TERRACE Draft - Remaining Days

[He admires the clean shot, but it doesn't keep him from scanning the area, another arrow already nocked and ready.]

Tall buildings. Got to love them. Almost like being back home. Think they have a Starbucks?

[He laughs at her reaction, and it's so normal and so perfect.]

Me? You're the one who's going along with it.

Do you have any idea how badly I would kill for a Starbucks right now? You had to go and say that, didn't you?

[She groans and takes out her irritation on leaping up to catch a railing on a nearby building, dragging herself up until she could get a foothold, then clearing the way for him to follow, already looking for the easiest way up to the roof from here. She aims for the corner, finding finger- and toe-holds in the stone blocks.]

Of course I am. Never claimed I wasn't insane too.

Just think of the state of your paycheck. You don't have to support all seventeen coffee houses near your apartment now.

[ He teases her gently, because he knows how much she loves her coffee. Knows better than to keep her from it.

He follows after her, pulling himself up with a little more ease. The extra height helps sometimes.]

Oh well, so long as we're all clear on this point.

My paycheck was just fine, thank you. [She huffs this out, but her tone is wry, because it's a silly thing to miss, although she still does.] And it's not like it would bankrupt me here anyway. How many mission points do you think we'd need to trade for a Starbucks?

[She makes it to the roof with relative ease and without either of them being spotted. So far so good. She turns to make sure he's doing alright and to offer him a hand if he needs it, although they're both relatively skilled at this.]

I'm sure the staff of the various coffee shops agree with you.

[She has a point though. Neither of them were exactly short on cash. It helped that SHIELD paid for pretty much everything they actually needed. If you wanted the best, you offered good perks.]

Uh... I would guess a lot of points. And I mean, is that with staff and hipsters or do you have to stock it yourself?

[He pulls himself up most of the way and pulls himself over the side of the roof, stretching a little and then turning to take a better look around.]

Maybe it would cost less if I asked for it without the hipsters. [She makes room for him when he pulls himself up, taking a step back and surveying the sky again.

A flicker of movement catches her eye and she tenses, bracing herself a moment before a Cultists drops down, practically right on top of them, a blade flashing for her face. She drops, avoiding the strike, kicking out with her foot to take out his legs.]

Maybe. Probably a good thing. I'm not sure the underground music scene is so hot here.

[They move in concert when the cultist drops down, Tasha knocking him down while Clint took aim and fired, a clean shot at his head.]

Well, they suck as a welcoming committee.

As hot as any other scene, I'd wager.

[Clint's shot drops the cultist in one and she shifts just enough to avoid him falling over on her. She pushes herself to her feet and glances up to where the rope the cultist had used to drop in on them still dangled.

Well. Wasn't that handy? She smirks at Clint]

Abhorrent. Let's take our complaints to upper management.

There isn't exactly any scene to be the underground of. Luceti is not particularly flush with music clubs.

[Or clubs of any kind for that matter. Or bars. Or, as has been noted, coffee shops.

He follows her gaze and huh, isn't that handy? Almost like some higher power is setting things up for them. Which is ridiculous of course.]

You know I love it when we get to escalate problems.

You escalate problems on a daily basis. I swear it's your superpower.

[She flashes him a smirk and crooks her finger at him in invitation.]

Gimme a boost?

Look, just because I accidentally managed to get the Vatican involved that one time in Rome doesn't mean I make a habit of it.

[He crosses over to her, grinning.]

Any time, sweetheart. All you have to do is ask.

You're forgetting Phuket. And Jaipur. And don't get me started on Kiev. Should I continue?

[She waits for him with a teasing smirk, her eyes lit with impish humor as he crosses to her. She reaches out instinctively for his shoulder to steady herself, turning her gaze upwards then, to the rope above them.]

Technicalities. We came out of it mostly unscathed didn't we?

[He grins when he reaches her and ducks a little to give her a foothold to boost her to the rope.]

Relatively.

[There's dry humor in her voice as she steadies herself a moment before he helps launch her upwards. The rope isn't far, but it was out of her reach on her own. She catches it, scaling up it high enough that she dangles above him in the air.]

Can you reach?

What're a couple of gaping knife wounds between friends?

[He helps to push her upwards enough to grab the rope and then, reaching for it himself. It's a bit of a stretch, but he manages to grasp it.]

I got it.

Messy, that's what. Try to avoid those this time, would you?

[She waits until she's sure he can get a handhold before turning her attention upwards once more. It's going to be harder going up than it was for the cultist coming down, but they've done worse.

She starts to scale her way up without another word, keeping an eye on their surroundings. If they got spotted now, they'd be in trouble.]

Demanding today aren't you? Fine, I'll try to avoid grievous injury.

[It's easy banter, and he enjoys it. Like it always has been.

He gives her enough space to climb a few feet, enough to make sure she won't kick him if she has to move suddenly, and then he starts climbing, pulling himself up arm over arm until he can wrap his legs around it too.]

You should be used to it by now, Barton. Besides, I didn't bring enough changes of clothes with me for you to bleed all over me this time. Or vice versa.

[There's a hint of strain in her voice from the effort, but she finds a steady pace, pulling herself upwards with determined precision. She catches a glimpse of motion from the corner of her eye but the cultists winging its way towards the ground has another target in sight and doesn't take note of them.]

Oh geez, you just reminded me. I think I forgot to switch the iron off before we left Luceti.

[The motion catches his attention too, but they're gone soon enough and he lets out a breath before starting to climb again.]

[She laughs at that, still going, an amused smirk on her lips.] Do you even know how to turn the iron on?

[They're getting closer now, enough that she can make out the shape of the bottom of the airship, the sheer width and length of it. There's less noise of fighting here, but the air currents are trickier and she grits her teeth, her muscles protesting the strain of the climb.]

Wait, you mean I have to switch it on? I've been doing it wrong all this time!

[He laughs softly, but most of his attention is caught by the sight of the airship up above. That is a hell of a size. He grits his teeth and keeps climbing.]

My partner, the genius.

[Her voice is teasing, laughter lurking in her tone, because the familiar banter is a welcome distraction from the tension of the climb. The strain's more noticeable now and she falls quiet for a while as they climb higher. Her gaze follows the rope where it goes up over the side - supposedly to the railing. The climb will be easier once they have the ship to brace themselves on, rather than empty air. She pushes herself harder.]

I just need the right push. I figured out how to use the coffee maker out of self defense. You don't try to kill me if I screw up the ironing.

[The coffee on the other hand...

Just a little further and then they'll at least have some kind of support. Much further and he'd start worrying about falling.]

Clearly a push I'll need to start looking for once we get back. How else can I housebreak you, I wonder, with the right motivation?

[There's a smirk in her voice, but also a note of relief as they reach the bottom of the airship. She braces her feet against it, still using the rope and its easier and quicker to push herself upwards now. She glances down, making sure he's still alright and right behind her.]

And here I thought you loved me just the way I am.

[He grins but damn, it's good to see the end of their climb. He follows her up along the side of the ship, taking a moment to rest before going the rest of the way.]
