Summary: The weather takes a turn for the worse as freezing rain comes down across the village. Don't slip and fall!
Rating: F for freezing

Rain begins falling early morning on the 22nd. By 9 AM, there's a good layer of ice as it continues to rain on and off throughout the next two days, sometimes drizzling, sometimes coming down hard for a few minutes. By the evening of the 23rd, it stops raining. Ice buildup is between one and two inches (2.54 cm to 5.08 cm), enough to put some strain on trees, break some branches, and even knock out electricity in some areas despite the lack of any visible powerlines.

[It didn't really take that long for Vash to head out the first day for his donut run. It was just raining after all. Being from the desert he still loves to walk outside in the rain. Spring shouldn't be too far away, it must just be too warm out to snow is all.

Too bad the desert boy doesn't understand the idea of being too cold to snow. So outside he walks, with just his collar pulled up, as he heads to the bakery.

By the time he makes it to the square and towards the bakery a think layer of ice has built up on his coat. And that spiky hair of his? It's even more spiky and stiff today from the ice that's started to coat around it.]

AH! What kind of weird experiment is this!? This rain is so co-AHHHH! [Opps, someone just found a nice slick spot. Down he goes.] EVERYTHING IS COVERED IN ICE!

[When it was on the evening of the 23rd, Chitose thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone needed some help. With the electricity gone, there was no way that she was able to see in the dark. Besides, it was kind of boring just sitting waiting for the electricity to come back on.]

[A little rain isn't a big deal. It sucks, but Silver isn't some weakling who runs for cover at a few drops.

This, however, isn't just a little rain, and it's cold. Silver hates the cold. Plus, it snuck up on him out of nowhere and that's just unfair.

So he's headed in the direction of the store, muttering curses under his breath, hoping he can get in and out with the stuff he needs in under five minutes so he can go back to Jeb's place and not have to deal with this.]

[You may have trouble leaving again. As blocking the door back out is a large man in a red coat. Vash is having trouble deciding if it's getting any better out and if he can risk trying to get home with the eggs in his hand.]

[Ginji's on his way to the smithy, arms filled with books on electricity that he's returning as well as a paper bag lunch. It takes him a while to notice the current form of precipitation is different from either snow or rain. His first thought is "hail", but this isn't like that either. Whatever it is coats the grass and the tree branches, making them look like glass.]

[It covers the ground, making it slick, treacherous, and absolutely killing any traction his boots would otherwise provide him with.]

[And so it is that Ginji's attempts at being prompt backfire. Within steps his legs inevitably fly out from under him and he goes slipping, sliding, and careening into the nearest object.]

[WHAM! Down he goes!.]

[The books, meanwhile, skate a few feet across the ice-coated square before coming to a stop.]

...Ow.

Hmm, I give that fall about an eight for presentation and the flying of books. [Don't mind another guy who won't admit he just picked himself off the ground. Vash leans down and picks up one of the books that just went flying.]

Might not be the best day for a trip to the library, your books are going to get wet.

[How's a girl supposed to see in the dark? It's not like she can magic infra-red goggles out of nowhere.

Which is why Rise's slowly feeling her way out in the darkness from her own apartment to the kitchen. It's so dark out that it's hard to see even indoors so she'll try not to bump into anyone else.

Keyword: try.]

Perhaps today was not the best day to try and hunt the first of the spring birds, for all that their happy chirping has been filling the air...at least until the rain started.

That wasn't too bad, though. Foot had long before scouted out different bushes and overhangs where she could crouch when the weather got wet and she'd been caught out. So that wasn't the problem.

The problem started when her reluctance to chance the rain kept her caught out in the weather once it turned to ice. It wasn't much long past that when the village roads, although no longer wet, were still horribly, horribly slick.

Even so, though, Foot knew she had to make her way home somehow; get someplace warm. Curl up next to Link with a plate of fish and a warm blanket and...

Her thought, of course, was to get it over with quickly, and rely on her claws to provide traction on the worst parts. That isn't what happens, though. As soon as she bolts out onto the road, her paws start to skitter and slide, and her claws, sharp as they are, afford little more than 'sticky spots' that only serve to send her into uncontrolled rolls and slides as she stumbles over herself.

