Who: Katie McCoy and her victims of choice.

Summary: Triggered by recent events, Katie's darker, more primal soul is in control and intent on sharing the love. Or the hate. Depends on your definition, really.
Rating: ...I honestly don't know. Let's make it a high PG just in case?

[First there came the wraith child,
Hands and silver hair,
Then there came the dark place,
All the hurt laid bare,
Now the soul is broken,
Torn beyond a care,
Shining now among you...

[Oh. She's never had to explain what a sponsor logo is.]

Sponsor logos are the logos for the companies that sponsor me for being a Hero! [Obvs.] They're really important to have, because that's partly how I get paid. [More or less ~~or so I'm assuming~~.]

You get paid for being a Hero? Don't you do it just to be a Hero?

Of course I do! Me and the other Heroes save people because we want to! [Well, they do now.] But it's our job, too, so that's why we get paid.

Oooh. [She considers that. Getting money for it kind of feels like selling out. Buuut. It's not that different from being a policewoman, is it?]

I suppose you need the extra money for drycleaning.

[She laughs.]

I guess! Natasha takes care of that for me, but I think my company pays for it in the end.

Who's Natasha? Is she your butler?

Nah! [Though that thought is kind of funny. Especially since Pao-Lin's only vaguely aware of what a butler actually is and what their job is.] She's my caretaker. I live with her because my parents couldn't move to Sternbild with me.

[...she's starting to have second thoughts, you know. You seem like a pretty nice person. And lonely-ish, too.]

Do you miss your parents?

[Pao-Lin's gaze drops to the ground.]

...a little, I guess. I mean, I don't want them to be here, but...I wish I could at least tell them I'm okay.

[Even if technically, because of the way Luceti works, they wouldn't even notice that she's gone.]

[Katie takes that at face value, and just smiles a little.

...now or never, she thinks. She needs it.]

Show me what they look like?

Oh -- sure! But I'm not very good at drawing old people.

[Still, she'll untie the sketchbook enough to turn to a fresh page and begin sketching out her mother.]

Then why don't you draw them as if they were young?

[Pausing mid-sketch.]

Huh? I never thought about what they'd look like young...

Everyone's young on the inside.

[Pao-Lin's not sure what that means, exactly, but she supposes that her parents were her age once, too.

So okay, she'll take up Katie on her challenge and try to draw her mom as a teenager.]

[Katie watches quietly for a few moments. And there's enough decency left for her to feel apology, words never uttered.

But she's hungry.

So when Pao-Lin is deeply engrossed in what she's doing, creative glamour beginning to drift toward her, she reaches out with a finger and sends a spark of her own into the mix.

And watches as the drift of invisible gold begins to turn dark.]

[Hm, this is a bit more difficult than Pao-Lin thought it would be. She's never seen pictures of her parents in their younger years. Would her mother look like her right now, maybe?

Pao-Lin is about to turn to Katie to apologize for potential quality problems when suddenly something clicks and she knows exactly what she needs to do. Touch up the hair there, fix the anatomy over here...oh, and she thinks she might know how to draw her dad now, too. By the time she finishes with adding her dad to the picture, she's decided that she wants to add a rather complex background to the sketch as well, filled with all sorts of little details.]

[There we go.

The glamour flares a burnt golden, traces of darkness still within, before it shines as bright as the sun. So much of it. All needed.

Katie edges away from Pao-lin, ocnfident her retreat won't be noticed. And a few moments later, there's a small kitten curled under the bench, tail twitching slightly as she pulls it all in.

Later, she'll feel terrible. But later is a long time away.]
