This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

Did you know it wasn't going to work?

[biliruben]

"I knew it wouldn't send you home. Of course, if I thought it had, I would have been there to help you myself."

So you just wanted to watch us fail.

[biliruben]

"No. I wanted you to watch you fail."

[alloys]

Oh, that made him mad. He hated the idea that the only reason he'd been allowed to work on this project for months was so he could fail at it. He would take everything Bil said with a grain of salt, but Tony did little to hide a scowl as he wrote out his response.

But it worked. We left Luceti.

"You didn't leave Luceti, Mr. Stark. You exposed yourself to everything outside it. A Natural Shift. You should count yourself lucky you only lost your voice."

Lucky. Good one. He started onto a fresh page.

So we got past the barrier. How does that not qualify as leaving Luceti?

"You escaped the barrier's influence, not its confines. In a sense, you made a bubble inside of a larger bubble."

[alloys]

It sounded ridiculous, but the explanation was congruous with what Billy had said he felt with his magic. Like they were nowhere. A space between spaces.

He didn't like the idea that he had to believe what Bil was saying.

So it halfway worked.

"If you wish to be generous, then yes. I'd be more inclined to put it at ten percent. Six, perhaps."

[alloys]

An unconcealed eyeroll. He'd had just about enough of this. But he had one more thing to ask.

You can cancel out the natural Shifts outside the barrier. So why can't you fix us?

[biliruben]

"I can fix you, with the right equipment. But you are not my responsibility anymore, Mr. Stark. But if you must know, it was decided not to fix your problem. Not yet." He leaned forward, elbows on the table.

"You did this to yourself. We are not required to help you, though eventually we certainly will. But for now, you must live with it, as the rest of us do when similar fates befall us."

His eyes narrowed. So, they were being punished, in a sense. Tony felt his blood boiling, heat rising on his skin.

I'm not your responsibility anymore?

[biliruben]

"I'm not in charge of the organization anymore. Or much of anything, really. You're someone else's responsibility now."

[alloys]

Then why are you here?

[biliruben]

"I was visiting the Commandant."

[alloys]

And us.

[biliruben]

"A bonus. I wasn't aware you'd be here until after I'd made the journey."

[alloys]

A bonus. How fortuitous. Tony stood. He was done here.
