[mistlegacy]

[Rydia's sipping juice in the kitchen, unusually mellow. She ought to be ranting about their memories being tampered with yet again...but it's not in her, not this time. Having something so important to her helped in more ways than she could articulate, even though those memories turned out to be false. She flips through her own sketchbook, glancing at the moments with Link that she had just rendered.]

[There's a knock at the door. It sounds very nearly tentative.]

Coming!

[Leaving the sketchbook open, Rydia sets her juice aside and heads over to the door and a brisk pace.]

Grune, hello!

[She smiles warmly, but that slips as she takes notice of her friend.]

Please, come in.

Thank you.

[Grune follows her. As she does, she looks everywhere, trying to take in as much as she can. House 9 had been so familiar to her--it had been just as much of a home as House 34 is. She's searching for that sense, but...it's gone too. It's just another place in the village now.]

[Rydia leads her to the sofa, sitting down and turning a bit to face the other.]

...do you need to talk, Grune? About what happened?

[It's a while before Grune joins her. Slowly, she looks around the room, just as she had the rest of the house. Only once she's seen everything does she sit.

When Rydia speaks, she looks at her for a long moment. She didn't meet her in--what was the name of the place? Was it in a desert? Or was it somewhere else?

No, she met Rydia right here in Luceti.]

...Rydia?

[Rydia nods and reaches out to take Grune's hands in hers.]

It's wearing off, isn't it? That other life....

[Grune curls her fingers around Rydia's. She doesn't hold on tightly, but neither does she seem ready to let go anytime soon.]

It didn't really happen, did it?

[She sighs.]

No, it didn't. But it was a nice dream. I may not have shared your memories of being with us, but it was still nice to have you as family.

[She looks down at their hands for a long moment. Then, she meets Rydia's eyes again.]

...Do you think we could still be a family? Even if it was a dream, it made me very happy to be together with all of you. ...I hope it made you happy, too.

[mistlegacy]

[Her expression softens and she's quick to nod.]

Yes, it did...and yes, I do. We don't have to be blood related or even from the same world to be family. All that I've been through there and here has shown me that. You're welcome here anytime, Grune. I know Cecil would agree.

[A small smile appears on her face.]

Thank you, Rydia. I'm glad you feel that way.

Are you feeling all right?

[She nods, freeing one hand only to stuck back a rogue strand of hair.]

I'm fine, really. I suppose I should rant about something like this happening again, but...for a week, it was really nice to think that Link was from home. Even though he's not, we still have that time together and I have some sketches from that, so it will always be with me.

[Some sketches--that's a good idea. When she gets home, she should draw as much as she can remember of the life she thought she had in Baron. That way, she won't forget.]

Did you know Link before you thought he was from your home?

Oh, yes. I've known him for a while. I think he's now one of my oldest friends here.

[She chuckles, something coming to mind.]

Did you know that he and Kain are pen pals? Thanks to that socializing project someone made, and me nudging him to give it a try.

[That gets her first real smile of the day. Kain did actually tell her before now, but, well...her memory.]

Oh, my, how lovely. They're both such nice boys, so I'm sure they'll be good friends soon.

I hope so. I know friendship isn't something you can force, but a little nudge can't hurt, can it? Especially if it's not something Kain would do on his own.

[She nods.]

I think that would be just fine. After all, everyone needs a little help every now and then.

I'm glad you think so.

[She tilts her head, curious.]

Now that I can remember what that missing day was for, I've wanted to ask...how did your trip with Cecil go?

Oh, it went very well.

[Even before she thought he was her son, talking about Cecil would have brought a smile to her face. After all, he's friends with both of them.]

I was able to help everyone, and we flew on a big ship. It was very exciting and so much fun!

[...Yeah, Grune is excellent at describing things.]

[It's a good thing Rydia can guess some of that easily.]

Oh, the Lunar Whale? I love that ship.

[It's the only one she can fly on her own, mostly because the crystals do all the work.]

It took some getting used to, but I still thought it was amazing. If only the Lunarians could have passed on how to make more like it....

[And now Grune actually knows who the Lunarians are! ...Sort of. As much as she knows anything, really.]
