And I'm glad to be it. Awake. Whatever.

[ frowning. and shifting uncomfortably. ] C-could I trouble you for a glass of water?

[she gave her hand a small squeeze and stood, ducking around the curtain separating the Slayer's bed from the rest of the infirmary. And, sure enough, she's back a few minutes later with a cup. Setting it on the nearby table, she turned back to Buffy] Can you sit up?

Hmm. When it comes to sitting up, I seem to be batting about fifty-fifty.

[ she tries. once, twice, three times. it takes her a while but she's soon sitting at a slight angle, reaching for her water. ] What a sad sight I must make.

[she doesn't have to try alone. After the first attempt, Jilly steps forward to loop an arm behind her back and help her upright, before passing her the glass so she doesn't have to reach too far]

Not sad at all. In fact, I'd be going with happy.

[because she was alive. That was reason enough to be grateful]

Didn't dare tell Jack this -- he'd freak too much, I think -- but I'm not sure I've ever been so very soundly thrashed as this. This is a whole new level of losing.
