[For just a beat, Grune is frozen, still looking at Fenimore. Then, the truest smile all day appears on her face.]

Thank you, Sophie. [She goes over to hug the little girl.]

Thank you, Fenimore. [She comes back to hug her friend.

..Yes, she actually believed you, Fenimore. Count yourself lucky.]

[Hugs are accepted by the little girl. They are a fact of life in this household, after all, and not a bad one at all.

Fenimore is almost too surprised to react to the hug at first -- wow, she didn't notice, awesome -- but she recovers in time.]

It's no big deal, really.

[lostinmyway]

Oh, no, it is.

[Her gaze goes back to the cake, and she smiles.] Knowing you have a family that loves you is very important.

[blessingone]

[Good! Then you won't see her face get somewhat red and look slightly down.]

Well, maybe that's important but it wasn't a big deal for me -- us to do that much so....

[Her voice trails off into a mumble. What is expressing feelings in words?]

But it was a big deal for me, so thank you. [She kisses the top of Fenimore's head, then steps back a little.]

We should find everybody so we can all have some cake together.

[.......She really doesn't want to, because the others aren't going to be so easy to fool. They are going to know exactly what happened here.

...But if Grune wants to have them here.... She rubs at the spot where Grune kissed her, turning a little redder.

Still half-mumbling:] Well, if they're around, I guess we can share....

[Grune nods, happy with that.]

Yes, that would be good. It's always important to share.

[She looks over at the other person in the room.] Right, Sophie?

[blessingone]

[Sophie knows this one. It is one of those things she needs to remember if tested on, right? With a nod: "Yeah."

Fenimore puts her face in her hands.]

You would put it like that, wouldn't you?

[Siiiiigh. She will have to prepare her heart for the looks she is certain she will get from Norma if she is around.]

[lostinmyway]

[That sends Grune right into puzzled mode.]

Why wouldn't I put it like that?

There's no reason why you wouldn't.

[Or, rather, "There's no reason why you wouldn't."]

Oh. All right.

[She spends a few more seconds being confused, then shakes it off. A smile appears on her face.]

Well then, I should go see where everyone is. I'm sure they'll be very happy to have your cake, just like me.

[blessingone]

Yeah. Probably. [But maybe not for the same reasons.]

[lostinmyway]

I'll be back soon!

[But first, she needs to give Fenimore one more hug, and Sophie a kiss on the top of her head.]

[Stop being so loveable, Grune. Stop it!

Fenimore will accept the hug and then settle back to await her likely teasing.]

[And off Grune goes to unwittingly inflict a good deal of misery on one of her best friends. Hooray!]