Someone help the poor kitty that's just sliding on by?

Yugo was also outside, making his way to a place that at least has food or a familiar face after being stranded by the library when the rain hit. He's a blur of blue, jumping from meager shelter to meager shelter with his portals as he makes his way through town. While he's at least dressed for the weather this time, his clothes and hat are starting to become weigh him down has rain falls and turns to ice on his small person.

His focus, though intent on getting a mug of hot cocoa, isn't so singular that he misses the kitty. Foot's presence causes him to pause and, without second thought, he leaps toward her and catches her in his arms.

"Sorry," He said once he slides to a stop. "It's cold out. Let's get you inside."

[Okay so Rin has been making a habit of going to Seventh Heaven for his job, of course, but in the last few days (this) he's also gone down to John's barrier in the tunnels and beat on it knocking. The first day was just knocking and shouting, the second day saw him trying to rip it open (though curiously, when he tries to assume his demon form in the tunnels, it fails. He later looked up this is a result of the power dampening) and the 22nd is no exception, so there's wails of "open up you recluse bastard!" and other such things as he tries to get a grip on the barrier to rip through it like he did with Bon back home.

Well, it doesn't work. Or well, it does, but in a weird way. On the 22nd, a droid comes out past the barrier as he's pounding. Rin makes ready to fight it, but before he strikes it he sees it has a post-it note on its face. He goes to read it:

GO AWAY ME BUSY

Confused a moment, the droid then sucker punched him before retreating back behind the barrier before he could retaliate. There's a lot more shouting and screaming there for maybe a half out afterwards and then he tries to go home, the post it note shoved in his pocket and muttering darkly.

...the thing is, as he comes up the stairs out of the tunnel, it's already raining and icy and looks like some Ice Hell outside. he blinks, and slips a few times before there's a roar of frustration ahd he draws his Koma Sword. This causes him to assume his demon form. He spews blue flames in all directions the rest of his way back, which not only melts the ice below his feet and illuminates the general area, but it also straight up causes the rain to start to evaporate before it gets too close to him.

He's willing to help people he comes across, or maybe you just take note of this bright light as he makes his way back]

Staring from behind one of the trees he was clearing of ice, Caius is watching carefully. Also holy hell blue flames he doesn't want to be anywhere near those. If it's causing water to evaporate before it even gets near him then eff he doesn't want to be anywhere near that, fur isn't a good defense against fire anyway.

He sort of wants to approach this guy despite the fire and crazy appearance because he would be pretty handy for clearing ice, but how do you go about getting the attention of a flaming demon...]

[Sailor Mercury is quick to act. As soon as she's aware of the storm, she can be seen wherever the ice is thickest, unblocking doorways and pathways, or relieving the burden of a too-heavy tree limb.

She extends her hands, silently, as though the gesture will push away the cold and snow... and the ice starts to melt, slowly, then quicker, dripping away into water.]

[Ginji happens to spot her as he makes his way - bruised now, but still in one piece - towards the smithy. He pauses for a moment, trying to figure out what it is that she's doing, before finally noticing that the ice in front of her is melting.]

That has to be a really useful ability.

Out and around

[It was a dumb idea to come out when there was this much ice all over the place but wow does it look pretty. Having never seen anything quite like this back home Caius really can't pass up the chance to go and look around a little.

During his walk a tree branch splinters from the weight of the ice and ends up clobbering the poor kid over the head... Ow. But that's cool, it's his own fault for being out like this and he just needs to be a little more careful. When a second comes down and scratches his arm up then screw it being his own fault the tree needs to pay.

With a roar and a flash of bright light he takes on his beast form and lands a kick on the tree to knock down any branches that were on the verge of falling from the ice. Quickly moving those branches aside and moving onto the next tree. It's probably not the best way to be cleaning up but he's not going to let another branch hit him anyone else out walking today.]

She witnesses you being beat, and beating up the tree.

[That poor boy was unlucky enough to have a branch fall on him. Better go help hi- HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED.]

