Note: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier. Work was probably started for it on the 22nd-23rd for labor purposes, sheltering things from the weather on the 24th, and the actual Fair is on the 25th-26th, so using any of those dates and figuring out where your characters are helping would be good. CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth.

I'll leave the descriptions up to you all as there probably isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about it. Think of it as something on a much smaller scale than the festival from a year ago, definitely, but how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. That said there are plenty of unique sights, so enjoy browsing! Thank you!

And why do you want to know, eh? [He is still eyeing those antlers. Jack doesn't MEAN to come across as cagey as he is acting, for once.]

[It goes mostly unnoticed as she picks the shell off the table to look at its inside. The smooth white inside is not what she expects given the corse outside. And anyway, she's still too much in a good mood to really care.]

I've never seen a coconut before. [And she's curious.] What do you do with them?

You can do lots of things with 'em, love. You can eat them. Drink out of them. Fashion primitive undergarments from them.

[Aang's already peed in one. Really, they are the duct tape of the jungle.]

Primitive undergarments?

[She holds the coconut up higher, trying to picture it. And then quickly deciding she doesn't want to as her cheeks flush slightly pink in embarrassment.]

Using them as bowls makes the most sense.

You want to taste one, lass?

[Another glance at the empty shell.]

What's there to taste?

You need an unchopped one. Here. Hang on a tick.

[He rummages under the box before bringing out a whole one and setting it before her.]

[It should be noted, very belatedly given that this mun is an utter city slicker, that there isn't very much to the antlers. The velvet's been removed carefully, by someone who clearly knew what he was doing.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread...

She picks up the whole coconut, placing the shell half back on the table. Carefully, she shakes the fury brown ball. Then she taps it with a finger.

And gives Jack a questioning look. What now?]

First off, we need to spear it through the eye.

[She looks it over again. What eye?

But she can help with the spearing part. Placing the coconut back on the table, she pulls out her hunting knife from her bag, careful not to disturb the deer. She pulls it out of the sheath, glances at the bits of blood still on it, and wipes it on her pants.

Then she holds it up for Jack to see.] Can I use this?

[Important to know, in case she ever comes across coconuts in the wild.]

You could. You could. Though I'd prefer this.

[He removes his marlinspike, which is a bit nearer to the job of piercing the shell. He hands it to her.]

[The spike he hands her reminds her a little of Mags' awl and for a moment, she tries to remember if Jack ever mentioned whether or not he was from a seafaring place.

She remembers the strange Bel-jum and the honey badgers and even his claim of being a pirate. Something, perhaps, to ask him about someday.]

What do I do with it? [Asked as she places her knife on the table.] Just stab it in?

Stab it through the eye! [He corrects her very gently.] Inside? There's sweet milk to drink, so be cautious!

[She rotates the coconut around until she finds Jack's eyes. There are three of them, all on the top of the strange fruit.] These? Stab through these?

Aye! They're not the seeing-sorts of eyes, sweetheart. You don't have to worry about hurting it. [This joke is very gently delivered, really.]

[It's received with a frown. A frown and a very serious look. Was that supposed to be funny?] It's fruit.

[Not alive. Not capable of being hurt. But she stabs it carefully anyway, concerned with preserving the milk he mentioned.]

Aye. Fruit. Odd that they call it a nut, isn't it. Or possibly it is a fruity nut. I've never been that concerned with classifications of fruitish things, myself.

[She raps her knuckles on the outer layer of the fruit. It's hard. Not at all surprising that it's called a nut.

But she's too busy carefully removing the spike and wiping it clean with her shirt to comment. Katniss glances at him, curious.] Can I just drink the milk or does it have to be treated?

Treated? [He clears his throat.] I suppose, lass, if you're inclined to...to show it some kindness before you drink its innards...

[It takes her a moment. A moment in which, once again, she looks at him as if he's mad.]

I mean with chemicals. Iodine. Is it safe to drink?

[Still...not...understanding...OH. Safe!] Aye, lass! Coconuts are safe as churches! Best thing when you're not sure of your water supply.

[A nod. Okay. She'll trust you on this. If just because you really haven't steered her wrong yet.

So she takes a sip. And then makes a bit of a face. It's not what she expected.]

What's wrong? You look though you've drunk a ghost.

This doesn't taste like milk.

Hush! It's delicious! An' good for you! And lovely for cooking with! Tell me this: you ever have curry?
