Player Event - Chaos Plot
Who: Helios and pretty much everyone who replied to this post
What: The demon god Apep which affixed itself to Helios’ soul has awoken.
When: August 6th-9th
Where: Starting around house 44 then mainly around town and the woods
Summary: Basically Helios gets possessed and causes all sorts of chaos and destruction that the evil god, Apep, is known for causing!
Rating: R for lots of violence
[ It’s strange how the twist of events of a simple evening walk could change much of everything. In an instant, that was Luceti’s way of things, changing things in an instant. And Helios never even saw it coming. There were still parts of that night and parts of his soul that he never truly understood. But there were always ways of finding out. They say hands on experience is one of the best ways of learning. And this is a lesson he and several others won't soon forget. ]
((ooc; Okay plot is a go! If anyone doesn’t have an out for their character to be saved please PM me or contact me on plurk at pathogenic~ Otherwise have fun!))

Handwave the travel so we're not writing the Lord of the Rings?
Finally, the trio arrives at a cave, nestled deep in the forest. Saori unslings the chain from her shoulder and holds it tightly]
He's inside. I will prepare the binding ritual, but he'll sense it. Distract him, and remember the Banes we talked about. His left side, your left foot, spitting on him, and chains.
SURE.
I shrugged, unhooked the little makeshift blasting rod, and winced as the motion brought a spasm of pain from my ribs.
"Alright, kiddo, cover us and stay back."
And without waiting for a response, I began to creep inside.

Molly's Veils were nearly flawless, rendering anyone behind them protected by magic which left them not only invisible, but behind a force which kept them from being heard or scented. The downside? Nothing could hide the footprints of where they'd been, and there was a slight distortion of vision coming from pulling this kind of magic.
But Molly was very, very good at this; it one was one of the kinds of magic which came most easily to her, and the distortion was very, very slight.
Veiled or not, though, Molly was going to move away from the clearing. She promised she'd follow Harry's orders, and she was as good as her word.

Above them, the storm raged, fueling her anima even more. Passing the first link through the mandala was a difficult task, her hands having to force it as though it was passing through a piece of wood. But it was through, and the etched words on the link lit up with divine power.
The binding ritual had begun...]

So I did what I really hadn't wanted to do. I opened up my Sight.
The first thing that struck me was that most of the darkness was magical. Ancient, terrible magic, far older and darker than anything I'd ever seen from a mortal mage. It wasn't even like the work of the Fallen Angels, whose magic was at least- supposedly- a perversion of their Father's holy work, supposedly.
It wasn't beyond time, or beyond comprehension. But it was vast.
The darkness seems to congeal around a single figure, barely visible through the writhing. And within I see him, like a vast, hideous snake, wrapped around the empty shell of Helios, ensnaring him, controlling him, making him a prisoner.
... And suddenly, I wasn't much in the mood for subtlety or plots. Suddenly I just wanted to hurt this son of a bitch for what it was doing to Helios.
So I summoned up my will as I moved closer, and, crying out into the cave so the echos would hide my position, I cried out the name, pouring my will into mastering it, into binding myself to it, even as I strove to recall every nuance of the name. The faint Romanian accent. The hint of hesitance. The slight quaver of uncertainty. The quiet humility.
It wasn't an easy thing, but frankly, I've been doing this for a while, and I'm good at it. True Names are one of the handiest tricks in a wizard's arsenal.
"Helios Sprensonne!"

The cry of pain is coming from Helios himself as the darkness lashes out and shakes the cave around them. The giant shadowed snake writhes in agony as something tries to control it. Helios is bent over, pain clearly in his eyes and body's posture as he clutches at his chest. The pain. There was so much pain. He had to go back, he couldn't fight his will. He couldn't fight Apep's will with his own powerless one. A man going against a god it would never work, never meant to work. Apep's eyes flicker with anger as his head turns towards Harry's slowly.
His voice when he speaks is a mixture of his own and Helios'. A snarl as he launches forward towards Harry. ] You!

... So I, being in general a smartass, simply grinned, held out my hand, and shouted "Infriga."
It has been my experience that even a deity that resists my magic will still get hurt if it slips on an icy cave floor and falls on its ass, and I had just frozen the entire bottom of the cave.
And so, doing my best Speedy Gonzales voice, I then said, "Andale, andale!"
And I bolted for the exit of the cave.

But the light from outside makes them hiss and crack as the draw nearer and nearer. ]

The storm raged around the clearing, and her anima mandala flared, growing brighter inside the veil. She was working as fast as she could, and only hoped she would be fast enough.]

But I was also betting that, as a god of darkness, the light wasn't his preferred playground. He'd be less potent out here, especially if the Name had disrupted his hold over Helios as I hoped.
So I stumbled out the door just as a black spine tripped me up, sending me sprawling. I tucked and rolled with the fall, and jumped up to my feet again, facing the cave entrance.
"Come on, asshole! You've got some of my magic, and I want it back!"

Apep will dash forward then right arm outstretched as he makes a grab for Harry's neck. ] You will never have it back, but I will gladly take some more from you!
[ He pauses then in his advance his hands flying to his head as the snake behind Helios rears up and lashes about. A scream, the most normal and human sounding scream to erupt from his mouth thus far, cuts through the air as Helios tries to maintain some semblance of control over his body again. But the god will not have it and his hands will grip his chest and as is if fighting with himself in some mock parody.
He'll look at Harry with pleading eyes then. ] You-y-you have to s-stop it. [ Helios will bend over slightly a constricted utterance of pain escaping his lips as he does so. ] K-Kill me, p-please.

