Who: Everyone. New Feathers! Old Feathers...?
What: New Feather welcome party.
When: 18th, 6 pm onwards.
Where: Welcome Centre.
Summary: This is a party. There's food and games (if you like) but the idea behind it is basically to mingle mingle mingle. Maybe make a new friend/enemy/frenemy or two?
Rating: G-PG 13 at most? There might be kids in these things, man.

The all-day rain outside makes the entire atmosphere a little drippy, a little wet, a little miserable. But rain or not, the party must go on! Or at least, so the saying goes.

It's a cosy little setup-- food, warm drinks, tables and chairs to lounge around in. So come on in, dry yourself off, have some fun. Why the hell not? The weather outside is frightful.

[Like Rapunzel, Ariel stares wide-eyed at first. She's never seen anything like that before either, though she doesn't find it strange. Her best friend is a fish and all.

So, she'll come right on over with a big smile of her own, and she waves once she's in her sights. Hello!]

[Oh... another human with lovely hair. Fluttershy shifts awkwardly from hoof to hoof ~~to hoof to hoof~~ before lifting her head (shyly) and offering a smile in return.]

H-hello... are you new here, too...?

[She's used to said animals talking, too, so there's no surprise on her face when she hears the pony talk. Instead, she sits to be somewhat more level with her, wraps her arms around her legs, and nods. It's easier than trying to explain that she's been here for a couple of months now. She's still technically new and all.]

[...Eh? Not very talkative? This is a first for the humans she's met... o-oh no, does that mean she'll have to... talk more?

Are you, um... are you shy? I think I'm a little shy, too... so I understand.

[Shy? Ariel tilts her head, before she shrugs and shakes her head. She can be shy! But she's more social than anything.

But it's... kind of adorable that the pony is shy. She holds out her hand, hoping to give her hoof a shake, or just to give it a firm hold. She understands anyway, despite not being the same!]

[Fluttershy blinks down for a moment, then offers her hoof out in response. This is unusual, yes, but not unheard of. She's still not talking, though... should she be worried...]

Is it... that, ah... you can't...

[OH GOODNESS that's too rude, she can't possibly ask something like that.]

[She takes that hoof with both hands and gives it a gentle shake, and a slow nod, as if she were bowing her head in courtesy. But with the pony's stammering... Ariel can tell what she's getting at.

She nods again, this time faster and more affirming, and she taps her throat with a shake of her head. Yes, this is why she's being so quiet. Yes, this means you probably have to do a bit of talking. BUT SHE WILL TRY.]

[....Oh.

Oh dear.

SHE HAS NEVER FACED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. Conversation is... not her strong suit. At all. What to do, what to do... ah... she fidgets awkwardly, shuffling from foot to foot. Surely she can think of something to... um...

...ah!]

S-so how long have you been here...?

[Numbers! Numbers are good when you cannot talk. Right? That's what fingers are for. And humans have fingers.]

[Ah! Ariel can answer this. Her smile brightens at that realization, though she knows she'll have to improvise just a bit.

She thinks for a second, made entirely obvious by how she presses her lips together and glances up at the ceiling, then holds up two fingers, and a flashcard that says "months". Just in case she can't read it, Ariel mouths the word, too.

Once she gets that out of the way, she shuffles through her cards before she holds up another one.]

"And you?"

[Oh, what a clever idea! Fluttershy blinks, then brightens a little, nodding her head in silent agreement. Those are very helpful indeed.]

Me? I've only just arrived... I think it was a couple of weeks ago.

[A couple of weeks... So she really is very new here. And it's a relief to see that she can read; she's already run into two people who can't, and it can be difficult to communicate with them.

She looks through her flashcards, making a face at the fact that there's not really a good one for this. But she does hold one up, a sheepish smile on her face as she knows it's a bit of an odd question.]

"Are you having fun?" [Though she'd like to say "How have you been doing here so far?"]

[...Ha... there's a loaded question... Fluttershy glances around, feeling somewhat awkward and uncertain, then ducks her head.]

W-well... I suppose it's been nice to see another world, but... I don't know. I'm not really the adventurous type, and I miss my friends... I'm ready to go home.

[But she knows she can't, so it's hard.]

[... Ah. And she can't. It's always sad, seeing people like this...

Ariel gives a sympathetic smile, and she reaches out to brush her hand through Fluttershy's mane. She can relate; it's been wonderful here, so wonderful... but she's ready to go home, too. To see Eric, and her friends, and even her father.

But she can't.]

[The touch on her mane catches Fluttershy off guard, and she shakes off her fear as best as she can and tries to smile again. She really should stop worrying people for no reason!]

I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go on like that! It's really- ... it's fine, I'm sure everything will be okay again soon...

[Ariel pulled her hand back at the slight jump, but she just widens her smile when Fluttershy starts to speak. If you're not feeling it, then it's best to speak positive and smile. Even one smile can make a difference!

But with her saying that, Ariel nods, then flips open her notebook again to write.]

You're right. Even if things aren't so okay around here, we still have plenty of people who care about us.

[Fluttershy peers at the notebook, thinks carefully for a moment, then returns the smile, nodding hesitantly.]

Yes... you really can't underestimate the power of friendship. It's magic, after all.

[Twilight had taught her that, for sure.]

[Ariel nods at that, her smile widening to a grin. Friendship really is magic! It's one of the things that helped change her home the most, after all.

She'll reach out again, though she'll see if Fluttershy meets her hands with her hoof. Maybe they can be friends!]

[This time, Fluttershy doesn't let herself hesitate; she lifts her hoof to touch it against Ariel's hands.]

It's nice to meet you... I'm Fluttershy.
