There will be a thread for interacting with NPCs, but they may not all go up at once, so keep an eye out for them.

That and get myself stabbed. Protip: don't do that. [He rolls his eyes, looking more irritated than in pain at the moment. He feels stupid for getting caught off guard like that.]

[Dryly:] I'll keep it in mind.

[This is where we have what could be construed as an awkward pause.]

[He notices the pause, sharing it uncertainly for a moment, then speaks up again.]

Are... you sure you're okay? You don't have to stay if you're not- I mean, if you don't want to.

[He's not sure either way- far be it for him to demand her company, but she did approach him first.]

[Rogue's got this habit: She doesn't do things she doesn't want to do unless the world depends on it. It makes life a lot easier.]

Nah, that ain't it. It's just - I feel like I'm missin' some pieces here, but I don't normally make a point of askin' people personal questions.

[...Aha. So that's it. He can't really blame her; he'd basically come out of nowhere during the Hulk battle, and they'd gone their separate ways pretty soon after without talking much about it. Not that he'd wanted to explain himself at the time... not after lying to everyone.]

You... want to know about my powers?

Yeah.

[That was simple enough.]

[No explanations or excuses, it was nosy enough, what she was asking.]

Ya don't hafta get into it if ya don't want to, but you knew 'bout mine...

[She just sets it out for him. His call.]

No, it's okay. It's fair, and I shouldn't have lied.

[He fidgets a little, feeling awkward again- it's harder when you don't actually know the truth, but it wouldn't be right to just say nothing.]

I'm pretty sure I'm a mutant. My mom... kind of is.

["Kind of." Complications upon complications.]

[She, quite literally, waves off the "I shouldn't have lied." No, he shouldn't have. But it's not like she asked. Or that she goes around announcing her powers to the general public. This is one area where Rogue can see shades of gray in dishonesty.

But... "pretty sure?" "Kind of?"]

"Pretty sure?"

Well... not like I've been through a mutant detector or anything. But it's the only way I can think that would explain my powers.

Last time I checked, it wasn't a halfway thing.

[Mutant detector - Gawd, did they have those in his world? How terrifying.]

Ya said your mom's a mutant?

Yeah, that's...

[...God, how does he even get into this. Well, first step is the easiest, so-]

Does the name "Scarlet Witch" mean anything to you?

[Rogue's eyes go wide at that, and she loses some of her detachment.]

Wanda? Wanda's your mom?

[FIDGET. This is the first person he's met who actually recognized the name, and it doesn't really seem like a good thing.

Well, he should have expected that part, at least. Wanda's early history isn't exactly the most heroic.]

I think she is. I've never actually had a chance to ask. But I have her powers, and... I was told that she is.

[That is. A lot to process. She throws out any one of the first - more harmless - thoughts that come to her mind in response.]

No wonder ya were so surprised I was young.

[Wanda was her age.

He had her powers. That was... well, that explained a lot. Wanda could pretty much do whatever the heck she wanted, when she was in control. Billy seemed to have control just fine, but... eeesh.

Told that she was? Sounded complicated. Messy. Gawd, was life ever easy?]

Heh, yeah. I'm... definitely from a while into the future.

[Whew. It's the easiest answer, really- he can't even say how far into the future, because he knows he's a lot older than he ought to be for one of Wanda's children. The whole issue of transmigrated souls or whatever is still just barely within his grasp of understanding.]

[So. He never had a chance to ask her. Which. Told her a lot more he probably wanted her to know, really. That was a minefield, and one she'd rather not disturb at this point.

But this is bringing up an entirely different, erratic, and random line of thought and she can't help but pursue it a little bit, because it might be sick, but Gawd, wasn't everything right now?]

...so Magneto's your granddaddy? He still in the habit of causin' problems in your world?

