Who: Everyone. New Feathers! Old Feathers...?
What: New Feather welcome party.
When: 18th, 6 pm onwards.
Where: Welcome Centre.
Summary: This is a party. There's food and games (if you like) but the idea behind it is basically to mingle mingle mingle. Maybe make a new friend/enemy/frenemy or two?
Rating: G-PG 13 at most? There might be kids in these things, man.
The all-day rain outside makes the entire atmosphere a little drippy, a little wet, a little miserable. But rain or not, the party must go on! Or at least, so the saying goes.
It's a cosy little setup-- food, warm drinks, tables and chairs to lounge around in. So come on in, dry yourself off, have some fun. Why the hell not? The weather outside is frightful.

[Because truly? It was. Adele was entirely sincere in the compliment, a gown that would flatter the masculine and rather tall figure that this woman has? Would have to be well tailored. And this one was quite lovely and helped the woman wearing it, in turn, look lovely. Amelie would be envious.]
no subject
[She ends the twirl with a curtsey.]
It's so nice to have another woman to discuss these things with.
no subject
[Adele went over her mental checklist, one that Amelie forced her to memorize. Draping? Good, Lines? Good. Texture? Good. Color? Excellent.] Though I must admit. Now I feel somewhat underdressed.
[As she'd just come from her two hour shift at the clinic? Slacks and a button down. Tailored for her by her sister, yes, but nowhere near as fine as this woman's gown.]

[Grell takes no refusals and grabs Adele's wrist lightly, to try and drag her off toward the closest bathroom.]

Honestly, a woman should always have pride in her appearance and make an appearance worth being proud of. Hold this.
[She thrusts the comb into Adele's hands and without asking permission starts brushing her hair back and up.]
no subject
I never really have the time to do more than wash my face or comb my hair back.
[The comb is taken and held, and she blinks at the hair brushing. And remains still. Again, habit. A long unused one but, she's as accommodating as she can be.]
no subject
Then you should make time. Perhaps you don't care about such things, but a first impression is the hardest to break.
no subject
Of that, I've no doubt. I simply...have not cared much of what those I meet think of me as a woman. I am a surgeon first and foremost. My skill in that field is what I find to be most important.
no subject
...It doesn't have to be one or the other, you know. Simply because you are beautiful doesn't mean you are untalented, and just because you are talented doesn't mean you have to hide your beauty.
[She finishes pinning the hair in place and reaches for the comb.]
no subject
I've six older sisters that are all considered beautiful, and all of them talented. I...just have not thought of myself as such, or had cause to, for years. Since the divorce, really.
[That had somewhat driven it home. Irving was kind, but Irving was far from honest. He'd never take his word on it; and he was something of a promiscuous individual. Her appearance had not been what one him over. Even here, Jack called her lovely, Tony had found her attractive because of the shift, Rett admired her medical skill; on her own? There was no reason to feel lovely. She was, to her mind, middling at best. Even when she put the time into looking better. With work as it was, why bother with the time?]

