Who: Everyone. New Feathers! Old Feathers...?
What: New Feather welcome party.
When: 18th, 6 pm onwards.
Where: Welcome Centre.
Summary: This is a party. There's food and games (if you like) but the idea behind it is basically to mingle mingle mingle. Maybe make a new friend/enemy/frenemy or two?
Rating: G-PG 13 at most? There might be kids in these things, man.

The all-day rain outside makes the entire atmosphere a little drippy, a little wet, a little miserable. But rain or not, the party must go on! Or at least, so the saying goes.

It's a cosy little setup-- food, warm drinks, tables and chairs to lounge around in. So come on in, dry yourself off, have some fun. Why the hell not? The weather outside is frightful.

I don't have magic, but I can use my Groosenator!

[He realizes that Rydia probably doesn't know what that is. Also he would have to rebuild one.]

Er uh, it's a catapult that shoots giant bombs.

[She raises her eyebrows at that.]

Really? That sounds as though it could be useful in town defense...though I don't think you're going to find a catapult in the smithy. You might be able to get it as a favor from the Malnosso, though.

Ha! I'm sure I could rebuild it, as long as we got the materials here.

[Although wait, there might not be bombs...]

Wait though... A favor from the Malnosso? I thought those were the bad guys.

[Except it's more complicated than that. Rydia sighs, raking a hand through her hair.]

We have no love for them, believe me, but sometimes we can get favors from them, usually through doing one of their missions. Those can last anywhere from a few days to a month or so. I'd just returned from one myself, when you first met me.

[Man this is complicated. Groose is somewhat confused.]

Huh... Okay. Man, this is kinda imploding my mind here.

Wait, I talked to one of the Links about this. Apparently you gotta fight for them or something?

[She nods.]

Sometimes they draft people to fight their battles outside the barrier, against a group called the Third Party. They would just as soon as destroy us all anyway; their invasion a few years ago proved that. During those drafts, we don't get a choice about going or staying, but those missions I talked about are different. They're entirely voluntary and people who chose them can get something in return.

[Okay. Groose is attempting to process all this. He heard about the Third Party from Ocarina Link and fighting them, but this is still so complicated.]

Huh... Okay... So uh, what do you even do in these missions?

Well, it varies; there's combat observation, reconnaissance, guard duty, medical assistance, research, labor, guerilla warfare, and so on. The one I did involved the latter, ambushing Third Party camps in the mountains.

[Okay so most of that goes over Groose's head. All he hears is "stupid war stuff."]

Huh, okay. That sounds pretty easy! I didn't train to be a knight for nothin', you know.

A knight, huh? That training will definitely help you here.

Have you seen the Battle Dome yet?

Battle Dome? Nope, never heard of it. But I wish I had!

[Needless to say, he's pretty intrigued. He really would like to hone his skills and perhaps become that hero Luceti needs.]

[She nods encouragingly.]

It's not far from here! Just go south and it's that circular building. You can't miss it. I go there all the time, since you can create just about any scenario you want. You can fight things from home or try somewhere completely different....

[Oh yeah, this sounds like Groose's kind of thing. His eyes light up and he looks like a kid in a candy store.]

That sounds... AMAZING!

I can't go back to the Academy from here, but this sounds even better! Yeah, I'll be the best hero in no time!

[How can she not grin at such enthusiasm?]

It can be pretty intense, but I agree; it's best not to become rusty in this place. And if you want people to fight alongside you during one of those scenarios, I'm sure you'll find plenty willing to join you.

Yeah, I won't let myself get rusty at all!

Hey, can you do any fighting of your own or anything?

[She's quick to nod.]

I can use a whip, and I have my magic. Most of those spells are the elemental sort.

Magic, hm?

[He's not too familiar with magic, but he knows that it exists. ~~He also pictures Rydia's whip doing nasty things I mean~~]

I can't do any magic myself, so that's pretty interesting.

[He's trying really hard not to flirt with her okay.]

I can demonstrate sometime, or if we're ever drafted together, you'll definitely see it then. But it is possible to learn some magic here, if that really catches your interest.

[Groose is intrigued now. Magic wasn't too familiar to him; he had only witnessed strains of it from Zelda and Link. But if he could master it...]

Y-yeah! I'd love to learn it!

[She nods encouragingly.]

The way you do it is by contacting the local spirits. There are several, each of a different element or area of expertise. Some are friendlier than others, but most can be persuaded to teach.

Spirits? Huh?

[Why was this place so complicated...]

Are those like the goddesses or somethin'?

I think of them more as forces of nature. You can't see them, but they'll make their presence known when they are around. They communicate through feelings and images.

[Oh. This is going to confuse Groose even more. Please excuse him while he attempts to figure this out.]

Man that... I can't even figure that out.

So they're like... invisible but you somehow know they're there?

[Nodnod.]

Oh, yes. They'll make themselves known. If you want to stop by later, I'll show you what I mean.

[Groose smiles enthusiastically again. Going to this hot chick's house? Aw yes. Score times one thousand. The idea that she's married seems to be gone from his mind for this minute in time.]

Aw yeah! I totally want to come by!

[Now he completely forgot about the invisible spirit people things. Good job.]