House 2 -> House 49

[Shortly after waking after the cloud of love had lifted, Sheik had fled the house in order to avoid the repercussions of having been so close to Zelda, and for so rudely shoving off Link's affections. That wasn't his place, nor should it ever. But the storm cutting off the power to his house and the subsequent inability to cook or keep himself warm (since there is no fireplace or proper stove) finally drove him to head back home to 49.]

[So it's a quiet Sheikah that sulks back toward house 49 in the hopes he could be allowed to stay to wait out the storm. And so the evening finds him poking around the kitchen making a hot drink to warm up.]

[Zelda had been headed downstairs to get something herself. She looks subdued immediately once she sees Sheik, shuffling to the side of the room awkwardly. What should she say? It had been wrong of her to take advantage of him like that, to use her position... having her Sheikah in THAT sort of relationship with her... it was no wonder he had run away.]

I... heard that the weather is bad. Is the electricity out in your place?

[Link had been out practising with the warp songs again when it suddenly starting raining very painful and really cold rain. It's the Snow Realm all over again ;;

So there is one Bitty Link running through the village attempting to find cover and not slip on the ice. The latter is proving really difficult] Woa! [...face-planting into ice is as painful as it sounds, apparently. Oww...]

[After an uncomfortable talk with Sheik (still, though, it ended better than she had expected!), Zelda was out for a short walk. She spots Bitty Link slip sliding around and kneels down near him.]

Around Town 23rd

[It has finally stopped raining, and after having to body check the door of her home 5 or 6 times to get it open, then falling on her face and sliding a good half a dozen feet, Lym gets up and starts slipping around town. The ice is new and while its cold, she's going to at least try and have some fun with it, so you may see the flailing girl zip by too fast, crashing into something or sitting there looking indignant trying to get her bearings]

Frey noticed she was missing only a little too late.... so of course he's going out to find her. It was still cold out, and the ice was dangerous. She could slip and hurt herself!

Around Town // House 6 Later??

[Why is Zoro wandering around town at 11am, you ask? Well DON'T. He just is, ok.

His timing couldn't be any worse, though, with the way the weather's going. Nami should have mentioned something about it but he couldn't for the life of him remember if she had (she did). That damn woman. She seemed to be avoiding him lately but he couldn't be sure now that he was out of the house more often than not.

But he had far more pressing issues right now. How to get home without freezing or getting beaned to death by falling ice, for example. He'd started running for it when his clothes began to stick to him like horrible torture-filled icicle shells but that had been a quick way of getting nowhere and his limbs were getting heavy and he was maybe sort of kind of just a little bit lost.

[Yeah, well as you're out there stumbling around and lost - how did you get this far outside of town, man? Katara's just out there, using this rain as a bit of practice. Because really, pain is an excellent motivator, and she's trying to see just how many of these raindrops she can stop and contain and for how long, and it's a truly excellent distraction.

Don't mind the. large dome of stopped rain. She can probably be seen as a water outline in between, but she's concentrating rather hard and won't see you just yet, Zoro.]

[So at some point when the rain has stopped (a little) or maybe it hasn't and Katara's just concerned about the way it's creaking on the house (don't mess with the indoor heating man, she's spoiled now) Katara slips on her parka and heads out there to do what she does best - move some water around.

First it's two quick movements to part the ice leading up to their doorway - voila, the path is clear again.

Then she steps out, hood up, to quickly take care of their roof, since that much ice gathering on it can't be good for it.

Maybe she'll even have a chance to go and offer to do the same to their neighbors, or maybe one of her neighbors will spot her first? Who knows!]

[Elliot Nightray is an impatient boy, so when the electricity goes out, he decides to take it upon himself to go outside and get more firewood. (He wasn't going to bother waiting for his housemates—they would take way too long to get this done, as far as he was concerned.) While the door hasn't iced itself shut yet, it seems like it's starting to freeze judging by that crunch he hears when he forces the door open a little harder than necessary. There should be some wood out in the back still, but it might be wet. He frowns just thinking about it.

As he starts making his way around the side of the house, he pauses when he sees Katara. And he stares. He's never seen anyone do anything like that before.]

[Wow, okay, seriously wow it has been raining and cold for forever. When Norma looked out her window, curled up in her blankets and pillows, she saw ice clinging to trees and windows and...just about everything. Not only that, but it was still raining, and it was so cold out that she was sure all that rain would become even more ice in no time.

