Beach Volleyball Tournament

What: Volleyball Tournament
When: July 22nd, 11am onward!
Where: The Beach!
Summary: Fun in the sun and a bit of competitive spirit! If you signed up for the volleyball tournament, be prepared to rock the house down against the opposing teams! Just there to watch? Enjoy the seats around the volleyball courts as a spectator and have a refreshing drink or some beach-side snacks! SWIMSUIT REQUIRED for everyone there. If you're found by someone in charge without one you may or may not be subject to getting mysteriously kidnapped and put in one, human or not. That's right, even chihuahuas if there are any have to at least have a cool straw hat and sunglasses.
Rating: PG-13. Please try to keep it PG-13 max and warn in the subject header for anything iffy!
When you first arrive, there will be a huge board with the brackets for the tournament on it:



{{ ooc: All of the brackets were totally randomized using RNG on random.org. Unfortunately, I don't have all of the muns memorized so if I put your character against another one of your character, PLEASE let me now ASAP and we can get that fixed! If there are no replies to a match within one week, that team will be disqualified as having not showed up, just so that we can keep going. After the first week, it will be 3 days. (The first week is to account for Otakon, since I know a lot of people are going to that.) }}

After you pass the sign, there are multiple volleyball courts set up, ref towers, lots of beach umbrellas and towels set out on the sand for viewers, and waiters and waitresses handing out drinks to anyone who comes by, courtesy of the local bars. Alcohol will only be available to those who are 18+. It's hot, too, so make sure you don't forget sunscreen!

I'd love to see them dead too, but that's not happening. The police came right after the last person got killed off, so they're in custody. I think. [ She crosses her arms. ] Being dead kind of means you don't get up-to-date statuses on criminal sentences. For all I know, they might be getting off on parole or on death row.

Let's hope that the law dogs are actually competent on your world then, because that kind of crime doesn't go unpunished in mine. Someone, somehow, should go after them. There really is honor among thieves, just not in all of them. Ones like that are the lowest of the low, and will never be able to play in the global circuit.

...I'm sorry you had to go through that, Pippa.

The police are pretty good, if a little slow. It's the lawyers that make things hard. Getting anything actually done besides jail time is difficult.

[ She shakes her head. ] As long as you're nothing like them, then I'm not worried.

Lawyers. hnn..they're all the same.

[He frown at that thought momentarily before offering her a small smile.] My partners and I are nothing at all like them. You can have a little faith in this thief.

Hopefully I can. I won't count you out yet, at least. [ Lupin might be one of the first people she's actually hesitant about trusting, just because of this. ]

[He regards her thoughtfully for a beat before speaking up again.]

How about a little tit for tat, then? Since you told me something that was very personal. [It only seemed fair.]

[magentarific]

[ She looks at him. She's pretty serious right now, but she doesn't seem to be anything more than calm. ] You don't have to. I won't stop you if you want to and I'll listen, but if you don't want to talk about it you don't have to. I'm not expecting you to.

[ She wants to make that very clear. Yuri's not the type of person to ask about a person's past unless they offer it up. She didn't tell Lupin that for a story swap, but she won't stop him if he still continues knowing that. ]

It just seemed fair. I want this to be as level a playing field as we can manage, since you're uneasy.

[He understood that it wasn't a story swap...but he wanted her to trust him.

Odds were that she would find out anyway, if they continued meeting up like this.]

[ She considers this for a moment, then relaxes a bit. ] Alright, your turn then.

I--uh...

[He's rarely had to actually say it, though the thought itself doesn't bug him. It was the surrounding circumstances, his payment, and the fact that he would do it again.]

...I kinda died recently, back when we were protecting the blue man from the other faction. Not many people around here actually know that, though.

[magentarific]

You died? [ Yuri doesn't sound that shocked or put out. Just curious. She doesn't exactly feel guilt about that kind of thing if the person isn't permanently gone. ] They must've been pretty strong, you don't look like the kind of guy who goes down easy.

[redjacketthief]

[He didn't mind the dying part. It was his moral quandary surrounding the incident that bothered him.] No--I was one of the guys who went into the facility, and the disguise didn't leave any room for a kevlar vest. I'm just a man, and bullets are not fun to take.

[magentarific]

Don't I know it; bullets really sting. [ A brief pause. The important part.. ] Are you okay now? [ She was pretty sure that he looked fine, even though he'd died. She'd heard about all these super debilitating effects that happened when you died, she'd been expecting someone who died to be stuck somewhere in their housing, unable to move. ]

Don't I know it~ [Even normally, he was no stranger to them--they have, indeed, nearly cost him his life on a number of occasions. He offers Yuri a reassuring smile at her question.]

I'm okay enough. My mind is intact and I'm not blind, which has always been the important things. They just left me with odd bouts of vertigo and a screwed up sense of balance.

I'm working around it, but I really just can't stay cooped up for the next...I'm not even going to think about how long.

[magentarific]

So if I poked you in the side a few times would you fall over?

[ She moved closer, almost as though she was about to do just as she'd suggested. ]

[He eyed her warily.] I'd rather you didn't. It's funny how the sand and the heat can be hard enough to deal with.

[magentarific]

Are you sure? Maybe we should bury you in the sand~ [ Her tone is obviously playful at least.. though with her that might not be comforting, all things considered. ]

[redjacketthief]

[Dat tone--dat face.]

Pippa...I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that tone of voice. [He may need an adult.]

[magentarific]

[ She makes an odd, short, confident laugh with her lips closed. It's almost sing-song. ] H-hmm~ Don't worry, I'll make sure to let you go by the end of the day!

You know what? I think I'm pretty good. The Hawaiian shirt really is a lovely touch--you don't need to add anything else to it.

Hmm, maybe I should let you off [ pause ] If you promise to wear one of those cheap rainbow leis and attempt to hula in front of no less than five people, not including myself.

I'll wear the lei, but no hula. Balance, Pippa. Remember?

Oh I remember, just pretend you're drunk.

Aaaaand pretending to be drunk [And actually drinking a little to prove it] Got me in trouble with one of the doctors--and probably Law himself, if he catches word.
