TERRACE Draft - Remaining Days

This post covers the second to sixth day! Be sure to check the info post on the timeline to know what's up. At 2AM on the 27th, the attack will break out while most people are sleeping. Be sure to use the above info post for any plotting needs you might have. Enjoy!

[Not having to worry as much about watching his right side, Fayt's free to take a few more risks in his actions. Fayt ducks under a cultist's blade, swinging low to slash at the soldier's kneecaps and send him to the ground, crippled. Fayt's blade is quick to finish the work with a fatal thrust that sinks through the man's ribs.]

[Someone fires and Souji uses the cultist's body as a shield, feeling the bullets rip into his victim rather than himself. He pulls back and dislodges the sword, dashing forward when the barrage ends and casts a glance over to Fayt.

Cliff wasn't lying when he said the boy was good.]

I can see why he said we'd do well together!

I guess I'll take that as a compliment! [Another attempted attack from behind gets a slightly more alert response then before. Rather then allowing them too close, he's taking a sidestep out of range and pivoting, kicking the soldier away before they can get close enough to try to strike.] You're pretty good yourself!

[More then good... this guy was pretty amazing.]

[Souji runs for the cultist soldier that shot at him and the man swings his weapon forward, trying to crack the butt of the rifle against his head. He stops just short, letting the rifle pass centimeters in front of his face and follows up by cutting the soldier's arms off with an upward swing that sheers through his body as well.]

I have to be! [He ducks low under another blow aimed at him and cuts through his attacker's legs, the sword easily cleaving through bone. He stands and takes a defensive stance as the two soldiers fall, one alive but not for long. The numbers are thinning, a few of the soldiers in the rear backing up and considering retreat after seeing the two pronged attack.]

We're the Shogun's demons after all.

[Fayt brings his sword around and moves forward, slashing the midsection of the soldier he had just kicked. He can't help but watch what he can from the corner of his eyes this guy's strength-- one swipe? really?] The Shogun's Demons? Military?

[He notices the movements of the soldiers and decides this might be a useful time to press an advantage. If this guy could cover him...] If we can get into the thick of them, they'll scatter.

Something like that.

[He quick steps back and flicks the blood from his sword, bringing it up in front of him again as the soldiers hesitate, not quite sure how to move forward. Okita takes the moment to look over to Fayt and nods.]

I have your back, Fayt-kun.

Good. I can get behind them if you can buy me some time. [Making sure to keep distance from Okita, Fayt grips his sword and focuses on calling up energy around himself and the blade... and dark, shadowy energy rises from the ground at his feet, lashing out at any soldiers who try to approach as it continues to rise like some sort of vortex.

And then he vanishes in a flash along with that energy, only to reappear behind the group of hesitant soldiers, lashing out with that shadowy energy still lingering on his blade. They could push their advantage like this.]

Right. [Buy him time? No problem.

Souji darts forward and starts clashing with the soldiers, fighting without killing - drawing their focus. He wounds, but leaves them alive, angering them, making himself the main target while he keeps alert for whatever Fayt is about to do.

The last thing he expected was to suddenly see Fayt on the other side of the group, boxing the soldiers in.

That was a handy little trick he had. Souji would have to ask him about it later.

He ducks under a swing and takes the soldier's arm off with his sword, pressing the men back and into Fayt's offensive push.]

[Fayt joins Souji in the push, attacking the soldiers in front of him and pushing the group towards Souji as he does, the dark energy fading away quickly after that initial slash until it's gone in a second or so.

Some of the soldiers look ready for retreat from the pressure they were being placed under, though.]

[With the squad sandwiched, Souji presses them harder along with Fayt and takes no mercy. Anyone who takes their attention from him is killed, their wings shorn from their backs or blades shoved through their necks. It doesn't take long until there are only a few stragglers left, and those left behind are running to retreat.

Too bad he isn't one to allow that.

He's about to go after them when he remembers that Fayt is there. What would the boy do? Go after them and finish them off? Or leave them to run as the cowards they were?]

