[She opens the pack back up to take a look at the notes on the various items. Better to know what they do now than to wait until she needs to...]

Wow...! You really thought of everything, Professor Sage! Oh, but...I should probably be hoping that I won't have to use this stuff, huh?

[It's not as if she wants anyone to be hurt just so she can help them, though she knows the chance that no one will get hurt is ridiculously slim.]

It's good to hope for, but the reality is that the supplies will be needed. That's why everyone needs to be as prepared as possible.

Y...Yeah, that's right.

...To be honest, no matter how much I prepare and review and think...it never really feels like I've done enough. You know?

I understand. Experience is another thing that prepares us. Sometimes you don't really know how ready you are until you get it under your belt a few times, and even then, that might not be enough. So we do the best we can.

Yeah...I, uh, I guess I'll be more confident with this once I've...I've done it a few times.

[Though the idea that she'll probably be sent out on another draft at some point is scary in itself. Once is one time too many for Pilouette already.]

Professor Sage, um, if it's okay for me to ask...How many drafts have you been on?

I haven't been on all of them since they started up, but most of them. This is my ninth one, but... don't even let that number daunt you. The locations, what's expected of us, what we face... these also change, from time to time.

[Even if Raine says otherwise, Pilouette can't help but be a bit astonished. Nine times. NINE times Raine has been sent off into this war and she still seems so calm and cool headed. She did say that experience is what prepares people, but...It's kind of amazing to Pilouette.

Pils takes a moment to think about what Raine has said.]

So no matter how many of them you go on, you never really know what to expect? Like, how do you even deal with that? Or even this whole thing! I mean, like, being in a...a warzone was the last thing I thought I'd be doing.

Yes, something like that. We've been dispatched to various territories and have dealt with extreme extenuating circumstances. Last time, for instance, there was a disease that was affecting both our side as well as the third party, making it even more dangerous for everyone. During another time we had to fight while in the jungle - and it was only people from our enclosure alone who were sent out there, to a battle where our only main goal was to survive. Fighting together with people from other enclosures is more of a recent situation.

Whoa...! That's...That's all, like, pretty different. So I guess you can only plan so much...you have to just take whatever comes at you.

[The not knowing is what scares her the most. The fact that they've only recently begun dealing with other enclosures on drafts makes her a little nervous as well, given what happened with the refugees before.

There's no way she can be completely prepared. She does her best to put on a smile, though it's an uneasy one.]

...I think maybe I should get back to studying over my first aid stuff again. J-Just to make sure I'm as ready as I can be. Um, Th-Thank you, Professor Sage.

You're welcome. Is there anything in there you need help going over? I can take a few moments to help you study, if you'd like. [She does have other people helping make the deliveries, after all.]

That would be great, Professor Sage! I'm actually just trying to go over everything Mia taught me instead of anything specific, though. There's just so much and I'm not sure I can remember it all. Like, I don't wanna freak out and start forgetting stuff, you know?
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-04-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot to know, and you won't really know what's needed until things start happening. A lot of what goes on eventually ends up being instinct. If you're worried that you might be too nervous, practice being calm. Practice being surprised, or under pressure... though this situation is already a bit too late for that. There will be people around to give you instruction, I'm sure - you'd just need to be able to follow their lead.