This wouldn't be so bad if the heat didn't die withing the first few hours.

Norma wails into her pillows, the holes it up next to the wood stove, complete with her blanket cocoon, pillows, and a few stuffed animals. Anything she can grab to stay warm. And so help anyone in the house with blonde hair telling her to move in any way. She is in no mood.

Eventually, Norma reaches out a hand from the warmth of her blanket cocoon, and writes sloppily, pen blotting in parts--]

SOS!

HOUSE 34 IN DESPERATE NEED OF ASSISTANCE! HEAT GONE, BLANKETS RUNNING LOW! WOMEN AND CHILD INVOLVED! OUTLOOK LOOKS BLEAK.

[It's too damn wet, too damn cold, and just. Messed up, okay. Melaka would go out and patrol but you know what with the rain unrelenting it looking miserable out and having food in the kitchen, she's decided to stay in. Maybe meet Azu. Maybe meet other people in the building. Definitely get into a little fight with Gates in the kitchen (so if you want to see her brawling with a demonic four armed spider monkey, now's your chance)

But the point is during the storm she's stuck in]

In the forest

[LIKE HELL HE'S GOING TO THE VILLAGE no he will be tending to his destroyed tree-home during the time of the worst of the storm and the days that follow. Housekeeping and all. For the most part it's fine, but even the inside of the hole has some frozen ice despite the usual warm bundle curled up inside. He's done the best he can to try and cover the hole with his (many) coats since it wasn't stopping, but it's not working too well.

And he's left without them. At least his scarves help some. Not. Chien's glad no one'd go looking for him in this weather, because he's fine. There were worse consequences with sleeping outside when the typhoons hit back home anyway, and he survived fine.

Besides, tending to the animals after that takes priority. So many left without homes! Possibly injured! Chien's going to find them all.]

[Well no one wants some dumb dog near the village anyway so nothing of value was lost. :|

If he's looking for animals does a bipedal wolf thing count? Caius is currently kicking a couple of trees out in the forest to knock down any branches that might be too heavy and end up falling down and smacking people like what happened to him. He was in the village but he ended up getting carried away and worked his way out into the forest.

So yeah, sup Chien, wolf thing kicking trees. What do.]

House 40

[ It's cold. It's really, really damn cold, and Yuri's been stuck in this damn house the whole time and even though she'd been planning to drag everyone down into the tunnels, she wasn't crazy enough to take a bunch of living people down there in this weather so she was stuck.

Which naturally meant that even though the house was fairly quiet for the moment, that wouldn't last long after being stuck in this damn house for almost an entire day now had finally gotten to Yuri. To vent her frustrations? One of those ear-shattering bellows that she was so capable of. ]

STOP BEING SO COOOOOLD YOU STUPID WEATHER!!

[ The neighbors could probably, definitely hear the shouting, and anyone inside the house was pretty much doomed to have to hear her yelling at full volume.

And then not two seconds later, the power cut out. Yuri turned around and then ran to her bedroom door, peeking her head out to yell again, though nowhere near as loudly. ]

..Not my fault!

[Being as smart as he is, Naoi actually put a small portable heater in his room and even though it's not completely warm and toasty in his room, he's comfortable. At least, until Yuri starts yelling from her room. That. Is annoying.

So he yells back just as loudly, not caring if he's bothering the neighbors or anyone else.]

Hello, Luceti. In light of our current weather, I would just like to let everyone know that we have blankets, candles, flashlights and other supplies available at the clinic. Should you be without heat and power, we also have some rooms available for overnight stay.

Additionally, if anyone has suffered severe bruising, broken bones, a concussion or frostbite and cannot feasibly reach the clinic, please let me know.

Completely undaunted by the hard pellets of frozen rain beating down on her body, a little red bird can be seen using the village as her personal skating rink. Coasting around on the ice, sliding off roofs to flip into easy Glides, and turning rapid three-sixties by digging in her claws...

... She probably stands out, to say the least. But hey! She's having fun. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Maybe she's tapping a little too loudly on your roof, though. Or maybe her wild whoops are getting on peoples' nerves? Either way, feel free to call her out!
