This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

[He eyes the others around them, feeling all of a sudden lost like he's never been. He takes his shirt out from under the flak jacket in the bundle he has and pulls it over his head.]

The world's mad with war and we got sucked into it again. You, me, Chouji, Katara, a lot of us. We're up on some Malnosso floating fortress before we deploy sometime tomorrow to the actual battlefield.

[He says this with a morosely poetic sort of whimsy in his voice. He doesn't even know for sure if he recognizes him or not]

[Another war? Not the best thing you could put in a genjutsu. All of it's more familiar than it should be at the same time, even the names.]

Who's in charge?

Iunnno, probably that woman with the eyepatch we've seen sometimes?

[With a shrug]

[The Commandant, his brain supplies, and he ignores that too is familiar.]

Shouldn't there be divisions and platoons also? There has to be a clear line of command.

[generalflirt]

Yeah, I'm sure there are, with the security forces. But we're conscripts.

[With an eyebrow arch, even]

[He stares for a long moment, then eventually lifts a hand to knead at his forehead. He sounds both resigned and irritated at once when he sighs.]

Right...

If you want, you can be the boss.

[Lightly, rocking on his heels]

Don't joke, Masaomi.

[generalflirt]

Who's joking. [And then he tosses the pokeball with Rhydon in it at Shikamaru's face]

[He catches it before it can get an inch from his face, adrenaline-charged reflex. Looking at the object in his hand, he can kind of remember...]

This isn't like home. I'm not fit. I don't remember much about anyone in this room save for you, much less the strategies for fighting this kind of enemy.

You've got a whole day or two before we deploy, Shikamaru-kun. Give it some time, I'm sure you'll be as excellent as ever. [With a little shrug and a shake of his head] Now as much as I'm sure the ladies appreciate it, you might want to get dressed.

[Wow, he got a shirt on, that's good enough.

But no. He's eying the showers, actually. He's not covered in dirt and grime like he remembers, but it still feels like it's been a while. And he needs a place to think.]

Where are you going, after this?

[generalflirt]

[Possibly intentionally, possibly to highlight Shikamaru's new shortness, and definitely oblivious to how suspect this could look, he leans in and down to be centimeters from Shikamaru's face, smiling broadly]

Wherever you're going, obviously. I'm here to follow you.

[It succeeds in getting his attention back, if that's what he wanted. His eyebrows furrowed at the proximity, but stunned by something else entirely.

This world isn't real is drowned out, for the time being. This is my friend echoes loudly.

He nods stiffly.]

Okay. [The thought settles in further, and he nods again. He can't match that smile, but it's definitely firmer this time.]

Good, now go show off for those co-ed showers! Tally ho! [He takes a step back and then cocks his arm back as if he were going to smack Shikamaru's ass. Instead he sticks his tongue out and makes to skip off to see other people]

Shikamaru watches Masaomi go off, either ignoring or ignorant of the looks he's getting. He looks down at the clothes in his hands; the metal plate sewn into one sleeve of his shirt, and the shinobi emblem that replaced the long familiar leaf.

It's dinged up. He wipes it clean of smudges with his shirt and heads for the showers. Time to focus, and to think.]