[Oh god. His eyes widen at that question, and he purses his lips before responding. He hadn't really given much thought to his potential family relations beyond Wanda herself (and his own newfound twin, of course), so the idea of Magneto being his grandfather is... strange. Kind of cool, kind of terrifying. But there are good reasons for why he hasn't told people about all of this, and Magneto is one of them.]

...Actually? Scott Summers let him join the X-Men recently.

[Congratulations, Billy. You have the rare pleasure of seeing Rogue shocked.

All those implications were.

He'd said that mutants were protected on his world, which made her antsy enough, but that Scott was in charge, that Scott would do something like this was--

Compartmentalization was hard for her, though, and she lets out a long, low whistle, partly just to buy herself some time.]

[...sadly, it doesn't work too well. She's still stuck on this, completely diverted from her other thought.]

[He fully recognizes that this is kind of a Big Deal for her, so he'll try to expand on it a little.]

To be honest, I don't know all of the details, but from what I've heard, he's changed a lot. He's not a terrorist anymore, and he's actually trying to help mutants without hurting humans at the same time. Things were bad for a while, really bad, but... he must have done something to earn their trust.

Mags is some special kind of twisted.

[Just thinking about his little brainwash meteor project - or heck, what he did to your mom is all it takes for Rogue to be incapable of cutting him any slack based on his horrible experiences and "good intentions," let alone all the other things he's done. But that doesn't mean she won't acknowledge those horrible experiences as a factor, or that those good intentions exist. She's more than a little familiar with the various shades of moral gray.]

But he's a lot better ta have on your side when things go wrong, than against ya. The fact that he was willin' ta join, though...

[To be lead by someone else. To be lead by Scott and not the Professor...

Rogue shakes her head.]

I get the feelin' that tracin' your world's history would take a lot longer than the doctors would like me keepin' you up.

[And it's not that she's not interested. She is. But there wasn't much point in learning about a place she couldn't affect, besides satisfying her curiosity and... from what she could tell... causing her even more grief. It's a funny thought to think that she might be better off in the place where she's from right now. Life's strange.]

Tracing family history could probably keep us busy for hours, never mind the rest of the world... but thanks. I really don't have the energy to get into it right now.

[Which could be taken as "maybe someday" if she wants to try again, but he'll leave that up to her. He wouldn't blame her for wanting to leave it alone, that's for sure.

He pauses, grimacing slightly as he tries to settle back against the bed once more, before his expression turns serious.]

And thanks, um... for not freaking out at me. I know that kind of info won't be earning me any friends in the super hero community.

[She cracks a wry smile.]

I'm the last person ta hold family against ya, trust me.

[And, because talking about Mystique is something that she doesn't like to do, no matter who she's talking with, and because the question's on her tongue to ask - do you know who my mother is? - and the answer is terrifying either way, because if he does, then he knows, and if she doesn't, then she might have to explain... Rogue just shifts focus a little, recovering her equilibrium.]

Wanda ain't half bad. [Of course she's... still a terrorist and brainwashed into loving Magneto instead of wanting to kill him in Rogue's time. So she goes on in that vein.] She just got hit with troubles a lot harder an' bigger an' faster than the rest of us. Her power's somethin' else. You've got a pretty good handle on it, from what I can see.

[He could say something to that - the only thing that's keeping her family relations from being as screwed up as his own is the ambiguous nature of his existence, period - but that would be a can of worms he really can't deal with right now. And besides just saying "hey, I know this about you", it would feel too much like rubbing it in her face.

Either way, he smiles at her comments about Wanda. He really knows very little about her early years, so hearing someone say something good about it is... nice. Really nice. Doubly so because it comes hand in hand with a compliment.]

I had help with that. It really makes a big difference.

[Wanda had had "help" too - in the mental institution Magneto had put her in, and Rogue didn't recall that being too particularly helpful. Then again, she'd also had Xavier (another one of his secrets) and... Agatha Harkness.

Hmm.]

Help? Not with the Professor, I take it.

[Seeing as Billy didn't know he was a mutant.

...but then Rogue shook her head and leaned back a bit.]
