This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

[I don't blame you. So many others had. They asked why he had let himself become what he had. They asked why he couldn't piece himself back together. It was all on him, and not on anyone else. But Jeb... He hides how powerfully those words affect him. He wants it to mean nothing to him, absolutely nothing, just like everything else.]

You must think yourself a fountain of wisdom. [Bitter, cutting, insincere because he's afraid to commit.]

I don't. There are a lot of answers I don't think I have the answers to, even things I wish I did. [Why couldn't he have been strong enough to protect his siblings and himself why did Tori and Michiru have to get hurt why why why] I just don't think that you disagreeing with me is bad.

[He isn't going to give anything away. He doesn't want to become invested in Jeb's words. He'll nip this argument in the bud and keep everything safely hidden behind thick walls.]

Well, I... um--

[He supposes he is. This isn't going anywhere. He begins to tell the man that he is in fact done, but those wings catch his attention again. What comes out of his mouth is incredibly different than what he meant to say:]

Your wings are amazing... I've never seen anything like them. [W-Wait, no! That's not what he wanted to say...!]

but then this was gay too

[The comment startles some emotion out of his stony face. Then the surprise, edged with confusion, fades back into cold hatred soon enough, but he still remembers someone else who he wished he could have shown his wings to. He arranges his expression into a sharp smirk.]

I doubt you have ever seen so powerful a being before either.

[The surprised expression, curiously enough, is what pulls back the familiarity back to Jeb, having been temporarily forgotten. His own eyes widen with shock. It couldn't possibly be him. Even if they look so similar, it couldn't...

The comment flusters Jeb too, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks. He can't help it, a mixture of his suspicions (of this man possibly being the same person he's shared how many kisses with, now?) and how it was worded got to him.

C-Cough.]

[He lets both the surprise and embarrassment wear off before trusting himself to speak again.]

I... [Jeb gulps, looking down to the floor.] M-Maybe. I wouldn't know if I have or not. It depends...

[It's the truth. He has no idea how strong the man before him is, if he's stronger than Donovan or not. His eyes dart back up, but he isn't looking directly at the other man anymore.]

[He doesn't understand the emotions that cross Jeb's face, the flustered color of his cheeks, but he won't waste time trying to understand either. His smirk curls down disdainfully.]

[Donovan is frighteningly strong, too. The one time he was able to see the ancient being in combat is something Jeb doesn't think he'll ever forget.]

But we'll see on the battlefield, right? [He tries to smile again.] Either way, you're probably the most powerful being I've met here.
