No. Not in three years or so...

[ She blinks and looks downward in contemplation as well, before amending oh-so-helpfully: ]

-- Well, I'm sure there's some left, but... yeah.

[stillplaying]

[She blinks, both confused and surprised. Three years? Some left? She's not certain that she understands at all. Because what she's imagining now is, in some ways, a place worse than Panem. A place where there is no music.]

Why?

[ Oh yeah, good going, Serah. She blinks, then gives a small sigh at herself as her shoulders drop- for throwing something so complicated out there for a stranger's ears when... ]

It's-- kind of a long story.

[stillplaying]

[She gave a shrug in return. Whether or not it was a long story, she didn't really care all that much. Katniss was curious, yes, but the girl was a complete stranger. She wasn't going to pry. Wasn't going to say or do much in the way of friendliness. Not today.

If the girl wanted to share the story, she'd listen. If not, she more than understood.]

[ Katniss' silence causes a moment or two of uncertainty on Serah's part, a soft frown as she rocks her weight from one foot to the other. Should she say more or shouldn't she?

Eventually she settles on a 'no,' at least for the immediate present. Instead she again looks back in the direction of the door, considering, before- ]

I... take it you're kind of hiding from everyone else too, huh?

[ ... Please make that a yes. Serah's not sure she can handle the awkwardness otherwise, fff... ]

[The subject change comes a little abruptly in Katniss' opinion but she doesn't question it too much. She can understand not wanting to talk about your past or where you came from. It could be difficult. Especially to open up to a total stranger.

So she nods. No reason not to answer this question. The answer's obvious anyway. Not too many people would pick a dark corner to practice their music. Not unless they were hiding.]

Yeah. You, too?

[ She wouldn't have changed the topic at all had she been able to think of a way to segue into it all more smoothly. So far, it seems to her that everyone else's experiences are so foreign in comparison to hers that she doesn't even know where to start.

And trapping someone in a tale that relies on knowledge of the history of her world in general, going up into godlike beings trying to kill those they'd taken care of for centuries, reality becoming unstable as a result...!

She smiles a touch wryly, brows shifting towards each other sympathetically. ]

Afraid so. [ A soft huff. ] I'm definitely already engaged, so...

[stillplaying]

[Lips twitch into a disgruntled frown at the word engaged. She had been engaged once, even if it had been just a lie. A ruse to convince President Snow that the stunt with the berries had been real. That they had been madly in love.

Would Peeta have eventually proposed to her for real if he had actually stayed in Luceti? Would they have become something more than just girlfriend and boyfriend? Would she have said said yes if he had asked her to be his wife?

This is what she hates most about this shift. It's gotten her to think about Peeta too, too much.]

The Gamemakers don't care about that. [She rolls her eyes.] They don't care about anything except fulfilling their own experiments.

[changethepast]

[ Did she say something wrong...? Of course, Serah's already figured out that this girl's mood seems to have put this interaction on thin ice. She's trying to keep from doing anything awkward, but...

Her expression finally fades from the smile she's been so carefully attempting to keep up, returning to the mild uncertainty that had been there before, when she'd accidentally gotten to talking about-- why things like stringed instruments are so rare after the fall of Cocoon. ]

Yeah... so I've heard.

[stillplaying]

[She doesn't attempt to soften her expression, to make herself seem any more approachable. She's still thinking about Peeta, still wondering if the Malnosso would have been so cruel as to make her fall in love with another if he had still been here.

Probably.

Damn them all.

Still, she looks up at the other girl and shrugs a little.] It's probably the most important thing to remember here.
