I would appreciate it, if you have the time. There's a lot to go through, and I want to be sure that everyone gets one. It was a lot easier to do when we were all assigned rooms.
reminded: (Aha... Yes...)

[He takes a seat across from her and looks over the array of items. It looks like a lot to stuff into a little pack, but if there was ever a man with a talent for fitting an absurd amount of things into small spaces, it is this man.]

Assigned rooms sound heavenly. I'm never one to demand luxury, but these arrangements are a bit much.
wise_maiden: (listen up and take notes)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-03-29 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's been a while since we've been afforded that sort of luxury. We're lucky we even had more than a day's notice with the way things have been lately.
reminded: (s'all cool)

Yes, Mr. Silverberg said as much. Should I be grateful we have as much as we do now? Perhaps we'll have grass for beds somewhere down the line.

Don't wish that on us. [She smiles, but shakes her head at the tease.] Supposedly the commandant doesn't believe in favoritism, so everyone gets stuck with the same detail, which is fair enough in one way, just less appealing once you've been treated to pampering.

[Despite how cluttered the area looks, Raine seems to be a rather effective bagger herself, as she finishes closing off another pack.]
reminded: (Let's have a look.)

[He smiles and taps the nearest bit of wood with two fingers, then returns to finding how all of the item shapes fit together inside his first pack.]

In short, we're spoiled. I suppose I've always known, but never fully realized it. Perhaps it would be prudent of me to send someone a fruit basket in gratitude when we return.

You could always say hello to the blue man over there - [A vague gesture in the direction of where Bil had last been seen.] Bil, or Sir Catherine, or whatever he wants to be called - used to be the one who showered our little enclosure with comforts before he was ultimately deposed.
reminded: (That's right.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-03-30 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think I just might. [He doesn't look like he's in a hurry to chase after the man, though, and instead zips his pouch closed. As he grabs the next, he adds in a tone of mild interest:] Why is the man blue?
wise_maiden: (a closer look at the situation)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-03-30 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
If it's not something natural from his home world, I'd say it's more likely the result of a shift that... persisted even after his revival. But I haven't asked, personally. Perhaps you might?
reminded: (handchin)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-03-30 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. Though I suppose I should be careful not to let my curiosity overcome my manners. [He shakes his head lightly. He'll have to see when the time comes.]

Where do you plan to be when the operation begins?
wise_maiden: (thought i'd never find the words)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-03-30 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
My only real plan is to try and be where I'm needed on the battle lines. Our forces have a habit of scattering around, leaving me unable to help them in time.
reminded: (Hm...)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-03-30 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's realizing that he doesn't know very much regarding Raine's more non-curricular abilities.]

You'll be acting as a fighter, then? I confess it's difficult to envision you on the front lines.
wise_maiden: (thankful for small favors)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-03-30 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant more in the role of support with my magic and healing artes. Although if things get too hectic I might just have to fall back to wherever our base camp ends up being.

[He nods, relaxing almost imperceptibly.]

Is your magic very potent? I've found it difficult to gauge the strength of a healing spell without the proper injuries to measure them by... which sounds overly clinical of me, I realize.

wise_maiden: (why are you lecturing me)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-02 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say I'm not entirely certain how to answer that. I have a variety of abilities, but as always it does depend on the severity of an injury, and how much my efforts can speed up the healing process and stabilize their wounds. I can heal bones, but if there's too much blood loss involved, there won't be much I can do by then.

[It's more that she's modest about her abilities. That at least is something one could tell by a slight shift in her tone.]
reminded: (That's right.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-04-02 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, knowing that his question was a bit broad. He knows and assumes very little about magic, and there are times when he isn't quite sure how to discuss it.]

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried mixing your healing artes with Nala's healing magic?
wise_maiden: (the space between)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-02 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I had to learn how to do that early on, when the barrier had a more dampening effect on what I was able to accomplish, though in a way I've been able to learn more about my own magic as well. While there are no such limits here, any magic that we learned from the spirits tends to draw Shift Hunters, so I try to avoid utilizing those skills unless it's necessary.
reminded: (I think I'm beginning to see...)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-04-03 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. So there is a fundamental difference between your magic and filial magic. Have you been able to discern exactly what that is? For instance, I know that magic in Auldrant is tied to the concept of fonons, which seems to be a concept largely unique to that world.

[With all these questions, he should probably just attend magic class already.]

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-04 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
You'd hear a lot more if you poked your head into magic discussions more often. [A wry look.] But yes, that is correct. My world relies on mana for its source, and the magic is tied into that. There's a theory that the healing artes are based on another force, although we haven't quite gotten the answer as to what that is yet. Only half-written theories, lost long ago.
reminded: (That concludes the lecture.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-04-04 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He returns her look with a helpless smile and a little shrug. Someday, perhaps, he'll feel less like magic has nothing at all to do with him.]

Then your mana or some equivalent of it is present here as well. In theory, would I be able to learn your type of healing magic -- your artes?
wise_maiden: (through so many splintered trees)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That is an interesting question. Healing artes have been less... selective to learn, though not everyone can pick up the ability either. However, mana is present in the atmosphere here, but your body isn't exactly infused with it... and trying could very well end up hurting you. It's not like the magic we have access to here, because anyone at all seems to be able to pick that up.
reminded: (That's right.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-04-08 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks thoughtfully at a med pack as he finishes it and sets it aside.]

I'm not too surprised. A shame, though. Filial magic is more limited than I'd like it to be.
wise_maiden: (looking for the truth behind those eyes)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-10 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
If Shift Hunters were not a factor, it would be incredibly useful out here. It's not bound to spells, unlike most magic, though then you'd have to put more concentration into what you expect out of it.
