[Friends? That...was unexpected, even with this experiment affecting his mind. It had been quite a while since he called someone such a thing. He gave another gentle smile, nodding.]

Sure! I don't mind being friends with you, um...[He blinks, realizing something.] We...never introduced ourselves, have we?

[Oh.

They didn't.]

I'm Naoki, Naoki Kashima. It's a pleasure to know you now, Raven.

Mmh. [It's a mutual pleasure. She just can't figure out why. And she can't help but ask:] Why? Why do you want to be friends with me?

I sense something in you that's familiar to me. Your story reminds me of my own in a way, and I can't help but wish to be by your side and help you.

[He stood on his path alone, save for the demons with him. Having friends really would help, especially if she thought she was cursed.]

What you are telling me right now I mean. Maybe life would have been a better word for it.

No. [And she shakes her head, cursing her own inability to get her point across.] Yours. What makes them the same?

Oh that. [He scratches the back of his head. Well, she told him some of her life, it was only fair. He just didn't like talking about it. Harder than one may think, as the frown may indicate.]

Well, maybe not exactly the same. I mean I was a human once, about to get out of high school. Like I said before, I lost my parents the year before, and all I had to me was my teacher and my two friends.I wasn't the most outspoken person either, so forming bonds was hard.

Now, remember the cultist I mentioned earlier? He ruined whatever peaceful life I could have forged. He brought on the Conception, basically the end of the world. All humans save for my friends, Hikawa, Hijiri, a reporter, and my teacher, were all instantly killed. What was formed was a world filled with demons. Cerberus here is just one of the millions of demons that were born into the world.

During that, I became what you see before you: a hybrid of demon and human, a Demi-Fiend. It's only because of this body I can endure everything thrown at me.

[He hears Cerberus growl. Naoki frowns, scratching the back of his head.] Him too, along with other demons.

To make a long story very short, Hikawa wanted to create a new world, and I was so focused on stopping him and reverting the damage, I...I lost my friends. [He stared back at the hand that was still on Raven's, the memories not bringing out good things in him.] Whoever they were, they changed.

[In the worst possible way.]

[That was a lot of words. More than she's used to - and things she doesn't quite understand, like what a 'high school' is.

Something sticks out though.]

So you're...half of one thing, and half of another...

[He nods.]

Pretty much. I've been told my body is completely demon now, but my heart remains human. Considering how my so-called friends turned insane when they were humans, I'm wondering if having that human heart is good or bad.

[But the humans here were reminding him of the good at least.]

...Humans are okay. They can change, if they want to. Some monsters are too stubborn.

[Some humans are also too stubborn. Raven shuts up immediately when someone comes to take their lunch order...but doesn't pull her hand away.]

I'm hoping my experience here in this world can make me see that in full.

[He was about to speak when the waiter finally came up. Huh, he was wondering when they would show. His hand doesn't move either, mind focused back on food.]

I guess I'll have some chicken katsu with some rice. And Cerberus will just have the usual.

[The usual being a large amount of meat, and said waiter seemed to know that much, writing everything down. He turned to Raven, already ready to write down her order.]

[Okay. He didn't know. There was no reason to take weird offense at Naoki ordering chicken.

But she did. Just a little bit. For reasons she couldn't even explain to him. Half-mumbling, she orders a fish sandwich.]

[The waiter takes note of that, and when he leaves, Naoki finally speaks up. He sensed something was off.]

Something wrong?

[A very abrupt shake of her head.]

No. Nothing.

Alright, if you say so...

[It's stupid. But, like eating fish in front of Pia - well okay no. It's not that bad.]

It's fine.

[He was about to ask if she was a vegitarian, but then again, she ordered fish. Obviously not it. Ah well.]

So, about being here, how long have you been in this world anyway?

Not even a year. ...It feels like longer.

If things can be a bit peaceful, I suppose time would slow down.

I'm used to a different kind of year.

[The food arrives, and despite warming up to Naoki, Raven is grateful for the distraction. This much talk is tiring.]

[Food arriving, Naoki was able to realize he was still holding onto her hand. He let go off course, going straight for the chicken and rice given to him. Cerberus in the mean time had gone a bit away from the two, tearing into the pork pile given to him with his ferocious fangs.]

[Raven takes her time with her sandwich, never one to rush through a meal. Naoki gave her a lot to think about - and like with most other things, Raven likes quiet while she eats, so she doesn't initiate conversation.]

[She wouldn't have to worry about him talking either, as he was more invested in eating. He is thankfully calmer this time around, unlike his first time, which involved him savagely tearing through his food; to be expected when the finest delicacy in his food was expired junk food. This was one of the few times he didn't mind acting more like his old self, that human self. Felt good overall.]
