You're right, you shouldn't. [ A kind smile. ] But it's true, regardless.

[His initial response is a vague sound of acknowledgement. Maybe he finds her a little foolish for it, but he can't really argue against the benefits. Not many people could have distracted him from what he'd just experienced.]

That's right. I never would have left my tower if he hadn't tried to hide in it.

He was running from the castle guard. He stole a crown.

[ Her crown, it so happens. ]

So you're an accomplice, now?

[Not so innocent, eh? His lip quirks, almost, almost amused. Like he wants to be, but he's not quite ready yet.]

You could say that. But you know what? The crown he stole ended up being mine. The lost princess's.

[ How's that for irony? ]

[He blinks at her briefly in surprise, then scoffs quietly.]

How convenient. Stole a crown and found a princess. It's not the most heroic of stories, but it sounds like it worked out for the better.

[gleamed]

It did. He really came around, too. I think anyone can, given enough time.

...That's... a little too optimistic a thought for me to agree with.

[He does have his limits, even with her.]

Maybe you just need time to come around to it, too.
