jigen and praying to a God he barely believed in that he didn't cough again for the pain. He would definitely not be out and about as he was. The stillness would likely be more unnerving for Adele than his small shred of honesty.

He sips at his cider, wondering how on earth to figure Adele on his short list now. Friend? Sure. He could always use more friends. Allie when he decides to make his ideas a reality? Maybe...but still tentative. It was a risk, and he didn't want to get her killed even on accident.

Her laughter was reassuring.]

If I do get sick, I know who to call in the future.

I should hope. The alternative would be far more distracting. [Adele couldn't rightly imagine the village without the flit of a red jacket in the corner of her eye, the lingering echo of Lupin's chuckle. The sights and sounds of mischief, of bright, cheerful chaos on a good day. The village isn't silent on it's own by any means but without Lupin it'd be just a little dimmer, and that'd be enough.]

I still can't quite do house calls to your flat Lupin, [Not for lack of trying, the meditation just...wasn't going well. At all.] But if you need me to? I can try.

[He'd be impressed if he knew how much of an impact he's already made on the minds of the residents during his few short months there. While Adele arrived in January, he had only arrived in November, the cycle just before.

He watched her, tempted to touch her arm or her shoulder, but refraining. It'd be too much, especially at this time.] I don't want to be taking care of my doctor when I'm sick myself, Dellie! [A joke. It was always a joke.] I'm sure Jigen or Pops would work something out, or we could even rope your Ben in to help. You're not coming to my place again until you get that anxiety under control. We...don't need a repeat performance.

[fleurdesel]

Fine, fine. I won't push myself to visit your apartment before I'm over that anxiety. [Not something she was normally comfortable discussing at all but...it was a good day, Lupin wasn't running himself ragged. All in all she could let it sli- wait what had he said.

He is not 'my Ben'. He's just Ben. Obi-Wan. [She bites down on anything else because, defensive? Yes. And that was a tell any idiot could pick up on and he did this on purpose the little bastard.]

[Lupin only smiles at this, not commenting on the fact that she just revealed herself entirely. Not only was she friends with Obi-Wan, she was fond of him. Fond in what way was to be figured out later.

...she was aware that Jedi were generally celibate, right?]

Right. Whatever you say. When you get over it, come by my place. I'll borrow Fujiko's system and we can watch Bond films one night. We oughta do that anyway. [half shrug. He was just speculating.]

A French master thief that watches an English spy. Wait...he is not here too, is he? That would be too much. [Adele massages the bridge of her nose, just trying to wrap her mind around that possibility. She can only handle so many fictional characters popping up in her social circle at one time.]

Whoever, I would not be adverse to it. I must confess, I have not seen most because of work. My ex-husband, though, was a fan.

No, James Bond isn't here...my girlfriend just happens to like his films and has a stash of them. I'll...probably end up camping in her room and watching them sometime soon, since my doctor will do something unethical otherwise.

[He casts her a sidelong glance, clearly amused by her discomfort.]

Her rooms on the top level though. So's her equipment. If you want to watch, I'm gonna need to haul all that down...

and we don't need you breaking your oath. I'm gonna need a few hands.

Unethical, illegal, immortal, and entirely warranted if you continue to wander around like this. No stressful physical activity means exactly that. None. [A casual reach out to the side, a quick tug on Lupin's earlobe. No smack, no pat, no snark, just an honest comment and a teasing gesture.]

No need to haul everything down Lupin. I'll be busy the next few days, or rather, I'll be hiding. I've no desire to be wrapped up in any kind of shift induced romance. At all.

You're asking me to do nothing then. Riiight. Is you head screwed on straight? [This...was the wierdest teasing gesture he'd experienced it. It was completely unlike Jigen's random but brotherly headlocks and more reminiscent of a displeased school teacher...except for that smile.

While Adele claimed that Lupin would be the death of her, he was starting to wonder if she would be the same to him.]

...Yeah. I'll be laying low too. I don't have the patience for romance right now. [Not with Fujiko mallynapped, and especially not with every woman in Luceti being more willing to lecture or kick than flirt.]

Last I checked? Yes. I know it's antithetical for you but the more you are out and about Lupin, the worse it is going to be, the longer it will take to heal. So if you are resting, just. Resting, in your room for...three days in a row. Just three days. I will see what I can do about getting someone with healing magic up to you to knit your ribs.

[It wasn't much, since she didn't know of many that could perform that kind of magic, but...asking him to be still for the weeks on end it would take him to heal on his own would drive him crazy.]

One catastrophe of a relationship is enough for me, thank you. Anything shift induced will not end well. [Adele snorts.] Were they truly sadistic they'd bind me to Stark.

