Who: Anyone attending Nami's birthday party. /o/
What: ...Nami's birthday party. 8|
When: Evening on the 4th July.
Where: The mikan orchard.
Summary: An impromptu last minute stubborn celebration of something that's fun.

[Tis a mingling post. Mingle! Seriously. The orchard's lit up, there is alcohol, there are snacks, there are mikan. There's also piles of coloured paper for much later, but that's another story.

[Blinks in surprise. Oh did he?]

I will, if you promise to tell me about your day and home. [Okay so he has a soft spot for kids, so sue him.] And you have to promise not to do anything too crazy when up in the air, okay? [You know, don't be Luffy. Luckily this is an easy order for anyone not Luffy.]

[Vivi's face lights up.] Uh. Okay! What do you wanna know?

[She nods in response to the second stipulation.] I won't! When Pell gives me a ride I'm always really careful!

...will you do loops?

How's your week been so far? All good? We can start with that.

[He's rather start with Pell so that he knew just how much experience she had with flying and how safely he could be adventurous but that would have to wait.]

You really want them? [He leads her out to somewhere more open and crouches down low, bending so that she can climb on.] Is that something Ace told you about, or something you did with Pell?

Pretty good! [She still feels a twinge of homesickness from time to time, but there's been a lot to distract her.] I made lots of new friends!

[She follows quietly, but nods enthusiastically when he asks about loop-the-loops.] Yeah, I do! It's okay, Pell did them. [...sometimes. And only after endless wheedling on Vivi's part. But Marco doesn't need to know that, right? After all, there's no way Papa will find out. She begins to climb aboard, sliding up to Marco's shoulders like she does on Pell.]

Oh? Anyone I might know besides Ace?

Huh... I wonder if falcons are better at that. How tightly can you hold on? [He's a little wary about it still. With Ace, at least if he falls, he's hardy. And a logia user. And Robin can hold her own long enough for Marco to catch her. Well... he'll just have to be insanely careful. When he's sure she's safely on, he gets a good running start, spreading the wings out wide and letting them expand, cheating with the blue flames to get a little extra lift so they can take off flying.]

Um. [She's not really sure who Marco knows besides Ace, so she just starts rattling off a list of everyone she can remember.] Sanji, Nami, Luffy, Tony Tony Chopper, Robin, Zoro, Vash, Sabo, Anita, Rin, Katie, Alexei, Applejack, and especially Ikki! [She's surely forgotten a few people in there, but she still has to pause for a much-needed breath at the end.]

Oh? I can hold on tight! Really tight! [She eyes his feathers before taking a grip, though.] It won't burn, right?

[But then he's off and running, and Vivi gives an excited squeal and threads her fingers through his feathers to grip tightly--with Pell, she would normally just hold onto his robes, so she hopes it doesn't hurt. And then they're off, in the sky and climbing steadily.] Wheeee~!

Phoenix Ikki? Wow, you really did meet practically everyone, eh?

It won't burn. [Oops, he said that kind of late, so she probably realizes by now.] My flames just help me heal. And look awesome.

[But oh yay, enthusiasm! He's good with this.]

[Phoenix Ikki? Oh, maybe that's her last name.] She's an airbender. And she's my best friend here and now we're sisters. [Honorary, at least.]

[Once Marco levels off a bit, she loosens her grip slightly, feeling more secure. She lifts one hand experimentally and passes it over a patch of flames. Hm. Faintly warm. Pleasant, even, and slightly ticklish where the flames lick her palm.]

Do your wings look like this too? [Meaning while he's in human form.]

Oh, my apologies, different Ikki then. The Ikki I was thinking of is a guy around Ace's age.

Oh! But you found a sister? That's great! [Marco understands all about honorary and adopted siblings, no worries.]

Aye, they do. I can make them a little bigger easier in hybrid form though. Which is just as well since I weigh more then. Are Pell's like that too?

Oh? Somebody else has the same name? [She giggles.] A lady named Dagger told me she knows someone with my same name, too. And he's a boy. [More giggles, because obviously Vivi is a girl's name.] Uh-huh. I didn't have any brothers or sisters, and Ikki only has an older sister, not a younger one, so we decided to be sisters too!

