[Even if he wonders curiously in which way she can relate, he decides against asking -- at least, for the time being.]

...Always does. [He opts to use a fork, inviting her to help herself first.]

[She'd answer if asked, of course.

But she picks up her chopsticks and grabs up a dumpling, neatly dipping it and taking a bite. The warm, savory flavor makes her smile, and she somehow manages to keep any juice from trickling down her lips.

Somehow.]

It's good! Eat!
bionically: (You did good)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-18 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to tell me twice.

[Spearing a dumpling, he does without the sauce (blasphemy!) and finishes it in two juicy bites, but not without taking the time to savour the flavour. God, he's forgotten just how addictive these can be.]

Just as good as I remember it. [Turns out he’s hungrier than he had thought. It’s easy to want to wolf down his share, but as not to put off his company with a display of poor manners, he furthers the conversation to help pace himself. Besides, this is just the appetizer.]

How long’ve you been around here, anyway? You seem pretty well-adjusted. [He has to wonder how he has never noticed her before. Oh well, better late than never.]
windandrain: (Peace)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-18 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Saori doesn't comment on his foreign ways, because he's handsome and she's fairly muddled by that fact. Her eyes close and she takes a second, slowly chewing and nodding all the while, glad for such good, familiar food with interesting company.]

This is my...goodness, my seventh month here. I guess that is a while, isn't it? I haven't really thought about it much.

[It's all kind of an eyeblink to someone with an eternity ahead of them after all.]
bionically: (Come again?)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-18 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[He, on the other hand, feels every day from start to finish, keenly aware that he is something that doesn’t belong in this world. Not having war on his mind affords him the time to think, and more than he would like.]

It is. Guess you've been enjoying yourself? [Well, relatively speaking. She had been here longer than himself and surely had lived through quite a few more shifts.]
windandrain: (Flirty)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-19 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, not everyone can see the world like she does]

I have and I haven't. Some of the shifts have been painful, and the draft was like something I've never dreamed of. But some have been nice, and the last few months have been reasonably pleasant.

When did you arrive?
bionically: (Touch)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well… I’m glad you’ve enjoyed some peace and quiet lately.

[He feels compelled on a whim to reach out and touch her wrist in a quietly reassuring gesture, letting his hand rest there for just a moment.]

I was dropped off back in November. But it’s been feeling longer these days.

[Being laid up in bed with a healing lung will do that.]
windandrain: (Best start running)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-19 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I am too.

[She doesn't flinch away or move, but she doesn't return the gesture yet. Not that she's uncomfortable, just that it doesn't seem entirely proper to return it so easily.]

November? I'm surprised we haven't met until now then. [Because she'd definitely notice a handsome man...]

Why do they feel longer?
bionically: (neutral)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-19 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's left wondering, briefly, if she feels the same when the gesture goes unreciprocated, but he nonetheless doesn't regret having taken the initiative and carries on without missing a beat.]

Better late than never. [The corner of his mouth tugs into a smile.] ...I've been recovering from an injury. Hard not to feel a little stir-crazy when I'm used to running through training simulations on a daily basis.
windandrain: (Despondant)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-20 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Sorry Spencer, she takes things very slow...]

Yes, this is so. [A shy smile follows] Oh? What happened? Did someone...?
bionically: (With Joe)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-20 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[He answers truthfully, looking to ease the concern. Barring the odd one or two conversations that had elicited a raised eyebrow, he's enjoyed genuinely nice interactions here with others; hell, it feels a bit like a dream-land in that regard. There's bound to be a crouching jerk, hidden asshole somewhere around here, he figures. Where there were people there would be personality clashes.

Let's just say it's the result of an error in judgment on my part and some rotten luck. [Taking up his fork again, he stabs at another dumpling.] It was about as fun as it sounds.
windandrain: (Careful...)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-20 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well.

[She looks a lot happier now that she doesn't have to go find the hidden asshole and kick it in.

And now her hand does reciprocate, slipping around to return the gesture of affection.]

At least you're alright.

[Lets change the topic, this is going to get weird]

What do you do at home, Nathan?
bionically: (neutral)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-20 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[And he's grateful for the subject to have been redirected, her touch acknowledged with the presence of a faint and fleeting smile. Her question's answered evenly and without missing a beat.]

