[Max takes the offered hand, giving it a firm shake for a moment and maybe it lingers just a little than is quite polite but there's something kind of interesting about him.]

[Derek is, of course, lost in his own thoughts, such as the fact that he'd just caught sight of someone with red hair, and had managed to lose sight of them before he could even think of hobbling after them. Damn.

...Of course, he'd been trying anyway, so the bumping into is likely both literal and also most likely his fault. He has to scramble a little to make sure he doesn't lose grip of his crutches, but once he gets that sorted out, he gives the young man an apologetic smile.]

[Normally he would ignore that hand, shy away from the touch. Perhaps he still would have done if Saleh was more forward about it. As it was he found himself reaching out too, taking that hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.]

I do not understand what is happening but... it is not entirely unpleasant.

[ Helios is totally not paying attention to you there Eley. His own attentions are fixed on the smoking grounds before him. It's only when the spirit says his name that Helios will jump slightly and turn to find the other man there watching him. For some reason his own heartbeat speeds up a little, but he just attributes it to his magic practicing. He gives Eleytheria a rather warm smile and a slight wave. ]

I-I didn't see you over there. Hello. Ah. Is-is there something I can help you with? [ Helios has been offering the other a lot of assistance in the past, so this time is no different. Though he feels slightly different when he asks it. But he'll just...keep that feeling pushed to the very back of his mind, yes. ]

[ He is just...going to color some more at that innocent response. Because good lord he cannot take compliments well, and it makes it even worse when it's someone that uses magic. Mostly the feel stems from never having anyone praise his work back home but here he should be used to it by now, or at least enough so that it doesn't make him feel this embarrassed. Valentine's Day event, right, just have to remember that. Helios will clear his throat and shakes his head. ]

Well you have plenty of teachers here to, ah, take up the job! I-I'm sure you'll be able to-to find someone willing.

[ His eyes just look down at his gloved hands while he fidgets a little. ] I-I wouldn't mind, um, helping if you'd like.

Hello, Cilan! [Oh, there goes his heart rate! So of course he feels his face turn flush.] This one is a history of trains! Which is interesting, the very small and subtle differences that it makes in worlds without Pokémon. The progression that the world this book was originally published in had made was very different, but all with such surprisingly similar results! It truly is wonderful and fascinating!

[Really it's a very simple book, but Emmet is just ecstatic about it. But... now he's feeling a stronger yearning! He pats the seat on the bench next to him, come now!]

Not as an everyday thing. But sometimes...

[Sometimes she just needs that extra kick. And on days that she does, it's a lifesaver.

She's not quite sure what conversation to make, though, as she moves to get the coffee prepared.]

Helios returns the smile, because he really can't help himself and he finds that Max's smile is so very oddly attractive at that instance. He wouldn't mind offering over and over again just so he could see it more. His heart beats just a little bit faster with that acceptance too. ]

Ah! Wonderful! I'd-I'd love to. [ He would love to very much so in that moment. ] I'd be more than happy to help with whatever I can. The library has sparse amount of books around with such information, but...I found one of my world's own teaching books. It's beginner level magic, but I think it's proven useful for the others I've been teaching.

Reading about the history of trains can be quite an exciting taste, especially when it comes to learning about the trains that other places have in comparison to the trains that we're familiar with and how they came to be... [Oh, but I don't think we've read this one about the trains from that particular world, but that's okay, it makes us really happy to see Emmet being so cheerful right now...

[Absolutely the cold. He's usually better than this, less awkward, except usually that's pure physical attraction and fun rather than noticing how sweet his smile is and god, he's surprised Helios can't hear how loud his heart is beating right now.

He would probably have agreed to anything if it meant spending a little more time and getting another of those smiles.]

I'm glad. I did try the library but, yeah. It's not well stocked. Beginner level is fine. Might as well start with the basics and uh- build from there, right?

[The hellion affords Loki the chance to stroke his own ego, as he sees it, without interruption, figuring that the consistent unacknowledgement of his sarcasm is some attempt at ruffling his composure.]

Broken? [He huffs a laugh at the expression.] My dear Loki, I haven’t one of glass. [The smile on his lips is mirthless and reserved, cruel and patient. It is time for a little story which he delivers in a slow, measured way.]

But… when I was a boy quite like yourself, my heart was nearly pierced by an oaken stake. ‘twas roughly a hand’s length, I recall, with a point not sharpened so much as to have made very simple work of breaking the skin. [He peters off a moment, his eyes cool and glazed over.]

But that mattered not, for it came with all the force the man possessed. ...A young man I believe I had rather liked at the time. [He admits, his expression of quiet amusement tinged with a sort of remorse. It had been his very first taste of unrequited love, if it could even be called so much.]

[It’s a statement delivered matter-of-factly, and after a long moment, it’s accompanied by a lift of one shoulder in a half-shrug.] ...The pain was like nothing I had ever known to that point. [He giggles softly despite his grim little parable.]

My face was the very last thing he saw before he choked on his own blood. My only regret... is that he went rather quickly at the end.

You'll have to convince me first, of course. There are, after all, many ways to define nicely.

[ The feelings are quite mutual, Max. But Helios knows in the back of his mind that this can't be real, that it isn't real. And it hurts knowing that and his expression might reveal some of that pain for but a flicker of a moment, before he turns back towards the village. ]

That's exactly right! Having the basics down gives you the, ah, foundations of most elemental and combative magics. There's always the creative part as well.

I've only celebrated it with Yuuna, at home. As a bit of a joke It's a Western holiday, anyway.

[He catches that, that second of hurt and it makes something clench in his chest, freezing him for a moment. Part of him wants to somehow promise that it's fine, really, and whatever it is, it won't hurt again.

Even now though, he knows he can't promise that and he can't bring himself to outright lie like that.

He heads closer when Helios turns, following after him, hands shoved into his pockets, and maybe he stands just a little closer than he normally might.]

Oh, creative is good. I'm good at creative. [There are no rules or written guides for the spells he most commonly uses after all.] This is a real help. Not keen on feeling so vulnerable.