[She cocks her head quizzically, not quite sure what he means.] Pell doesn't have wings like people have here. Only when he's a bird. Or part-bird.

Eh?? Really? Vivi seems like more a girl's name though. [Not that Ikki isn't masculine to him. Well whatever, genders. Like Marco even has a good grasp on those.]

Sounds like a good reason to me, eh~ [Just wanting to is a good reason to him so... yeah.]

Oh. Those wings. [Those he can't do much about. It's weird not to be able to control some part of his body or another. He flexes them, though in bird form he keeps them buried underneath layer of flames and his "real" wings.] Those are similarly colored, but no flames. They're irksome. What about you, do you like your wings?

[She nods vigorously.] I know! [Clearly a girl's name. His parents must have been so silly to name him that.]

Irksome? [Not a word she knows. She smiles at his question, though.] I like mine a lot! They're really pretty! I wanna keep them when I go home, and then maybe me and Carue can both try to learn how to fly!

It means they get in my way. [Not really, but close enough since he doesn't want to discourage her since she seems to like them so much.]

Oh? Think you learn from being around a couple of ace fliers?

Carue's a spot billed duck, right?

Oh. Mine don't. Maybe they're littler.

[She shrugs, not that Marco may be guaranteed to see, perched on his back as she is.] Pell can help. And if we practice really hard...

[She trails off at the question about Carue. She's always happy to talk about her BFF.] Yeah! He's still little, but in a couple more years, I'll be able to ride him!

[Could be that, or just that her arms aren't wings as well, but he'll keep it to himself.] It's good that you like yours. They remind me of sky islanders.

Yeah? They're pretty much the fastest runners out there, right? For good distances at least.

Oh yeah! They have little wings on their backs too! I saw some at Mariejois.

[Vivi nods vigorously.] Right! And I bet when Carue grows up, he'll be the fastest fastest!

[Speaking of which...this nice leisurely gliding is good and all, but Vivi's ready for something a little more exciting. She taps Marco's back.] Let's go higher! And faster!

Aye, they do.

The fastest of them all, eh? I'll have to race him sometime.

[Grins at the request and speeds up, picking up more lift to get high enough that he'll still have time to deal with emergencies and speeds up like a rollercoaster.]

Has Pell ever done a barrel roll with you?

[Vivi hangs on tightly to Marco's feathers as they begin to dive. Now that's more like it!] Wheeeee~!

[Once she catches her breath, she answers his question.] I don't think so. What's a barrel roll?

Like a sideways loop. A spiral.

We'll try a regular loop first.

[Because the entire Straw Hat crew and most of Luceti will kill him if he accidentally drops her the way he dropped Ace. Yeah.]

Make sure you're really holding on tight, eh.

[There's another burst of speed as he soars up and back down before looping backwards in a loop de loop.]

Oh! That sounds fun!

[Vivi nods, threading her fingers into his feathers to get an extra-tight grip, and crouching a little lower on his back. She gives an excited squeal as they begin to climb, and before she knows it, the world is shifting crazily as they loop around. The air is rushing so fast she finds it hard to catch her breath, but the only sound she'd be making if she could would be a shriek of delight.]

[Swerves and levels out as the come out of while Marco shakes off any dizziness threatening to creep up on him and sneaks a peek back at his rider.]

Ready to try a barrel roll then? [At least she seems to be enjoying it. The acrobatics are rarely something he bothers with on his own, but it's fun to get reactions.]

Yes, yes! [Only enthusiastic nodding coming from back here.]

Okay stay really close and low, all right!

[And with that, Marco tumbles over side over side, in a barrel roll in midair.]

[Vivi just has time to shout a quick, "Okay!", pressing herself low to his back, and he's begun. The initial rush as they begin to turn is like nothing she's ever experienced before. It's almost like they're holding still and the horizon is rotating around them.]

[Marco's a bit breathless as he pulls out of it, leveling straight and he keeps flying forward until he can catch his breath again, just relieved that Vivi has enough sense to hold on. Probably from experience. Or just plain not being as rash a D. He shivers a little from the adrenaline, shaking off some sparkles and sneaks a quick glance at her to make sure she wasn't scared.]
