Yes, I was. Though perhaps a bit too well, with how long I overslept... [Why, he'd almost be late for school if he weren't playing hooky this week to avoid experiments!]

Did I already miss everyone for breakfast?

Perhaps it's a good thing then, with how tired you seem lately. [Something says she should be chastising him more, but she just can't bring herself to do it with how happy she is to see him moving on his own right now.]

I'm afraid everyone has already eaten, but if you're willing to wait a little I could prepare breakfast for you. [That sounded like a good idea, actually.]

I would really like that! Thank you, Tear. [He'll stand and wait for her to get up before moving at all. He's aware that his manner of walking this week is noticeably different, and he already has Anise worried. He just needed to wait out the experiment, and then he could focus more on finding a way to get better... hopefully.]

I really didn't mean to sleep in as late as I did. But if I'm not going to school, there's little point in forcing myself to be up earlier than my body wants to be.

It's no trouble. [She stands almost as soon as Ion does, making her way to the kitchen so she could get started right away. Maybe he would have more of an appetite than usual, if he had slept for so long. Now should she actually heat up the leftovers, or perhaps make something new...?]

There's little point to yourself up earlier if your body feels it needs it, is there? I'm sure Raine would understand if you would tell her whenever such incidents occur.

[It's only once she's past him that he hobbles behind her, quickly pulling up a chair by the kitchen table to sit in. He does feel a little better from having slept so long, but even just walking down the stairs has tired him out.]

I'm sure she would, but she might also think it best I stop coming until I feel well enough to wake up on time. I don't even like having to skip this week, to be honest... [School is the best thing ever!!]

You're right, hopefully you can return before long and the experiment affecting the village passes quickly. [She's already setting up the table for him as she looks over her shoulder, wanting to keep him in her vision as much as she could.]

Is there something you would like in particular? Even if we don't have it I can run to the grocery to pick up the ingredients. [Because Ion needs to be spoiled this morning, clearly.]

I hope so, too. [Even if he wasn't affected, it was an unpleasant reminder of everything going on in his life recently to see the whole village about and in love. Just the one day spent outside was more than enough...]

Oh, and you don't need to go to so much trouble. [Especially not that much trouble.] If there's anything left from this morning, that would be fine.

You're sure? [If it's for Ion, it would hardly be any trouble! But if she were fully in her right mind she wouldn't have asked again to make sure like she just did.]

There's some leftover toast, but I think you would need more than that.

[Leftover toast is probably all he'd be able to eat with his appetite, but if she's asking, maybe there isn't too much left... or she's worried he won't be eating enough. Which is, by all means, a valid concern in this case.]

Well... I suppose some scrambled eggs would go along well with that?

Then I'll get to it right away, it shouldn't take long. [Hardly even ten minutes, if that as she gets to making the food right away. The toast would already be on a platter set on the table, so Ion could grab some now if he wanted.]

[He'll munch a little on one of the slices there, hoping to kickstart his appetite a little. He wouldn't want to make her go to the trouble cooking something for him only to not eat it!]

Yes, that's right. I didn't actually expect to be able to avoid the experiment in this way, but so far, I think it's been working. Either that or I was just lucky enough to be unaffected by coincidence...

[She wouldn't even be upset if he didn't eat it all, but it would definitely bring the worry she's had about him to light.]

Let's hope it's the latter, shall we? [She hasn't forgotten what happened between them last year. The thought is enough to warm her cheeks.] It's still terrible of them to use the holiday to exploit everyone as they do.

[Yes, In could do without a reminder of what happened last year, tyvm. In fact, after what happened on Christmas Eve, he could do without an encore of that this year as well.]

I agree. It's a shame, really. From what I've heard and read about in books, it's actually supposed to be a rather nice holiday in some worlds.

So they say, I wonder what it would normally entail. [She's tried to not get too caught up in researching the holiday, lest she be overtaken by embarrassment in the middle of the library.
