[Kain looks around curiously. He raises his spear defensively and then stands perfectly still so the sound of armor clanking goes quiet and he can concentrate on trying to pick out the sound...]

[Pao-Lin slows her pace, too, glancing around. Slowly, cautiously, she wanders in the direction she thinks it's coming from.]

Hello? Is anybody there?

[The crying becomes muffled, as though being filtered through fabric. Pao-Lin frowns.]

We're here to help you...it's okay now, we'll get you to someplace safe...

[Kain continues along after her, feeling increasingly more wary by the moment. Something isn't right here, still, and he doesn't trust it... so he's becoming even more tensed and ready to fight a potential ambush.]

[After a couple more steps, Pao-Lin stops beside a dumpster.]

Hello? Is someone in here? We're from Luceti -- we're not going to hurt you.

[There's no answer for at least a minute. Pao-Lin's about ready to climb the thing itself to open the lid, but then someone answers, a woman.

"Is it...safe, now?"]

Yeah, it is. [Though she frowns as she says this. Pao-Lin turns to Kain.] At least, I think it is. [It'd be good to get a second opinion from Kain.]

[Kain, being... Kain, keeps his weapon up for a moment. He eyes the woman suspiciously at first, wanting to be certain it's no trick. Then he takes a moment to scan around the area. Nothing seems threatening around the immediate vicinity... so far so good.]

[Finally, he gives a nod, once he's sure that nothing is a danger in the situation.]

[That's a relief. Pao-Lin's long since had her fill of dealing with Third Party soldiers this draft.]

["S-something's wrong with my legs. They won't move."]

What do you mean?

[The woman's words are punctuated with soft noises from the baby.

"I don't k-know. One of the Third Party s-soldiers did something to them, I think. Maybe it's a magic or a...or a slow-acting poison."



Pao-Lin straightens up at this, frowning. She glances at Kain.]

Does the Third Party do that kind of thing? I haven't heard of anything like that before...

[That's... definitely a bad sign. Kain eyes the woman closely for a moment, then turns to Grune and shakes his head. He's not heard of such a thing either... After a moment he gets out something to write on.]

Unless they're trying something new this time...

[He wouldn't put it past them.]