Working with this much of her own life's energy isn't without a toll, the goddess's nose actually begins to ooze blood. She's pulling in every last iota of strength she can muster. A god seeking to bind a god is the stuff of legends, the fundamental element of myths. It would not be easy, but the chain was almost done...]

Of course, this was me we were talking about. I wouldn't kill Helios, because I was too damn stubborn to accept that answer.
No. I'd just use the opportunity for a geeky quote.
"Helios Sprensonne," I began, again letting the power of the True Name roll through my voice.
I finished by letting a hint of Ian McKellan into my voice as I shouted "He did not kill me, and he will not kill you!"
And then, I thought back to every single martial arts lesson Murphy had ever given me, and I reeled back to deliver the best side kick I could manage with my left foot to the left side of his ribcage. One advantage of my height- I can kick a lot higher than most people with a lot less effort.
Now if only it didn't feel like I'd just kicked a cement wall.

"I will kill you and make him watch!" It's said in a vicious biting, angry tone. Nothing like Helios' normal tone and the anger behind it is almost palpable.

Boldly, the thunder goddess strode out of Molly's spell, her hands whirling the chain above her head. The air thrummed with magical power as the Veil dropped due to the god's spellbreaking chain. Thunderheads rumbling in the sky as Saori made her dynamic entry into the fray, sunlight streaming through the clouds, illuminating her from behind like some sort of avenging angel.]
You will not lay a finger on ANY of my friends again, Apep.
[Her voice is peals across the clearing, audible over the storm and the raging magic, while the chain picks up speed...]
This. Is. Over.

Molly knows when it's time to get the hell out of Dodge. Angry goddess vs. angry god? Usually a bit past time.
It's just too bad that Harry is smack in the middle of it all.
She doesn't drop her own veil, though it's become excessively difficult to hold well in the middle of all this rain, requiring her to add another layer on top of it in order to redirect attention as well as maintain invisibility.
She runs right up to him and places an invisible hand on his shoulder, veiling him as well. The pain is far from gone, and the further concentration in using magical energy after it had already been displaced once causes a trickle of blood to dribble out her nose - 'killer headache' doesn't even begin to cover it. But she pushes through.]
Time to go, Harry.

[ He sees that chain though and stops in his movements towards her. A sword made out of pure darkness now lay in his right hand. Those chains. He will not be chained down. He will not. ] You will not chain me. I will not allow it!
[ Not by some goddess he has never even heard of before. And so the blackness from the shadows of the trees lash out then. They try in a desperate attempt to wrap around her and impede her movements. ]

But, well, sometimes these types of people really were that dumb. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and then the veil fell over me again, as Apep's attention shifted to Saori. I was all in favor of taking Molly's suggestion and booking, or at least retreating to a safe distance, when I saw the shadows lashing out toward Saori from the trees.
So, rather than do the intelligent thing, I just ran into the shadows in her place, interposing myself between her and the dark tendrils.

I beg to differ, you arrogant fool.
[And then they charged, full tilt at one another. Her whirling chain and his sword of pure midnight flashed in the murky sunlight. Apep's infernal fury was met by Saori's righteous indignation, a clash of divine wills. The lightning she'd absorbed supercharged her movements, and she darted forward as swiftly as a sparrow in flight. She dipped low, diving around his sword and lashed out with her left foot, striking him squarely in the side with a bone-shattering kick. A sickening crunch accompanied the blow, Saori certain that she'd fractured a rib.
Grimly, she skipped backwards, her waist bending backwards at a near perfect right angle, Apep's black blade whisking overhead. And then it was her turn to retaliate with a weapon. The enchanted chain snapped out like a silver viper, smartly wrapping around Apep, its magic clamping down smartly, freezing his movements and locking him up entirely. Divine power poured off the chain, the monumental task of the enchantment completed.
Apep couldn't move, merely speak.]
And now, it ends.

Yes. I know more than one person who attacks people with his shadow. I live an interesting life, okay?
The shadows were writhing over my skin, and they felt rough, abrasive. Almost like snake scales. I had to admire his dedication to concept, even if it did hurt like hell.
One of the tendrils tried for my neck, but I was able to get my hand up before it could strangle me. Somehow I suspected that wouldn't keep me alive for long, and I could feel warm trickles of my own blood from my hand, my legs, and my torso. Luckily, my coat held up to the punishment, because it's a very nice coat and it does that, but this could get ugly pretty fast. Saori had a bigger fish to fry. I did not want Molly coming over and trying to tangle with this. And I couldn't come up with a way out.
I was just making my peace with the fact that I wouldn't know if it had worked until I came back to life in a week when the tendrils suddenly vanished and I fell to the ground with an undignified thud.
"... Ow."

Their powers buffeted her, penetrating her awareness, her will, twining themselves around her. She could feel the darkness of Apep's strength, hatred and rage, lashing all around her. She could feel Saori's implacable determination and wild power.
The combination of those powers, the whiplash from Saori breaking her spell, and Harry leaving her there to run towards certain death kicked Molly into survival mode. If all she could do was hold on to her veil and scream where no one could hear her, then that was exactly what she was going to do until she could move.]

There was no fear only anger and pain. So much pain almost to blinding for him to even see through. He let out an indignant yell as he tried to preform magic, but it failed. It didn't work at all. ] Y-You...
