Mission #13 - Historic Route Six-to-Four

Who: Jack Holden, Silver, Leonhardt, Jack Sparrow, Serah Farron, Shikamaru, Haru Glory, Hyuuga Neji, Albert Silverberg, Helios Sprensonne, Saori, and Kotetsu.
What: Mission #13: Historic Route Six-to-Four
When: February 27th - March 2nd
Where: Along Route Six-to-Four
Summary: A routine transport mission goes awry when the cultists attack and a game of dreams begins.
Rating: Whatever 300 was rated, tbh

Departure

As noted on the mission briefer, this will take over the course of four days. The first two hours of the mission will be loading up the caravan and taking their assigned positions once it hits the road. This segment will be entirely hand waved. If you want to use this thread to establish some brief greets and exchange of names among characters, that’s fine, but the Malnosso will keep the workers too busy to do anything more than exchange pleasantries.

Four hours into their road trip, the caravan will suddenly come to a grinding halt as they pass through a shaded forest. Suddenly the lead vehicle will ring out with an explosion as it goes flying off the road and on fire. Fortunately, none of the volunteers were permitted to be on the lead vehicle, but it does spell trouble from the group. With the sound a war horn, the caravan is suddenly descended on by winged assailants. The security forces equipped to the caravan rush to mount a defense, but the cultists are cleverly able to use the forest to their advantage to launch their attacks. From four points around the caravan, Shifters take up position and block the powers and technology of all present.

And then the General steps onto the battlefield. The battle commences as the MSF draw their blades. The volunteers and other workers enter the fray as well in what looks like a hopeless battle. But before any conclusion can be had for either side, there’s a flash of bright light and everything goes dark.

Please use the plotting post for any questions!

....

His frown deepens, but despite the tremble in his legs still present from the dream-scape, he's particularly determined to do exactly what the General says. He wipes at his face and meets the General's stare with a fiery one. "How do I save 'em?" How the hell does he enter dreams, exactly...? How the hell did the General manage it?

"The Shifters holding them are not permitted within my dream. So you need only kneel by them, place your hand upon their head. Gaze upon their face until you have memorized every detail. Only then will you be drawn into their endless nightmare."

Already he was choosing his next target to save among the sleeping bodies.

... Right. He moves to the side of one of the sleeping figures, hand hovering like he's encroaching very volatile ground (he is). It's Shikamaru, unaware he's dreaming, stuck in some other faraway place. He faintly recalls the boy; doesn't know him all that well, but he seemed trustworthy. Smart.

"I remember you. You made that Vaskoth entry on the journals, huh? Really pissed me off a little, too; it was still really tender to talk about, y'know? Couldn't even bring myself to complain at ya'." He sighs scratching at his brow for a moment. How does one just... enter a dream? He ignores The General in his peripheral to consider this.

...

"Right."

He puts his hand at the side of Shikamaru's head and smiles pathetically.

"... Sorry for being so weird, naa...?"

Shikamaru. Japanese kid. Weird pine-apple hairdo. Serious expressions, most of the time.

"--but I can't watch you guys die."

Before the mission went crazy, he saw directness and dryness he'd see in someone like Barnaby. His frown deepens, and yeah, he knows he's talking to someone who can't hear. It's stupid. Whatever.

No time to be miserable. For now, he's determined.

"... I'm not gonna let you die out there."

He's gonna find him; soon, he's drawn into the nightmare.
