Who: Everyone. New Feathers! Old Feathers...?
What: New Feather welcome party.
When: 18th, 6 pm onwards.
Where: Welcome Centre.
Summary: This is a party. There's food and games (if you like) but the idea behind it is basically to mingle mingle mingle. Maybe make a new friend/enemy/frenemy or two?
Rating: G-PG 13 at most? There might be kids in these things, man.

The all-day rain outside makes the entire atmosphere a little drippy, a little wet, a little miserable. But rain or not, the party must go on! Or at least, so the saying goes.

It's a cosy little setup-- food, warm drinks, tables and chairs to lounge around in. So come on in, dry yourself off, have some fun. Why the hell not? The weather outside is frightful.

[Rapunzel trots right after her. The air outside is chilly, but that doesn't matter! Pascal can have a snack and she can admire the garden. Two birds with one stone.]

Thank you, Rydia. I hadn't even thought of coming here before. [She sets down Pascal in the flower bed.]

[Rydia watches Pascal for a moment, then smiles back at Rapunzel.]

You're welcome. I enjoy coming here, even when it's like this. We'll get nicer days soon, I'm sure.

[She'll wrap her arms around herself.]

Did you plant this garden yourself?

Oh, no--not all of it, anyway. See those blue morning glories? I planted those, but the rest was all done by various people here. It's a place where we can plant something that reminds us of a loved one. You can do that, too, if you want.

[Plant something in memory of someone? That...sounds very nice. She should want to plant something for her mother. But she thinks of Eugene first.

At least it's dark and Rydia won't be able to see Rapunzel's blush so well.]

That's a wonderful idea. Who did you plant yours for?

[Rydia smiles fondly.]

My mother. She died a long time ago, but I know she'd love a place like this. We used to have a flower garden, back home. Those flowers were her favorite.

What was she like? Your mother, I mean.

[Rydia stares off, lost in thought.]

She was gentle, but strong. She was the one who protected the village; our people are summoners, and she could summon Mist Dragon, for whom our town is named. We didn't get visitors often at all, but if they seemed suspicious, she was the front line, the one to turn them back. One day, I was going to take her place. I just didn't expect it to be so soon....

[She responds quietly:]

She sounds like an amazing woman.

[She wonders...about her own mother. A lot. A lot a lot.]

[Not wanting to get lost in her own nostalgia, Rydia's happy to change the subject.]

What about yours?

Mine? Oh, well, she's...

[A small sigh.] She's very strong. And she's always looked out for me and kept me safe. She taught me a lot of things, too, like baking, how to read and write...

[And she doesn't quite feel like mentioning all the negative things that have only recently come to light.]

Did she have your hair, too?

[Rydia automatically thought so before, suspecting that part of the reason for that protectiveness was a heritage thing, as with the summoners.]

[Rapunzel shakes her head.]

I must have gotten it from my father...but I never knew him. [And was never allowed to ask about him, either.] My mother had beautiful dark hair, though.

[Rydia glances to Pascal for a moment before turning her gaze back to Rapunzel.]

Well, you can always leave something for them both if you like. I didn't know my father either -he died before I was born- but...I like to think the morning glories are for him, too.

[Leave something for them...what could she leave for someone she didn't even know? And did she even know her mother?

...Oh, these questions. She can't let the thought get her down.]

I'll keep that in mind. Thank you, Rydia. I've never had a garden before, so...maybe I'll try to grow one of my own, too.

[She nods encouragingly.]

If you need any help, just ask. I'm getting back into it myself.

I'll be sure to. I don't really even know where to start. I've only grown flowers in pots back home.

Do you have any favorites?

[She does. But it sounds a little silly to say...]

Well...sunflowers. But I've never actually seen them. That's probably pretty strange, isn't it? My mother told me about them once, and the way the grow so tall and follow the sun...they sound amazing.

[She smiles, somehow not too surprised at the choice.]

They do. We'll just have to make sure you see them, after all. I'm certain we can find seeds around here, and the library ought to have tips on how to help them along.

Would they? I'd really love to try growing some. They seem so bright and friendly.

[Yeah, she may have something in common with them.]

I'd be glad to help, whether you plant some here or not. It's just fun to help Luceti come to life again, you know?

[She nods, even if she doesn't.] Absolutely! It's always much more pleasant when it's springtime.