[Fayt isn't really one to chase after people who retreat unless it's absolutely necessary. He is however, not going to let them go without giving them a reason to not slink back onto the battlefield.

It takes maybe a half second for him to call up a simple symbol, the markings glowing in the air a foot in front of him for a moment before the energy connects and a small line of electricity shoots out from the glowing circle to strike some of the men, likely stunning a few for several seconds and giving whoever it hits what probably amounts to some nasty warning burns.]

[Mercy then. Something he never learned. He would have chased the men down and slaughtered them all, knowing that was the best deterrent against a return to the field. But this is a kindness of the sort only a battlefield knows and he'll defer to Fayt for that. Not everyone is as bloodthirsty as he can be.

Also, he needs to rest and he does this, taking a step back and lowering his weapon. As he sheathes it, he uses the motion to conceal him grabbing his side, willing himself to take slow, even breaths.]

I think they won't likely be back for some time now. Your abilities are amazing, Fayt-kun.

[Unlike Souji, Fayt had spent most of his 19 years of life in relative peace. Wars where he came from rarely ever happened on the planet's surface. So fighting for your life was still relatively new to him, even after everything they had been through. War? even more so. He lowers his sword, slipping it into the sheath hanging from his back as he walks over to Souji.]

Me? You're amazing. You took them all out so fast....

[When Fayt walks over, Souji drops his hand, not wanting to show anyone that he's not at his best right now on the battlefield. Instead, he laughs and shrugs a little.]

I was faster when I was younger. It comes from being accustomed to war.

[He motions to his sword.]

And from a particularly keen weapon. My name is Okita Souji. [He bows his head a little.] Those soldiers cut me off earlier.

[The move goes unnoticed with how discreet it was. Fayt's was observant, but right now they were all a bit banged up.]

... you seem like you've seen a lot of combat. [With how he moved with those soldiers crowding around him, it wasn't surprising at all to hear he was accustomed to war. He moved more like Albel, or maybe Cliff. He offers a hand with a grin.]

It's good to meet you, Okita. Though I guess you know my name already. [How much has Cliff been talking about him, anyway?]

[He just smiles, not wanting to talk about how long he's seen such things. Far too long, according to some, not long enough to others. Fayt, though, was still young and he didn't need to be burdened by Souji's knowledge.]

It's good to meet you, too.

[He looks at the hand for a moment, then takes it, nowhere near as firm as others might have. Instead of shaking Fayt's hand, he bows his head before pulling away.]

He spoke very fondly of you before. And very highly of your skills. I'm glad to have been able to see them in person.

[Fayt notes the bow, wondering if maybe handshakes weren't what they did where he came from. It was definitely possible.]

Did he....? [It was always odd to hear people had been talking about him, but then again, this guy was pretty amazing with a sword.] I hope I lived up to his stories, then.

I teach swordsmanship at the Barracks in the early morning. We were talking about spars and he suggested you.

[Souji's smile widened]

And I can see why. You certainly do live up to the stories.

You teach swordsmanship? [He looks surprised... and just a bit interested.] So that's how it came up.

Yes, to Sokka-kun, the smith, mainly. I've been searching for a sparring partner for him and myself lately.

[Heheheheh, he knew that would get his attention.]

Sokka? I've spoken to him before. [The overworked sounding guy from the smithy....]

Well, if you think I'd be suitable, I think I'd like to take you up on that.

[He's not as much of a fight nut as Cliff, but he did enjoy combat to a point. He wanted to learn.]

Oh, have you? Excellent. [He clapped his hands together and smiled.]

Then perhaps once we return from this draft, after a short break, the three of us can start? Cliff-san said he would come along, to watch if nothing else.

Sounds like a plan to me. [Being able to practice, really spar against someone, would be enjoyable. The only fights he'd had against others with a blade were serious ones.

He hadn't really had the chance to learn, outside of video games.]

Until then, however. [He bows and points to his left.] I've been called in that direction, so I must leave you. You'll be alright, yes?

Yeah, I will be. [He could manage on his own for now. He pauses, glancing over Okita. He didn't see anything, but better to ask and make sure.] Do you need anything healed before you go?
