What: The Cultural Fair
When: April 25th-26th, though the earlier set-up days (22nd, 23rd, and keeping everything dry on the 24th) are also encouraged to help get a feel for it
Where: All around the town square

Note: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier. Work was probably started for it on the 22nd-23rd for labor purposes, sheltering things from the weather on the 24th, and the actual Fair is on the 25th-26th, so using any of those dates and figuring out where your characters are helping would be good. CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth.

I'll leave the descriptions up to you all as there probably isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about it. Think of it as something on a much smaller scale than the festival from a year ago, definitely, but how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. That said there are plenty of unique sights, so enjoy browsing! Thank you!

[Lovely wha-? Er, she'll pretend she didn't hear that, it's far too awkward and insincere sounding from a complete stranger despite her flustered blush at his words. Still she's curious about the game...and that curiosity has her taking another step closer.]

...How do you play?

SURPROSE

"Very simple! I put an object under one of the coconut husks. Then I move them about, eh?"

He selects a small stone and places it beneath one coconut. Then, slowly, he moves the coconuts around, mixing them up. The one with the stone is fairly easy to follow.

"And you guess which one the object is under! After I muck about with 'em, like so."

I APPROVE OF THE PROSE PUNS!

"Mmhm."

Sabriel nods thoughtfully as she watches the coconuts get shuffled about. It looked easy enough...too easy, in fact. Crossing her arms she quirks a brow as she lifts her gaze from the coconuts back up to the pirate.

"What's the catch?"

"No catch. I'm already taken, I fear. I'll just need some small item of yours to hide beneath."

Oh dear.

"And should I give you said small item of mine what are the chances of me getting it back by the end of the game?"

"I think it depends on how quick you are, really. I'd say.....two to one?"

[thebellthatbinds]

"Ah, so it's a gamble then."

That certainly makes things interesting...although she isn't quite fond of the idea of losing something of hers.

"It doesn't quite seem fair though, if you lose the item when you lose, what happens when you win?"

"Why you get it back, of course! You don't think I'm the dastardly type to try to make OFF with it, now do you?!"

"But I lose it if I pick the wrong coconut, isn't that right?"

[all7seas]

"This? Correct! Look, darling, see? You've already got the nub of it!"

"Sounds like you have more to gain in my playing than I do."

[all7seas]

"Look, lovely -- you can either play or you can talk it to death."

And he picked up two of the shells and pressed them over his ears.

"All I'm saying is it'd be nice for there to be something for me to gain by playing if there's something for you to gain."

...And she's lecturing a pirate.

Good thing those coconut shells are so dense and husky and sound-dampening.

Oh very mature mister pirate. Fighting to stop herself from rolling her eyes she picks up the remaining coconut shell which just so happens to be the one with the small stone under it.

"The game's a little boring with only one option don't you think?"

"WHAT? HOW MANY OPTIONS DO YOU NEED?"

"...More than one."

She waves the coconut shell she's holding to emphasize her point.

[all7seas]

"STOP IT YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK ME COCONUT!"

"By waving it in the air?

Honestly just take the coconuts off of your ears and stop shouting."

[all7seas]

"WHAT?"

[thebellthatbinds]

"...You can't be serious."

Extending an arm Sabriel gives the pirate's sleeve a light tug to try and get him to lower the coconut shell from his ear.

[all7seas]

This time he is obedient and places the shells down on the box. "Hmmm? Are you quite ready to play now?"

"I was ready five minutes ago but I don't suppose you heard me."

With a little shrug she checks her pockets for something she could use that preferably she wouldn't feel too miffed about potentially losing...and comes up with a small wrapped butterscotch hard candy.

"...Would this work?"

Oh. OH. Butterscotch! Jack LOVES butterscotches! Has since he was a young boy.

He tries not to show TOO much interest.

"Aye. Should do, that. Hand it over, lass."
