Possession Event

Who: People in Luceti
What: Spiritual possession
When: The 26th to the 1st
Where: Luceti!
Summary: Check out the previous mod post.
Rating: If it gets smutty, move it somewhere private.

Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

  • Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.
  • Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.
  • Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.
  • Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.
  • Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.
  • Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.
  • Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.
  • Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

"Perhaps, but at the moment none of them are my quarry. I simply wished to know what I had at my disposal while I went looking for the next step. The magician I believe."
    complicatedliar: (hmmmm)

    Oho. The plot thickens.

Loki widens his eyes, looking concerned. "Quarry? Magician? Oh this does sound serious."

At the moment, most of the powerful mages in the village are on his side--and Twila's. It's in his interest to shield them.

"Oh? It's simply the next step on the journey."

She looks over him, eyes glistening oddly in the light.

"You however do not appear to be the magician. Then again, I am wearing the chariot right now and may not appear to be as I am."

    She bows.

"I am Elizabeth of the Velvet Room."

"And what journey might that be?"

He is pleased to pretend to be someone else for now, until he knows the situation. This person possibly does not know him on sight, so it opens a world of possibility. He climbs down from the tree branch, now wanting to appear innocuous.

"Nothing so interesting as that, I'm afraid. I am but a humble baker. My name is Samuel. It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Elizabeth." He plucks the name 'Samuel' from one of the books Billy has loaned him as not sounding at all wizardly. "Who are you looking for? Perhaps I might help."

Elizabeth knows Loki, just not THIS Loki, she's been present for his summoning as a persona, so she is blind to his tricks.

"I am looking for the 20 major arcana. To unlock why humanity gives birth to Erebus. Perhaps in understanding the 20 the Fool can pass to the World and then Erebus can be understood and dealt with properly."
    complicatedliar: (all according to plan)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-28 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like a mission from her place of origin, so ultimately fruitless here. Though he won't disabuse her if that notion yet. It could be useful to send her bouncing off somewhere.

"Ah, I see. And that is why you seek a magician? Or is there a particular magician? Nasty lot, those people."
    elevatoravatar: (Smug Liz)

    [personal profile] elevatoravatar 2013-05-28 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? From what I have seen the Magician is frequently an idiot. Simply the first step on the path and the first guide the fool has. Transformation of potential, not definition."
complicatedliar: (deciding where to stick the knife)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-28 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He has to really throttle the urge to argue there. well, if she prices to be useless, he can do something nasty later in revenge.

"I really wouldn't know. I avoid people like that on principle. Not natural, for some to go about twisting reality around and the like." He shrugs. "I don't want to be turned into a frog."

She blinks and peers at him curiously.

"Perhaps you are mixing up a sorcerer with the magician, who represents the first of the major arcana of the tarot. Then again, this world may not have that particular divination tool."

She stares at the tree for a second.

"It is like that shallow man who was more concerned with his mechanical armor than anything else. I don't think he understood what I was asking for when he told me to find Loki and leave him alone. But he shares the role of the fool as do I, so there would be nothing to be gained as the fool represents freedom and ultimate potential, not being bound down to something like the other arcana. Though.... Come to think of it perhaps I should look for him."

    She shrugs a bit.
complicatedliar: (totally not up to something)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-28 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shallow man... Oh, Tony Stark? Yes, he is, isn't he. Though don't tell anyone I said so. He's got most people around here in some sort of thrall. They think he's a great hero." Loki shakes his head. If she's been talking to Tony, no reason to try to depict himself as anything but dastardly. This could be quite fun, however, depending on how this person views herself. "Loki is another matter entirely. I hear he calls himself a magician, but he's the sort that turns people into frogs and worse. And he's a notorious liar to boot... well, and more."

He shakes his head, sighing. "I wish I could do something about the mess, but what can a cake do against men like that? You... don't happen to like cupcakes, do you Lady Elizabeth?"
    elevatoravatar: (Pondering Liz)

    [personal profile] elevatoravatar 2013-05-28 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would think Loki to be more of a trickster, or at least that is what was stated in my book... Before it was taken from me. A force of nature to be respected and feared."

She shrugged a bit and tilted her head.

"For would Thor ally himself with a being of no worth? Still, that Stark seemed too limited in focus to lead people to their potential. Perhaps I am missing something."

She shakes her head a bit at the last part.

"I have had cupcakes before but they are more of an indulgence. Food is in general, a nice one, but one that does not suit my current mood or face."

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-28 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"He generally is a trickster in tales," Loki says, nodding. "But not so much here, I guess. I'm surprised Tony Stark didn't tell you more. He's ever so talkative. And he's always told these awful stories about Loki killing people and destroying things on his own planet. I don't know, do you think he might be lying? But I also only know about the Loki here and he's... very not nice. He kidnaps people and makes them run through a maze and fight for their lives all for his entertainment."

He shrugs. "Well... I don't really know. But perhaps Thor can be confused by a glib tongue? Tony Stark certainly has one of those as well, you have to admit."

He nods. "If you change your mind, let me know." His expression becomes almost mournful. "I'm afraid it is all I have to offer other than bits of information."

"Hrm, it is a possibility however I do not believe the legends would lie. As for the other man, tyrants are born and die, very few of them are remembered and as long as he does not contribute to the feeding of Erebus, who am I to dictate what humanity chooses to do with itself?"
    complicatedliar: (hatching an evil plot)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-29 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Interesting. A bit more probing is in order.

"If it is a god tormenting humans, it's not really a choice we've made for ourselves, now is it," he points out. This is a little too easy. He's heard Steve Rogers speak one too many times perhaps. "And you're stuck in here with us." He gives her a bitter smile. "Legends always say Thor defends people. I suppose that isn't true either."

He snorts, waving a hand. "Tales. They're just lies we tell ourselves in order to pretend someone cares."

    [personal profile] elevatoravatar 2013-05-29 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thor was a defender of his people and a plunderer of those who were not his. As for tormenting humans, that is the nature of some. To tell them to stop doing so would be to ask them to vanish, would it not?"
    complicatedliar: (eye roll)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-29 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not just his people," Loki corrects. "He's quite enamored of mortals, actually. Ah well. I suppose that answers that question. You are not like Thor at all if legends hold any truth."

Well, that is annoying. Then again, something so laconic about people dying isn't likely to get in his way if it comes top that. He can with this, though it does require a reassessment of more short term fun.

He considers. "But what is this Erebus you speak of? Some great evil?"

"Erebus is the beast born of humanity's desire for self destruction. It awoke when Nyx was sealed away and Thanatos left her employ."

"Generally if they are trying to end their own existence, either alone or by taking as many with them as possible."
    complicatedliar: (Default)

    [personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-05-30 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"So you don't care if people are hurt unless it is self destructive? How interesting."

He sighs. "Though I think our particular evil god is more interested in tormenting others into such despair. A fine feast he shall some day create for such a creature as Erebus, I imagine."
    elevatoravatar: (Hrm...)

"The rules are simple. The people outside the shield inflict experiments upon us, most of them annoying. The shield cannot be broken. Death is not permanent, but if you die you come back a week later with a very unpleasant handicap, seeming at random. Power is curtailed, but one might deal with spirits for more. The best of those is a spirit called... Twila, I think it is. Is that right? Ah, I believe so. The books communicate with all the other books, but sometimes you must talk very loudly to make yourself understood. That is all of the pertinent things I can think of."

    He shakes his head. "Questions?"

"Best? Do you mean most powerful? Most well connected? There are many ways one can excel and not all of them fit every situation."
