There will be a thread for interacting with NPCs, but they may not all go up at once, so keep an eye out for them.

"I heard about that," she frowned.

Aang killed me.

She paused and looked at Buffy, "Were you caught in one too?"

"Yep. Pretty much right after the General...moved on. Double whammy."

Frowning again, Katara streamed some water back into her hands. "Will you let me try something?"

Wary: "That depends on the something, Katara."

How to explain what she felt she knew instinctively? She searched for what could only be a strange combination of medical terminology and the healing that she was never fully trained in, but had felt her way through impossible things on more than one occasion.

"You said you were having bad dreams, right? I'm not sure that this will work, but it makes sense that what you experienced so close together would be as traumatic for the chi in your mind as it was for the rest of your muscles. Like - blunt force trauma to the mind and soul, but it's manifesting in your dreams, so there could be some physical connection. If I'm right and your chi is off its natural course in any way, I can work on soothing it enough for you to get some sleep."

Not... healing it. That would probably be too traumatic for her right now, it had been for Jet and Robin. Buffy didn't need to relive anything so close right now, and the mind and soul would have its own way of dealing with it. But soothing the chi for an uninterrupted sleep? That she could - maybe? probably. - do.

And her soul, she realized, had already taken enough of a beating back home. At least Katara was being honest with her -- explaining to her just what the knot was at the heart of the problem, even if neither of them cared to acknowledge the cause.

"...Alright. I'm game. Soothe away."

If she looked at all nervous, it was only because this healing mojo was still rather new to her.

Katara moved behind Buffy to take away that extra pillow now. She helped ease the other woman back down so that if - when - she fell asleep, it would be more comfortable.

"It's all right," she said, as she placed water coated hands on Buffy's temples. "I've got you."

Although it was a little undignified -- having someone help her down -- some of the sting was neutralized by it being Katara. Buffy's wings settled gently down against the infirmary cot. There was, as always, the little twinge of discomfort until she found the perfect position.

"And don't I ever feel got," she quipped quietly, wide wide eyes still tracked on the girl.

Heh.

"Good."

She smiles a little wryly, "But you'll probably fall asleep faster if you close your eyes."

"...Fine. I'll try for real."

Her eyes fluttered shut. Her nose twitched. She tried to relax.

Concentrating on soothing and not healing required fine control with this much power at her disposal. It would be so easy to just snap the swollen chi tracks back into place, forcibly calm them once she located the problem. So Katara had to concentrate very carefully.

She knew that Buffy wasn't exactly relaxed just yet, and she didn't blame her, but she was confident this would work if she just found the right amount of power to exert. She started with barely bending and continued until the chi tracks in Buffy's mind lit up like glow worms in her mind and then just - held them. She envisioned her power like ice, like calm, soothing but not moving, enveloping the parts of her mind and life force which had been so traumatized.

She breathed out and it felt like a pocket of hair she'd been holding onto for hours. While her muscles didn't wholly unknot, they did relax. She swallowed; it hurt her throat.

"It's like mint ice cream for the soul," she murmured.

"That's a good thing, right?" Tempted as she was to increase the power she was expending here, Katara decided to leave it be. She'd never done this before, so if it was soothing - good. Right now, that was all she wanted.

"Very. It's a deliciously good thing. With chocolate chips."

Buffy drifted.

"Good."

Katara kept up the light healing pressure until she was well and certain Buffy had fallen asleep. Then, quietly glad that it appeared to have worked, she'd move on.
