Who: Anyone attending Nami's birthday party. /o/
What: ...Nami's birthday party. 8|
When: Evening on the 4th July.
Where: The mikan orchard.
Summary: An impromptu last minute stubborn celebration of something that's fun.
Rating: ...P for pinwheels? 8|a

[Tis a mingling post. Mingle! Seriously. The orchard's lit up, there is alcohol, there are snacks, there are mikan. There's also piles of coloured paper for much later, but that's another story.

[Hm. Tough choice. Vivi fans out the various colors of paper and sits for a long moment, debating. Finally she selects a pale pink and a much more vibrant fuchsia, and holds them up for Nami's approval.]

How about these?

[Oh, and she almost forgot!] Is there a mirror in here?

Beautiful colours. [She lifts a finger to point behind Vivi.] Right behind you! Just go through the doorway and you'll find one!

[She'll follow you in there, even.]

Okay! [She sets her selected papers down with exaggerated care, then hops to her feet and heads for the mirror. Luckily, it's a full-length mirror, so she has no trouble seeing her reflection.]

Oooh! [The paper flower in her hair looks even prettier than she imagined, the dark blue and purple a complimentary contrast to her light blue tresses. She hugs Nami's knees.] It's so pretty! Thank you, Nami!

You're welcome! [Hee. Even if her efforts will probably look a bit unravel-ey in another hour or so.] I was practising making pinwheels earlier and got a little distracted.

Oh, pinwheels! You like them, huh? [Curiosity satisfied, she begins meandering back to the paper.] Can you show me how to make one of those, too?

Those, I'm a little better at. Sure! Come and take a seat and we'll make a few.

[Vivi nods and obediently begins to sit close to Nami. Though, as she sits, there's a curious crumpling sound, and she gives a little gasp and jumps back to her feet.]

Oh no! [She reaches into the pocket of her dress ~~shut up, she totally has pockets, okay~~ and pulls out a piece of paper, now somewhat creased. Looking stricken, she goes to her hands and knees on the floor and tries to smooth it out.]

[~~All the best dresses have pockets~~ Oh whoops. Nami tilts her head, trying to get a better look.] Is it salvageable? [Whatever it is.]

[With a look of deep concentration, Vivi does her best to press the wrinkles from the paper. Finally deciding she's done the best she can, she sighs, straightening. Offering the page to Nami, she explains somewhat mournfully:] It's your birthday present. It's only a little bit ruined.

[And on the paper is this (albeit more wrinkled):]

[...kasdfs that is kind of. Okay she's not letting Luffy see it, but it's still adorable.

Also it's something Nami's going to tease Vivi about later. In a very affectionate sort of way, because it's really kind of awesome.]

All those jewels! Just what I like. Thank you!

[Vivi watches Nami's face carefully, and decides the present is appreciated despite its slightly mangled state. She beams, glad Nami picked up on the theme.] I remembered! I didn't have any real jewelry for you, but I put all the kinds I could think of.

Works for me! And hey, I bet if I pressed this out in a book it'd flatten out okay. [She takes it into the bedroom to put it down on the beside table, smoothing it out.] We'll leave it in here for safekeeping for the time being though, okay?

Do you think so? [Gosh, Nami, YOU ARE SO SMART.] Okay!

[With the revelation that her present might not be ruined after all, she hurries back to the table and her selected paper in shades of pink. Back to this other very important task!]

[Nami follows her out, shutting the door to the bedroom behind her.] Okay! Lemme show you how I've been doing them. [Approaching with a pair of scissors pulled out of her back pocket.]

[Vivi nods, sitting up straight to give Nami her full attention.]

Okay. It's easier to start with just a single colour pinwheel. But we can make two of them. You start by measuring out squares on the paper. Here-- [She collects the pencil and a ruler already on the table.] You can measure it out with the ruler equally enough-- and then after that we use scissors...

[Vivi nods, setting the pink paper she selected for her flower aside for now, paying close attention to what Nami's showing her. It doesn't seem too hard, mostly just making a few cuts and folding. She picks another piece of paper (sea-green) and begins to make her own. She does all right until the paper is cut, then hesitates before looking back up to Nami.]

Show me the way to fold it again?

Sure thing. [She reaches out to tape one of her pieces, then folds one edge over gently to meet the other so that the paper is curved.] Like that! And then you need to pin it... [Hmm.] I can do that part if you like, though.

Okay! She thinks she's got it this time; she really does. She's fine with letting Nami do the pokey bit, however.]

[Her face lights up as Nami displays the finished product.] Wow, it looks good! [Apparently pinwheels are fairly simple to make. Who knew.]

[And then, reaching for her pink paper and holding it up:] Can you show me how to make a flower now?

Sure! [She'll proceed to do just that, though it's clear she's not quite as good with this one.] I was never much for making paper flowers at home, so this is pretty new. I only learned how to make a pinwheel when I came here, for that matter.

[Vivi watches as Nami demonstrates, carefully imitating her with her own paper. Once it's complete, she beams, though the result is no better constructed than the one Nami gave her.]

How does it look? [Holding it out toward Nami.] I made it for you, so we can both have flowers in our hair!

It's very cute! [She can't talk for quality, and besides it's cute that Vivi made it, so Nami sticks into her hair with great aplomb and fluffs her orange locks.] How does it look?

Beautiful. [Vivi beams, clearly quite pleased with the results.]

Oh! Can I make one for Ikki too?

You can make as many as you want. Make sure you make one for Sanji-kun, too. [Huhuhuhu.]

[Nami, you are the best.] Okay! I'll make a really pretty one for him, too!

[She surveys the different colored paper, quickly selecting red and orange for Ikki's flower. After a little more deliberation, she picks light blue and cream for Sanji. With a look of extreme concentration, she begins to put the flowers together.]
