All the details you need are here, so read up on it. This didn't get mentioned before, but you can tag the cultists instead of killing them. Details on this are on a previous draft post. Using the scanners are optional!

There will be a thread for interacting with NPCs, but they may not all go up at once, so keep an eye out for them.

Note: A log for the events in the village will go up on the 21st, in time for the hurricane and droid incursion.

[It takes her a second to put together what he's asked, but then:] I can't find the way out. Do you know where it is?

[Kain looks around uneasily, as the false Rydia in turn advances toward him.]

[Grune immediately steps between them and spreads her arms wide.]

You can't come any closer. I won't let you.

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain lifts his spear defensively, then hesitates. It's a trick, but... part of him can't seem to believe that.]

[When the soldier continues to advance, Grune begins casting; black and purple lights appear beneath her feet.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain is frozen in place, uncharacteristically indecisive about making any kind of action. He glances at what Grune seems to be doing... some kind of spell...?]

[Definitely some kind of spell. Just before the fake Rydia reaches them, the light around Grune flares and she calls out:] Bloody Howling.

[The enemy soldier is swallowed by a twisting dark orb. While this may be Grune's weakest spell, it's still quite powerful indeed.]

[Kain gasps on seeing it, but he knows that it's not really her... it's only a way to get rid of this enemy using this spell...]

[But, while the enemy is injured and falls back a little from the spell, the barrier remains entirely in place.

Grune isn't discouraged, though, but begins casting again. She will protect Kain, no matter what.]

[Kain is starting to have a bad feeling about this... What if they can never leave this false vision? All he can bring himself to do for the moment is take up a defensive stance, preparing to act if that spell doesn't work, if it only enrages the enemy...]

[And it doesn't work. While Grune is doing some clear damage to the enemy, the barrier remains as solid as ever.

At this point, "Rydia" seems to have had enough of being attacked by Grune, and she launches herself forward even as Grune begins another spell.]

[Though he's been hanging back because of who that enemy resembles... the moment that it goes after Grune, Kain can't just hang back and let it harm her. He leaps into action, to stab toward the enemy falsely wearing Rydia's image.]

[When Kain's spear slices into the soldier, it's only then that the barrier shows any sign of weakening. "Rydia" is only injured--but it's perhaps telling that when Grune casts her next spell on the soldier, their prison stays solid and strong.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain just catches that difference, and realizes that it must be linked to him... it trapped him here, after all. But he's not sure he can bear to stab at something resembling his wife. He'd only gone for it in the heat of the moment to help Grune. How to handle this!? He hesitates a moment.]

[But he IS a warrior, and one who would get a fierce lecture if he gives up. He has to try something. Kain takes note of the position, careful to see Grune's as well... then closes his eyes to charge at the enemy, aiming at it with an impaling blow.]

[The enemy blocks, but only just. "Rydia" makes an attempt to retaliate, but being already injured from Grune's spells and Kain's first blow, it's doubtful that she'll succeed.

Meanwhile, Grune has stepped back out of range and is in the process of casting yet another spell. She needs to do her best to help Kain right now.]

[Kain raises his spear to block that incoming blow from the enemy. It's clearly not really Rydia since it doesn't possess her skills, which... well, somewhat helps Kain's cause. He's still not fighting at his best here, but he knows he can't stop now. He goes into a jump next, leaping high above and targeting the fake Rydia below.]

[Just before he lands, Grune finishes casting her spell.]

Absolute.

[Spears of ice thrust through the ground, breaking "Rydia's" defences and leaving her open to Kain's incoming attack.]

[Down Kain plummets, aiming a well-targeted stab straight downward at the "Rydia".]

[The moment Kain's spear slices into "Rydia's" body, the barrier dissolves. Baron vanishes, leaving Grune and Kain standing on the battlefield with the body of a Third Party soldier at his feet.

As soon as she can, Grune actually rushes to Kain's side.]

Are you all right?

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain stares all around him, taking in the return of the battlefield, and the enemy, which only moments before had looked like Rydia...]

[He stands there a good while, absorbing this. It's hard to shake what just happened. But eventually he manages a nod.]

[Kain looks upset, and so naturally Grune will do what she thinks will cheer him up: give him a hug.]

I'm glad you're safe. Thank you for helping me.

[dragoon_pride]

[Ah... hugging? She's always one for the hugging... Kain is at least good about letting her do that. It was a far more difficult than usual battle. Even if he feels he should be the one thanking her...]

[Definitely always one for the hugging. She holds him for a little longer--and maybe even cuddles him a little--then lets go.]

There. Do you need a little rest now?

[Cuddling!?]

[Well, ok, that's not so bad, actually. Kain sighs and looks a bit calmer afterward.]

Thank you... but, no, I should keep going. The day isn't over yet.

[He still looks tired...but she's sure that he knows best.]