[Grell wets the handle of the comb under the tap and starts curling the strands left loose around it, making a soft wave in them.]
It's all about the attitude, love. Look at yourself.
[She reaches forward with a gloved hand, taking Adele's chin in her hand to make her look straight into the mirror. Behind her, Grell stands, hovering just over her right shoulder. From this angle, when she talks, Adele might notice her sharklike teeth.]
I don't flatter people unless I need something from them. I won't lie about it, it's simply my time is precious and I'm not about to waste it on people unworthy. I'm not your sister. Do you think I'd leave a party full of handsome men for someone who wasn't worth it?
no subject
She blinks a bit and looks to Grell's reflection in the mirror, a little puzzled by the teeth. Perhaps she should be concerned but. Talking ponies. Best friend was a Jedi. Beast, Ariel, Rapunzel. There were stranger things here.]
Truly? No. [Apparently she was worth someone's time, and with Grell as blunt as she was? Adele could not help but believe her.] Thank you. For sparing some of your time for me, Madame. I do appreciate it.
no subject
Aaaaaa~aaaaaah! Honestly, the women here. I'm finally somewhere that I can actually talk to you lot and most of you refuse to even act remotely girlish. Do you know how disappointing that is? I work with men all day long - not that I'm complaining mind you, they are ever so handsome - but it's so hard to get them to understand the small things, you know?
[Yup, now it's meaningless girly talk, Adele. Suffer...]
A flower in one's hair, even a ribbon, can freshen up an outfit without sacrificing mobility at all! It's almost as if women here want to be seen as men. It's so frustrating!
[The last curl in place, Grell tosses the comb into her bag and pulls one of the red flowers from her hair, setting it just under Adele's bun and a little to the left.]
There, now even with those clothes, you at least look a little more presentable.
[She pulls a compact from the purse and flips it open so Adele can see the back of her hairstyle in the mirror.]

If I promise to set aside time for a 'girls night out' or a 'girls night in' for proper girly and feminine behavior, would that make you feel better? I do not think there is a proper salon in the village which...is something of a surprise, now that I think on it. I suppose the Malnosso have no use for hairdressers, which is such a shame. There is a girl that arrived this cycle that would be in dire need of their help.
[Girl talk? She can do girl talk.]
I may be off but. Seventy yards of hair. Seventy! It took me the better part of an hour to braid it for her.
[She blinks at the compact and tilts her head, smiling at the splash of crimson amongst the gold. Not her usual color by any means but truly? She liked it.]
Tonight, should the weather improve, I will have to take some time in the clothing store to find a red dress to match the flower. Thank you again, Madame.
no subject
Talk of a salon. Manicures. No. Hair? What was it... The fountain, yes. Something about the fountain and a woman with dark hair. No, someone else? HNNNGH. She snaps the compact closed suddenly, frustrated by this constant inability to remember things. The mention of seventy yards of hair catches her attention though.]
...Dear Father in Heaven, what has that child done up to now? Good of you to help her, though, and if I'm here to help, I may as well help all the way.
Sizes. Now.
no subject
I honestly have no idea, since apparently she never learned how to braid her own hair. How do you have that much, and never learn? [She sighs and shakes her head.]
Sizes? Sizes. Generic brand sizes an extra small in the bust, a medium for my hips, and a six and a half narrow for my shoes? [The disparity in her figure is why most of her clothing ended up tailored for her.]
no subject
[Grell eyes Adele for a moment and then points to the cosmetics on the table.]
Do your eyes while I'm out. I shan't be long.
[Then she turns and leaves in a flurry of black, red and ruffles out the door.]
no subject
[Once again, before she can formulate a reply, Grell is gone. It was somewhat amazing how quickly that woman could move if she wanted to. But as she was being helped, and not entirely out of her depth, Adele does as she's told and finds a modest shade to start shading in her eyelids. Powder, liner a bit of time blending as she waits for Grell to return with...whatever it was she was going to find.]
no subject
In her arms are a variety of things - a skirt, a simple tight fitting black top with a red flower accent above the left breast, a ruffled shrug in the same fabric as the skirt, a red gem belt, a simple red choker with a small cameo hanging from the center, dark sheer tights and red heels. She hands these all over to Adele and points to the stall.]
Change.
no subject
You have excellent taste, and a very keen eye Madame.
no subject
Well, of course.
[She steps away from the counter with an over-exaggerated flourish.]
I've had hundreds of years to study fashion, darling.
no subject
[Hundreds of years. That...gives her pause for a moment, but she puts it aside for now. Ageless, immortal? She finds it more fascinating than frightening, whatever the cause. A few steps further and she's at the mirror, adjusting the centering of the choker and...she looks lovely. Appropriately dressed for this sort of function. Thirty years and all her sisters did less than one determined stranger had in less than fifteen minutes.]
