Yep, you'd be right up Pepper's alley, then. I'm just saying--it could be a bonding moment. After the two of you dismantle the Malnosso organization.

[ ...but that begs the question: ] Would you ever wanna see her show up here, Tony? Considering -- y'know...

[ but at the same time, she knows it must be pretty ache-y to be apart. ]

[He doesn't answer right away. Would he want her here? Being put through this place could be one hell of an ordeal. He looks down at himself, battered, bleeding, broken. He thinks about the dream, the Shifter taking her form. She'd been used against him. But even that reminded him how much he missed her. And he'd only been back a month.

God, that's a tough question to answer.]

...Yes and no. How's that for an answer? Fortunately, that isn't really my call.

It's just about the only answer I could expect, I guess. I feel the same way about seeing Dawnie here again.

[ ... ] What do you think Pepper'd think of the place?

She'd...she might not mind the slow down. But she's like me. Used to going all the time. Hardly ever using the breaks.

[She kind of has to, to put up with him.]

Sounds like she could use using the break.

--Well, I won't argue with you on that. She does.

[This just might not be the place for it.]

The moment you get home? Take that woman on a vacation. Somewhere with a whole slew of spas.

[ she leans back. sore and sleepy but interested. ]

...She was in my dream.

[It's the first thing that comes to mind and it goes straight to his mouth. He wishes he hadn't said it. But thinking about Pepper, being happy with her...it inevitably dredged it up.]

Oh my -- [ god. ]

I'm so sorry. Tony. That can't have been a walk in the park.

[Hence why he's a little busted up at the moment.]

You're telling me. It wasn't her, thought. Things were different. Wrong. I just didn't realize it--until Rogue came in.

[herotypical]

She saved you?

[ frown. ] From Pepper. Fake-Pepper. Imitation Pepper.

[alloys]

[Killed her, honestly. But Tony didn't look. Even if it felt cowardly, he's glad he didn't.]

Yep. Stepped right up and gave me the business. It took me awhile to catch on, though. I hate to admit it, but the Shifter did their job pretty damn good.

I don't think I really did. Catch on, I mean. Not until the bullet...

[ but she'd been in a weird place because she'd been there before. and the very nature of that dream was asking her to pick and choose her reality.

Speaking from experience? It's probably a good thing you didn't wait around to make that distinction.

[He'd been in there awhile. And that's when the cultists attacked. And why the Shifter had looked so smug when they realized the game was up.]

I dunno. An explanation would've been nice. Jack tried to shoot the doctor first...

[ what doctor? who knows. buffy says this without dumping any other details. ] It was all a little heavy. And definitely not an experience I'm eager to repeat.

[Sorry, Buffy, but he does latch onto the 'doctor' bit.]

Wait, are you saying there were more than the three of you in your dream?

[herotypical]

When Jack shot him, the bullet just went straight through. Everyone else acted like it had never happened. Like Jack wasn't there. Like I was just...imagining him.

[ everyone else. apparently her dream was somewhat populated. ]

So he didn't shoot the Shifter. I guess they can only be one person.

[But can project others. That's not creepy at all. Maybe he should be glad there weren't more distracting voices in his dream.]
