[ Rapunzel moves to apply the cloth - and then the bird starts to change. She shifts, changing shape into one familiar to her. And only a moment later, Rapunzel, bewildered, stares at Raven lying before her.

What...what had just happened?

But then the blood starts to show, and Rapunzel lets out a strangled cry, heat rising to her eyes. ]

Raven!

[pendantry]

[Someone's calling her name.

Raven barely managed to curl into her last protective ball, and now...someone wants her attention. She doesn't want to answer. It's easier to just drift away here.

Except she knows exactly who that is. Forces an eye open just enough to see her.

There's nothing to say.]

[degleamed]

[ And then it's just all too much. Too much, watching a dear friend bleed in front of her when her hair is gone. Rapunzel hopelessly rakes her hands through her far-too-short hair. She can't heal her. She can't.

She leans forward, wrapping her arms around her friend, tears spilling over her eyes. ]

I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry...

[pendantry]

[Things go dark again as she closes her eye and hisses softly from the pain of being held.

Don't be sorry, she wants to say. It's better, if she has to die, to do it in the arms of a friend.

At some point she will realize she is no longer fading.]

[degleamed]

[ Rapunzel clings to her as sobs shake out of her. No. No. She can’t let this happen. She can’t let her friend die here like this. But what could she do? Without her hair.

In a desperate, tight voice, she sings as her tears. She knows it’s futile. Her hair gone, and she can no longer heal. But she can’t bring herself to let it go. Not when a friend’s life hangs in the balance.

Please. ]

[In the loneliness of her own private darkness, Raven imagines the sound of someone singing.

She doesn't see Rapunzel cry, or the tears land, or the sudden burst of living light that follows such a desperate song. At first, she doesn't feel her injuries start to heal, either; she is beyond the point of noticing pain.

And when the light fades, she is motionless in Rapunzel's hold - but whole, and breathing. As though she is asleep, almost.]

[degleamed]

[ She's so still, and for a fleeting, frightening moment, Rapunzel fears she has lost her. She fears her friend has died in her arms, that she's failed her because she was irresponsible and went where she shouldn't have and got her hair cut off so she could live.

And now her hope was gone. Raven was dead, and...

And then a warm light grew, life blossoming around the injury Raven had sustained. Rapunzel's eyes widened in shock - how? How could this be? Her hair was gone. She'd sung her song, but...

Her tears. It must had been her magic in her tears. Oh please. Oh please, please let her live. ]

Raven? [ Her voice is barely a croak. ]

[pendantry]

[It takes a little while, and then both eyes slide open just enough to solidify the blur of Rapunzel's face.]

What...happened?

[degleamed]

[ She's speaking. She can hear Raven's voice, she's speaking, she hasn't slipped into that unconsciousness between life and death that Rapunzel has seen far too many times in the last few days.

She's alive. She's alive.

Eyes wide with shock, she stares with disbelief at her friend. Please let this be real. Not a dream. Please let her have saved her. ]

I-I - you were hurt, s-so I healed you.

[pendantry]

I didn't... [It feels like she still needs to think about breathing. Though it takes a while, awareness of someone else holding her up - that's Rapunzel, isn't it? - comes through a steadily dispersing haze.]

Did...I die?

[Fear. She is afraid to die in a place where there is no return to the Forest of Beginnings, not even a chance of it.]

[degleamed]

[ At the question, Rapunzel actually smiles through her sobs of relief. She could answer that with the answer she wanted to. ]

No. No, you lived.

[pendantry]

[And she feels...okay. There is no pain anywhere. What a significant change. Raven tries to sit up and will succeed if Rapunzel helps her.]

And- [She clears her throat a few times, because now she can hear how weak she sounds.] You...what happened to you?

[degleamed]

[ Rapunzel helps her into a sitting position, arms still around her and shaking. ]

I...my hair...it was cut.

[pendantry]

[Dazed eyes narrow into fine-pointed anger.]

Who did it? [They won't last long.

When Raven realizes that she is not the one doing the shaking, one arm hesitantly hugs Rapunzel back.]

[degleamed]

[ She hesitated, not wanting to make any further trouble for Asch than she already had. After all, he'd only done it because there was no other way for her to escape. ]

It was a friend. H-he did it to save me.

[pendantry]

[Oh. ...That's...is that even acceptable? Yes, of course it is. Because Rapunzel is alive.

Raven just wants to sit here and try to regroup herself. She's shaking now, too.]

[degleamed]

[ Rapunzel holds onto her all the tighter for that shaking. ]

You're welcome. I'm so glad.

[pendantry]

[As hard as she tries, she can't stop shaking.

She could have died. Very nearly did, from what she remembers breaking through the haziness of closing darkness. Someone was talking to her but she couldn't answer, and then there was singing-

And she used to be a bird.

Knowing that Rapunzel saw that doesn't help the shaking.]

[degleamed]

[ Now that the danger is not so immediate, Rapunzel is beginning to remember that fact - that Raven had been a bird. But this didn't seem like the time to ask about it. ]

We should get back to the clinic. You need rest. Can you walk?

[pendantry]

I don't know.

[She tries to push away a little bit, but her arms give out the first time.]

[degleamed]

[ Rapunzel loops Raven's arm over her shoulder, shakily pushing herself onto her legs. ]

We have to try.

[pendantry]

[At least once she's up, she seems able to stay up without doing a heck of a lot of leaning. Rapunzel is smaller and slighter enough to make a difference.

Only then does it occur to her to keep an eye out for attackers. Why can't this stupid fight be over already?]

[degleamed]

[ Rapunzel starts moving slowly, watching out for enemies as well. She needed to make sure Raven got back safe. After everything that has happened, she has to at least do that. ]

I'll be fine.

[With support and a goal in mind and ignoring the weirdness of no golden hair trailing along behind them? Things would be okay for a little while.]
