We started out with just four, but... things got complicated. Now our team's at seven.

...Things always get complicated. It's what things do.

[ she wants something to distract her from her pain, so: ] Tell me about them. Start with their names.

[Oh, uh. Names. ...Well, codenames are probably okay.]

Okay, well... we started out as a group of four- Iron Lad, who had a suit of armor that gave him the powers of Iron Man, Patriot, who's a super soldier like Captain America, Hulkling, a shapeshifter who could make himself look like Hulk, and I was Asgardian, using lightning like Thor. We were modeling ourselves after the original Avengers, so they called us the Young Avengers, and-

[And he's probably rambling about something she doesn't know much about, since she's not a total dork, so he backs up a bit.]

Um. But Iron Lad was a time traveler, so... he had to leave. At the same time, I changed my codename, and Stature and Hawkeye joined up- Stature can change her size, and Hawkeye's an amazing archer. Iron Lad left his armor behind when he left, and it became an automaton called the Vision. And then after a while we found a speedster - Hawkeye named him Speed. And that's the team.

W-wait. Back up. Iron Man. Like -- Tony? You're from Tony's world?

[selfhelp]

Not... exactly. I think there's a lot of similarities between his version of Earth and mine, but it's not the same. Continuity's way off, the dates don't match, and some of the original Avengers in my world aren't on his team yet. I don't really understand it, but it's definitely some kind of alternate universe.

[herotypical]

That must've been more than a little on the disappointing side.

[...Aha. Ha. Ha. No. She is so wrong and he can't even tell her; it's kind of unfair.]

Actually... we don't really get along on my world, so it's okay that he's different here.

[herotypical]

Hey. Our in-town Stark can be kinda tough to get along with in the first place.

[His smile is somewhat strained, but he doesn't comment other than a simple agreement:]

Can't argue with that. Anyway, I'm just glad we had a chance to meet under better circumstances.

[herotypical]

[ her voice is weak, but her snark is strong: ] Don't let him talk you into doing his laundry.

[He's a half-second away from saying "too late", but he'd rather not pass around the news that he's one step down from Tony Stark's nanny.]

I'll try to remember that for the future.

For now? I think it's...[ she slides back down onto the cot and covered a yawn. ] It's possibly time for some shut-eye. This throat ain't so great for talking.

[selfhelp]

Oh- yeah, god, I'm sorry. Get some rest. [He stands, feeling sheepish, and lifts a hand to wave as he backs off.] I'm glad you're going to be okay.

Hey. I'm glad too. And, uhm, right back atcha.

[ a wan smile before she paws at her blanket. ]
