Summary: It's that special time when the Malnosso collect all their recent experiments and apply them all at once to measure effectiveness. Although invaluable as research, it tends to leave the subjects looking just a bit mad.

So there is a mod post and it pretty much tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. This is a second log so people can change up their effects and try something new, jump into the event late, or just avoid the impending CAPTCHA on the first log.

[Ho! Every heroic, selfless bone in Knight!Mac’s body tingles at the sight of a man in the village who seems somewhat glum. Whether a dragon is laying waste to entire kingdoms or a single person is struggling under the weight of their personal burdens, he simply cannot stand idly.]

‘scuse me, sir… [The heavy visor of his helmet promptly snaps shut on him. He pushes it up with a rusty squeak, blue eyes peeking out. Even decked out in full armour as he is, at 4'8, he doesn't tend to fill most with confidence. :I] ...You okay?

[Billy blinks and lifts his head in surprise at the suit of armor talking to him. His first thought is, wow, he's short for a knight. But then again, he's also Teddy right now, and Teddy's pretty big compared to anyone, even when not hulked out.]

Oh, uh... yeah, I'm okay. Just this experiment kind of messing with me.

LOL, okay.

[Mac's brow furrows. The word 'experiment' seems somehow familiar, yet he can't quite place the meaning. He shrugs it off after a moment.]

...Oh.

[Well that was lame. He lapses into a thoughtful silence, rubbing at his itchy nose with the back of his gloved hand. Although it might seem more like he's grossly wiping snot without considering the fact that he was in someone's company.]

Uh, anythin' I can do t'help?

[He doesn't know what to suggest at the moment, but HE MUST BE USEFUL SOMEHOW.]

[failshifter]

Not unless you can magically make me turn back to normal. [He lifts his hands to wiggle his fingers - Teddy's fingers - and slumps over again.] This isn't actually my body at all, but I can't change myself back.

[And considering he's in the body of a shape shifter? It's downright unfair.]

M'jus' a knight, but... maybe there's some kind a' sorcerer 'round here who can change y'back.

[He glances aside, looking rueful.]

Heard a' frogs changin' back into princes with a kiss, but, um... yeah.

[Is he suggesting that they kiss? BECAUSE THAT IS SUPER FORWARD, BRO.

But no, Billy just smiles a little sheepishly.]

Pretty sure it doesn't work like that. Besides, Teddy'd probably get mad at me if I went around kissing people with his lips.

Uh... yeah.

[He clears his throat awkwardly, offering a simpering smile that does not linger.]

Well... m'sorry I couldn't do nothin'. I mean... [He heaves a sigh, looking to his dinky, sheathed sword.] M'supposed t'be helpin' everybody who needs it... it's been m'job for a long time. Guess I never thought there'd be somethin' I can't do. [He purses his lips, thinking hard.] But I ain't gonna give up yet; I'll see if I can find a sorcerer for ya or somethin'.

[failshifter]

[Wow, this guy's really intent on helping. The experiment, or just the way he is? With the way the village has been the last week, it's hard to tell.]

Trust me, a sorcerer isn't going to be able to fix this. [He's kind of already tried.] If you're a knight, aren't you already on some kind of quest?

[It's a curiosity as well as what he hopes is a subtle shift in topic. It would be hard to delve into why this is so painful for him with a stranger, after all.]

Nah. I mean, I usually would, but 'ts been pretty quiet, y'know?

[Maybe people have requested aid from taller, handsome, and more capable-looking knights - - he brushes aside the thought after a moment, wanting to give folks the benefit of the doubt.]

So m'jus' kind a' walkin' 'round seein' if there's anythin' I can do. Put a bird nest back in a tree... but that's about it so far.

Well... if you're really looking to help, you could walk me to the plaza? It's been kind of a rough week, and I don't want any trouble.

[It's a small offering, not worth much in the end considering he has super strength right now, but he knows the feeling of being shot down when all you want to do is help people. He can do this small thing.]

Uh... [He blinks blankly for a beat, eyebrows lifting.] Yeah, um, sure thing!

[Where others might have been insulted by the offer, the opportunity is something he much appreciates even if this fellow looks pretty capable of fending for himself.]

