To the point. The General was aware that he and the cultists had a reputation. Most of what needed to be said was already known.

"You view death as freedom, then?"

"It is the only freedom this world offers."

"Why not seek freedom from the world itself? You know there are other worlds out there, the worlds we came from. Why not try to find them?"

"There is no escape from this world. Your captors and tormentors may succeed, for a time, in a temporary solution. But in the end, all return to this place once more, Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"That sounds mathematically unlikely. Were the path to this world so inexorable, it would be overrun with refugees from the multiverse. Perhaps there exists a solution you simply haven't discovered."

"We have sacrificed thousands of souls to this world. It is the only solution."

"Sacrificed to what end? How will our deaths bring you freedom?"

"It brings us all freedom. To become greater than the whole." Calm and measured, confident in his beliefs. The same words might have been spoken by an old man as the culmination of lifetimes of wisdom.

"Death is inevitable, but that doesn't mean that our lives enslave us. For all that we may suffer and despair, we also experience the joy and satisfaction that comes with the fullness of life. That is true freedom. Surely you see that."

"You cling to the notions of an old life. One that does not belong in this world."

"We do not belong in this world. Clearly this world has been cruel to you. Why do you simply accept that it is inescapable?"

"It cannot be spoken. Only understood."

"How might I understand it, then?"

"Embrace your inevitable death. There is nothing more to say beyond that. If you wish to do battle, then do so. My soldiers need commanded."
