As previously stated, decent casting sand is hard to secure. But I've been checking every day. I swear.

[ a little powerhouse of dedication, even before the shift had muddled her priorities. ]

[Again, a faint smile appears briefly on his face. Buffy's dedication was rather endearing.] Are you sure you will be able to find any of it? It is not something you will need to request from the Organization?

[herotypical]

Giles had some. Last time he was here.

[ ... ] But if I can't swing any by the end of next week, it's not a bad idea.

[ normally, she would be very hesitant to spend her points on such a thing. but today--

well, the cause feels valid. ]

[chikaidestroyer]

[He shakes his head.] I have a feeling this will be a rather distracting week or two, so do not impose a deadline upon yourself, Buffy.

[He lifts his left arm, turning it slightly so his gloved palm is facing upward.] I can manage.

[Somehow, he had still managed after all this time. Even as the curse very slowly ate its way across his arm. The curse was never bound to his forearm even with Raine's help, bleeding onto the back of his hand and encasing his elbow.]

Shush -- [ she implores, finally finding that smile. ] We have a saying on Jolly Old Earth. Pressure? Makes diamonds. And diamonds are a girl's best friend. So....what I'm trying to say is...

[chikaidestroyer]

[A raises a brow at the shush, then nods with a slight frown. Strange, how he had come to accept the comfort of these women in his life. It was a luxury he had gone without in his own world for the longest time.]

[ buffy winks. a warm, friendly gesture -- accompanied by a wry quirk of her lips. ]

Remember, Albert. I got your back. And maybe possibly your front. But -- in this case? Mostly your arm. Ooor also your stomach, if you'll gimme a sec to grab a book and then walk me to Seventh Heaven to share a stack of pancakes?

[chikaidestroyer]

[The wink causes his frown to ease up a bit, and he blinks at her offer to eat breakfast with her. He can't deny that the offer to spend more time with her is quite appealing.]

Certainly. If you will be busy for a moment, I can head to the tea shop and see if anyone is there.

[herotypical]

[ buffy is surprised -- and ashamed -- by how far it feels the pit of her stomach drops away in disappointment when he suggests breaking company. the slayer hadn't realized just how much desire she had riding on that co-walk. but she steels herself and keeps wearing her smile and... ]

R-right. That sounds perfectly natural. We can even just, y'know, meet there. On our own time.

[ she's horrified to learn, in turn, that there's a decent portion of her more than willing to wait for albert's departure, skip the final leg of her chore, and race to the restaurant just to be sure she wouldn't be late for him. ]

[It's harder to walk away than he thought it would be, and that leaves him somewhat confused as he makes his way from the library to the tea shop. He had never denied the thought that Buffy was attractive, and they did seem to have a certain misfortune when it came to some experiments...

His lips twitch into a thoughtful frown as he reaches the tea shop, even though he is relieved to see everything is going well. He could take a break (he rarely did at this hour, but it wasn't unheard of), which is all he has to hear to go straight out the door again and over to the restaurant.

He doesn't quite run to Seventh Heaven, but his stride is purposeful in a way it usually is not within the village.]

My apologies. Were you waiting long?

[herotypical]

[ buffy has been waiting ever since he'd left the library. oh, certainly, she'd plucked up another book or two and made a half-hearted effort to flutter through their pages. but she hadn't been able to smother the urge to check her watch, nor glance outside, nor let her mind wander to wonder just how albert silverberg might take his pancakes. does he even like pancakes? buffy finds herself eager to learn.

she had also rushed. effervescent, she'd alerted today's staff that she would indeed be waiting upon company.

and so when said company arrives, she glances up from a coffee mug that is so close to empty that it betrays her nervous white lie: ] Barely. Not long at all. Just got here, actually.

[ she points a cocky little finger gun at the seat across from her, feeling concerned that she would sound too eager if she voiced the invitation aloud. ]

[chikaidestroyer]

[He cannot quite see how empty Buffy's mug is, but he can tell from his angle that it is at least halfway empty. As he sinks into the seat that Buffy had pointed at, he gives her a smile. He already felt better than a moment ago, simply being here with her.]

Do you make it a habit to eat breakfast here?

[herotypical]

...Nah. Not really. [ a nervous smile. as if she's somehow self-conscious of describing her personal habits. ] Only if I'm already out and about or it's a weekend or...

[ she plucks at the handle of her mug. more often than not, she and jack made breakfast together. but she doesn't want to articulate that domestic fact to albert. ]

Or if it's a special occasion.

[The way she pauses before finishing her thought seemed rather telling. But Albert found himself unable to commit to the thought that she was implying something; it was not as if there had been some kind of special occasion mentioned. Just breakfast between ... acquaintances. Allies. He wasn't even sure if she saw him as a friend.]

I do not eat out much myself. Not here, at least. [Did drinking at the tea shop count as eating out? Probably not.]

[herotypical]

In that case? You are so letting me order for you. Put your rookie-dining self in my very capable and experienced hands.

[ nice words, buffy. ]

[chikaidestroyer]

[He raises a brow at the use of 'rookie' and 'experienced,' but nonetheless nods his assent.]

I should warn you in advance that I am not much for overly sweet dishes. [He could eat them, certainly, but he didn't enjoy them.]

Bacon, then. And eggs. Spiced hashbrowns. Or -- how do you feel about omelettes? Y'know, when you kinda dump it all together? It's all going to the same place, anyway.

In any case, we can leave the whipped cream and waffles to me.

[His lips lift at the options Buffy presents, and he tilts his head thoughtfully.]

It's been a long while since I had an omelet that I did not make myself. Are there different options?

[herotypical]

I think the options mostly come in either veggie or...carnal. [ ... ] I mean, carnivore. Carnivorous. Meat. Lots of meat.

[chikaidestroyer]

[...The brow goes up again at that slip of the tongue, but this time in amusement.]

Meat. Of course.

[herotypical]

Ham. Bacon -- which is really just less healthy ham. Maybe steak, if you're lucky.

[chikaidestroyer]

I would almost say chicken, but it seems redundant when there is already some form of chicken involved. [...] Unless they carry duck eggs.

[herotypical]

...Do duck eggs taste different?

[chikaidestroyer]

Not particularly. They have a ... studier quality. [He snorts in faint amusement.] Though I suppose that point is moot with an omelet.

It's just...I think about a duck, right? And then I think that I really don't wanna eat anything come out of a creature so vile and cantankerous as that.