Guess y'never know when goblins might jump out an' try t'steal y'stuff, huh.

[And he means that.]

Hey, might come in handy. I've never fought a goblin before.

[He blinks, then adds hesitantly,]

Are... there goblins here? I don't remember reading about that, but you never know.

[Mac gazes skyward, reflecting upon the 'memories' implanted in his mind which are nothing short of false. Not that he's aware of it.]

Ain't run into 'em here yet, but you can never be too sure. Seen 'em in Moonbrooke and Dusk ... a couple made off with a lady's dog, jus' like that. No idea what they was thinkin' a' doin', but I was able t'stop 'em. They ain't big or super strong, but if they all dogpile ya, it can get kind a' nasty quick 'cause they take whatever they can get off ya, an'll try t'scratch and bite. But a good kick or punch or whack of a stick sends 'em packin', pretty much.

[...Wh... he'd been joking, but this guy actually sounds serious.

Well, crap.]

Th... there's monsters like that in your world? The one you're from? Or are Moonbrooke and Dusk somewhere else?

Yeah, those lil' guys're from mine.

[Of course, when this event passes, he'll be denying this is true. But it'll be a little while, yet.

He glances back Billy's way.]

... name's Mac, by the way. [He offers a clunky, metal gauntlet after a moment for a handshake.]

[failshifter]

Oh geez.

[Sounds like a fun world. Billy reaches out to grip his hand, giving him a surprisingly strong shake in return. He tries to be gentle, but Teddy's body... well, it's a lot stronger than he'd expected.]

I'm Billy. Nice to meet you.

[As long as it's not a bone-crushing grip, Mac doesn't mind; his father had told him how a good impression could be made of something so small as a firm handshake (a great thing when applying for a job, especially). Similarly, he too is careful as not to trap Billy's hand in what literally is an iron grip.]

Nice t'meetchya too, Billy. Really hope y'go back t'lookin' how y'should soon, an' things start lookin' up.

[Nope, not bone-crushing. Actually, between the super-strength and the armor they're pretty even in the grip department. Good thing, too.]

Yeah, me too. I didn't expect my first experiment to be like this. ...Guess it could be a lot worse, though.

I guess so. I mean, I don' really know how bad this experiment thing y'talkin' about gets.

[Well, for the time being, at least.

But yeah, pretty much with anythin', it could always be worse, heh. Least you ain't hurt... [He gives him a quick look of appraisal.] ...right?

[failshifter]

No, I'm not hurt. [Billy spreads his arms to show that yes, he is in fact in perfect condition. Just. Kind of out-of-body right now. And it's hurting his heart a bit, but not in any way that counts as an injury, either. He jerks his head in the direction of town, starting to walk.] You're on the right track to be a pretty good knight, though.

[He lets out a breathy, nervous little laugh at the compliment, happiness surging through him.]

Aw, shucks... y'really think so? Know I ain't tall, but... I wanna be the best knight I can be.

[failshifter]

"Size matters not." [Yeah he totally just went there.] What's most important is how tough you are, I think. Being small just makes you harder to catch!

[How cute.]

Yeah... [The more he considers it, the more he regains his sense of self-confidence.] Yeah, y'right. Know I ain't half bad at duckin' an' movin' around when trolls swing their clubs an' try t'smack ya silly...

[Dismissing the thought, he smiles appreciatively.]

Thanks, man. Y'know... y'sound like you can be a good wizard or somethin' 'cause they're smart an' know the right things t'say when somebody needs it.

[Okay, that? Makes Billy laugh. Not because he's wrong, of course - he's actually closer to the truth than he might ever know - but the idea of him being the wise character in any questing group is hilarious. He's no Gandalf or Dumbledore. He's- he's like- Pippin or Neville. Every now and then he'll do something badass but most of what he does is pretty damn clumsy.]

Don't give me any credit for that one- I'm just quoting someone a lot smarter than me.

Mac glances over when he hears what he thinks to be genuine laughter, his grin lingering. He is determined to give you credit, and damn you, you will stand there and like it. >BI]

[He breaks into a goodnatured chuckle after a moment's thought.] Hey, wasn't I the one who was supposed t'help you out?
