Summary: Masaomi seeks guidance from one of the most senior Pokémon trainers after a recent losing streak.
Rating: PG

[It was typical, of course, for Green to be in the forest and training. He had a set schedule, after all, even if his training spots were often a bit varied. Lately, despite the bitter cold, Green had taken to dressing lightly and using a wooden sword himself, practicing his own skills that he hadn't trained as severely since he was a very young child.

He'd swing at his Rhydon to raise its maneuverability, he'd strike at Charizard to teach it to react instead of flinch, and he'd have Scizor train him to be faster and parry blows better. It's important, after all, for a trainer to get more involved - even if Green has been training since childhood.

Masaomi would likely find him along the water today, wearing a t-shirt and light pants and practicing with Scizor at the moment.]

I don't need to be [...He actually intends for that to be a speech about how he just wants to be on par with Shikamaru and Katara, but Linda chimes in there to protest and cuts him off. Of course it's her place to be, shut up]

I don't trust the motivations you have for getting stronger, but more importantly, I don't think you're a good trainer for that Pokémon. You're basically raising a wild Pokémon, and the people here don't have Pokémon of their own to defend themselves if they must.

[Green stares Masaomi straight in the face, the stern glare locking eyes with his junior.]

I have half a mind to take her away from you altogether. Perhaps I'll raise her, retrain her, and then give her to someone else.

I'm not going to allow that. [It's said simply, and Linda actually adopts a serious expression, agreeing with him. He says it lightly - because frankly, if this came to violence, he couldn't stop Green and he knows it. But he not going to release his partner.]

Her and I are having problems, yes, and I'm here for advice and help from you, but I'm not going to release her to anyone else. Not even you, Green-san. Frankly, I don't think she'd want to comply.

[Or maybe she would - some stuff Silver's told him about trading mechanics is spooky. But, right now, Linda actually chimes in to agree with him.]

My motivations for being stronger aren't complicated, Green. I'm in love with someone so, so much stronger than I am. My best friend is leagues above me as well. I want to remain with them, and so I've got to get at their level. Linda, meanwhile, is even more ambitious than me. I'm going to help her get to the level she wants too. Now, will you help me?

[A beat, and then-]

[Green is not intimidated in the slightest, and he doesn't look any more confident in Masaomi or Linda.]

I'll help you when you've decided to be a Pokémon Trainer, not a pet owner. The relationship between yourself and Linda isn't functional, and it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. If you want to be a Pokémon Trainer, then you will follow my instruction to the letter!

[He's got no confidence that he would intimidate him. But you know what-] Fine, I can follow orders.

[He chafes at them, actually, but he's willing to allow Green his power trip if it'll help him. Which he is, well, confident it will. Green's the strongest trainer here.]

You will have to. Giving and receiving orders is a part of the relationship between trainers, and between them and their Pokémon. Linda may not like it, but she has no choice. She must obey your orders and you must learn to understand how to guide her every move.

I don't mean to be childish, but I don't think Gold adheres to that 100%.

[Mostly, he's just saying this to see what Green says. He's not trying to contradict him - it's half to have a response and half to pacify Linda's bristling he can sense already]

He does. He doesn't need to give them direct commands because he has a firm understanding of them and how they think, and over the years they have come to learn the same of him.

Regardless, he still is the one to tell them what to do. He does not let his Pokémon run the show, and he does not sit back and watch them do the work.

[Alright, if you say so. He knows, at thier best, Linda and him have been there. Really, she wouldn't have gotten past a pichu if they didn't. But in the last several months...]

Alright, so noted.

[Whatever objections he has are stifled. Green clearly has a low opinion of him anyway, there's no need to pick more fights]

And now for your training, for today.

[Green goes over, recalling Rhydon and digging through his bag. He pulls out a short wooden sword, tossing it at Masaomi.]

Put Linda away.

[A sword? Really? He glances at Linda, who just shrugs. With Rhyhorn gone, there's no eye candy anyway. So he recalls her with her lurid yellow pokeball and gets the sword in hand.

His stance is one-handed, holding it like he would one of his metal batons he's much more used to fighting with. Kendo master he is not]

[Good, good... Green lets out Charizard.]

I will train you as I was trained. Your opponent is Charizard.

[Re...really - he looks surprised for all of about two seconds before he smirks. You know what, this'll be fun. He'd prefer to have his impact diel, the gear, the other stuff, but you know outside of flames whatever other bullshit the dragon has, he's confident]

Alright then.

Like my teacher before me, I will teach you what it means to be a trainer. What it means to battle with Pokémon.

You're being let off easy, starting this late in your life.

Tell that to all the bruises I got from Silver. Maaah, I hear you though, Sensei.

[It's only slightly irreverent, but it's the only way he can cope with this man's severity.]

[Green nudges Charizard, who stomps forward, slashing at Masaomi with its claws.

Green himself stood back and watched, for now. He was severe, certainly, and the disrespectful attitude only made him moreso.]

So what's the goal up here? [If Masaomi's anything, it's quick on his feet. (though really, these days, he's a whole lot more than that) Despite how well trained the Charizard is, the claws seem to move in slow motion, and so a light step back with no wasted movement? That's easy enough to do right now]

Attack it. Don't waste your time dodging his claws, parry the blows!

[Green doesn't directly respond, instead giving Masaomi the order.]

[Dodging's easy. Whatever. He has no idea where the pressure points are on a dragon, but he can improvise. The next claw swipe he ducks under, using the crouch as spring to get airborne- from there there's a swipe at the back of the neck with the sword and, should he be able to plant a hand, leaping on over the thing.

Of course, despite him being strong and agile there's still the wings, a small opening for a grapple, and an oversight in the form of the tail. It's well executed for what it is, it's just full of excess moments from someone who's self-taught himself to fight for years]

[It's hard to compete with a well-trained Pokémon, in the end. Charizard tilted his head so that the sword hit his horns instead of his neck, then arched up to smack the human hard with his surprisingly strong wings.]

Go back around the front, Masaomi.

[Which did knock him off, briefly winded him, but hey, he landed n his feet. But right, right. Back around front it is, going fast because he's not sure if it's still a fight]

[It is - as Masaomi is moving, Charizard twists and sweeps his tail at knee-level.]

Jump up and get leverage!

[Wait, is he the pokemon? He's totally the pokemon. Rude. Oh well, he knew to do the jump, but turns it into one of his classics, a jump kick.

His standing jump (such as this is) around three and a half feet right there]

[If you consider that an insult, then you're not getting Green's point!

Charizard gets his jaw kicked, but brings his head down after the swing to deliver a headbutt.]

He's slow, sidestep it and strike!