I'm a soldier. Only just got back from a mission that could have meant the end of the FSA had it gone sour. [He takes a bite, chewing thoughtfully. ...You?

[If he had to guess, perhaps she's an art or music teacher. Is he warm?]
windandrain: (I should explain huh?)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-20 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Saori nods quickly. She'd guessed he was a soldier of some sort. He had the build for it, and that arm spoke of soldier-y things...]

Me?

[For a second, she's not sure how to phrase it. Would him knowing she's a god scare him away? Possibly. So, she'll go with the safe answer. The normal one.]

I'm a delivery girl, for Takamatsu's Kuro-Neko parcel service.
bionically: (Neutral profile)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-20 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[...cute. He caught that brief pause preceding her response, chalking it up to some sort of unease. Embarrassment, maybe.]

How's that treating you?
windandrain: (Easy smile)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-20 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs, glad he's not questioning it just yet]

It pays the bills. I don't mind so much, it's nice, lots of fresh air, really. My roommate, she's a nurse, so we have plenty of money. It's a quiet life, for sure.
bionically: (Come again?)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Too quiet for a fellow like himself, he muses. But, different strokes, of course.]

If you’re pretty happy with what you do, then that counts for something. Not a lot of people can say that about their work.
windandrain: (Contemplation)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-21 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Are you happy with your work, Nathan?

[nom]
bionically: (Neutral profile)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-21 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well… [He heaves a light sigh, thoughtful.] Don’t get me wrong. I’m not exactly happy there was a war to fight in the first place, and I’d gladly take the smell of coffee over napalm in the morning. But being out there fighting… is what feels right. And I'm more grateful than I know how to express for the chance to continue to serve.

[It’s something Emily had been unable to wrap her head around.]

Some people might say it’s my calling, I guess. It makes what I do seem more special than it is. For me, it’s just my duty - it's something I need to do.

[He surfaces from his thoughts, blinking, and wonders absently if she understands what he means to some extent. It would be alright if she didn't.]
windandrain: (Best start running)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-21 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Saori...actually sort of giggles, openly and without any reservation anymore. She knew she liked you.]

I can understand that feeling. Doing what you were meant to do. What I do is what I was born to do. And if you think you need to do it, then you need to do it. And I'm sure that your countrymen are grateful for you doing that duty.
bionically: (I still love her; solemnly looking down)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-21 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He’s surprised, unsure what to think at first when she laughs a little (however adorably) despite the solemn subject at hand – and for a fleeting moment he wonders if being a delivery girl is what she feels she was born to do.]

Thanks.

[He can’t remember what contributed to him expecting her to think him crazy and impulsive for risking life and limb time and time again, but he feels awash in a strange sort of relief that they are on the same wavelength.]

Do you see yourself being a delivery girl a few years from now?

[His tone is one of mild curiosity rather than being teasingly mocking.
Edited (welp, forgot something) 2013-02-21 16:26 (UTC)
windandrain: (How Cute!)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-21 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[She really doesn't, but then again he doesn't know the full truth, does he? Danger and impulse are fun, and they make for a more interesting life. Besides, he's handsome...]

Of course. I don't know what else I'd do, honestly.

[Really, she does actually like driving the truck and dropping off packages. It's a little strange for a god to do, but it's fun, and the fresh air is good. And packages make people smile, which is something fun too.]

It's not about the money, and it's a way for me to make people happy. I think that's what's important.
bionically: (Wise-ass; Bring it)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[He purses his lips, nodding. If that’s what gives her her jollies, all the power to her.]

…Cute. [Well it IS.] Wouldn’t mind if a delivery girl like you swung by my place to deliver packages.
windandrain: (HIGHLY amused)

[personal profile] windandrain 2013-02-22 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[That, more than anything draws a laugh. She's never, ever had someone say something like that to her.]

And I'd be happy to snerk deliver them!
bionically: (A little smile)

[personal profile] bionically 2013-02-22 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a playfully raunchy joke hovering in the air that he leaves unstated. Maybe in a few weeks' time, he thinks, the circumstances would be such that he'd reconsider. But he's in no hurry now and won't jump to conclusions. An amiable lunch with a sweet-smiling woman suits him just fine.]

Maybe one of these days, huh?

[Just a little teasing. Speaking of which, that appetizer was a tease, his gyoza having come and gone too soon. They always do. He'll be polishing off his cup of coffee while she enjoys her share.]