I'll...see what I can do. [He didn't like the idea of sitting still, though he had a feeling he'd probably sleep for most of that time, and was even more wary of the idea of someone using magic on him. Sure, he'd seen Grune's display, and had Daisy channel Nala on him, but it was still unnerving.

He didn't want to become reliant on something he didn't want to keep, in any case.]

I've got my girl, Fujiko. She's...been mallynapped, and she'd be pissed if she comes back to me having slept with another woman on her. You don't want to see her pissed. She has these PPKs, a couple of Thompsons, and knives left and right.

...and I'll kill Stark myself if they put you and him together. [he's gonna kill Stark anyway...pfft. Loopy.]

Two days? One? More than three hours straight? [Adele sighs and shakes her head, rubbing her face with a hand. There was no way Lupin could be still, not even for his ribs. The past week was a testament to that. She'd just...have to sneak out without running into anyone to check up on him.]

So someone else to give me more work in the village. I would ask if there were any sane individuals left here but...[She shrugs, finishes her cider, and sets her cub down next to her. That last bit though caught her attention.

Adele turns to face Lupin, brow quirked.] I confess to being somewhat surprised at your vehemence, even with the nickname he gave you.

C'est impossible, desole. [He drains his cup and shrugs again. Stillness was paramount to sin for him, and something he'd never really be comfortable with.]

Fujiko...know's what she's doing, but she's been here for a long enough time that you can see it wearing on her. [Pointed look.] And I'm sorry, Tonton just strikes me as a fratboy with a big gun who shouldn't be the hero he claims to be. If we weren't here, I'd find a way to ruin him in a second, for the fun of it.

[In the end, though, he's aware that Tony is as much a player as he is. His friends were all gained through mutual attempts a murder--maybe anything with Tony will have a better end than anticipated.]

[fleurdesel]

I will have to send you home with more painkillers, if you persist in moving about so much.

[Adele listens with open interest, curious about the woman that Lupin cares about, he she knew through the novels, and Jigen through one night of sobering up. Zenigata she'd met, but Fujiko and Goemon were mysteries to her. But were they his contemporaries? They must be remarkable individuals indeed.]

I would almost dare you to do as much here, were it not for your ribs. Later, maybe. It would be funny to watch.

I'll remember you said that, Dellie. My memory is pretty good too! [putting it lightly...]

And that might be a good idea on your part. Very thorough. [Getting him to remember to take them, though, is another story.]

[fleurdesel]

I suppose I'll have to remind you as well, since you've been lax in taking those I already gave you. [A message every morning will do the trick. Maybe. Or it would irritated him. Hm.]

Yeah. Don't do that. [He's smiling, though. Annoying, yes. But it's also nice knowing someone cares at least a little bit.]

[fleurdesel]

If I don't, you won't take them, you'll be in more pain than you need to and then you'll be wandering the village, pissed because you're tired and angry, and causing trouble. Perhaps enough that you'll be injured, again, and it will take even longer for your to recover. So.

[A pointed look.] I will remind you by whatever means necessary.

Dellie. Remember those bullet scars? I took down a dictator a week after getting one of those. This? It's nothing.

[smile.] Do whatever makes you feel better though.

[fleurdesel]

You did not have me on hand at the time, Lupin. If you are to do- [She sighs and lowers her voice.] If you are to do anything about finding a way out? You need to be well. I don't doubt you could do it thus injured, or far, far worse. But at the moment this is all I can do to help. Let me.

I'd rather you were well. Please.

...you don't know what I'm going to do or not going to do. [She was perceptive, uncannily so. It made him uncomfortable, made him waver.

Instinct said to bail, keep his distance, but his rational thinking knew that she'd just follow him anyway. He sighs--so much to think about!]

Fine, fine. I'll be good. For a while.

[fleurdesel]

True. [She's quiet a moment, digging a small hole into the snow between them. Just. Something for her to do with her hands since she's quit smoking. It's only when she blinks she realizes it could be a very tiny grave, and that pulls a rueful laugh out of her.]

I'd help all the same. You know that. Do you really believe you're the only one who cannot stand this? Were I able I'd find my own way out. I can't. All I can do is help those that can.

[She looks back over, relaxing a little at his acceptance. A soft nod and she's less weighted. At least for the moment.]

You know, Dellie... [He pauses, watching her hands and listening to her words. The sentiment was very appreciated, but his skewed moral compass still gave him reason to waver.

He didn't like not being certain. It wasn't a good mentality, especially under these circumstances.]

I'm starting to think that it'll be the reverse, and that you'll be the death of me.
