Of course it figured that he couldn't fall asleep when he was comfortable and safe in his own bed, but he had to sleep through this. It was really just her luck. Rogue, knowing that calling him wouldn't do it, didn't give a second thought to reaching out and shaking his shoulder.

Loki woke with a start, one hand yanking a dagger from what seemed to be thin air before he recognized the familiar sight and feeling of Rogue. He gave her a sheepish smile. "What is it?"

[touchofrogue]

Rogue started at the sudden appearance of the dagger, her shoulders slumping in relief at that smile. "We're under attack." She jerked a thumb over her shoulder. "There's an alarm."

[complicatedliar]

At that, his smile vanished. He quickly stood, his other hand rubbing his eyes briefly. He hesitated for a moment, then reached for her hand.

Even with the blaring of the alarm in her ears, Rogue gave Loki her hand without hesitation. She met his gaze and then leaned up, resting her gloved hand over his lips, and gave him the only kind of kiss she knew would be safe.

Resting back on her heels, she squeezed his hand. "Be safe."

"And you, lady." He cast the shield without even a flicker of effort, at his full power, and leaned forward to place a full, tender kiss on her lips. "For luck."

[touchofrogue]

Mmm.

Rogue pulled away and smiled at him, harkening back to one of their earlier conversations, "Comin' from you, how could that go wrong?"

Squeezing his hand, she made to let go and catch up with her team.

Loki laughed, and then vanished from view. As much as he wished to stay close to her, well, they fought differently. He would not interfere.

After all, that was how trust worked.
