Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

Derek will nod and oblige; he will smile a little though when he hears her step into the water.

"Better?"

Effie doesn't answer. With her arms stretched to the sides for balance, she steps both feet into the muddy shallows just beside the riverbank. The current is fast and cold against her legs, but it feels so good and right.

This is where she is meant to be. Only deeper! Deeper water will be even better! She advances a step or two until the water is brushing her knees.

".....Oh."

That word gets him to turn around, request or not.

"You all right?"

All right? Effie hasn't felt this powerful ever. Even though the water is beginning to numb her from the knees down.

"Mmhmm."

He sees that, and although the woman definitely has his attention, especially with the wig off, it's obvious getting her to react to anything other than the water is going to be a chore.

Not something he's really interested in getting involved with right now.

He'll unfurl his wings again, giving them an experimental flap. Maybe he'll go check out the mountains...or maybe it's time to head for the beach. At least there, he'll have some time to himself. He has some serious thinking to do, after all.

"Good. Don't drown yourself."

And this would be the moment that Effie, with a swirl of her hand, sends a wave of water shooting Derek's way.

It's a surprise, but with his wings already out, he avoids the first shot of water simply by leaping into the air. His wings crackle again; normally, he'd retaliate, but he has no control over water with Tsinku firmly entrenched in him. So instead, he hovers, those tiny sparks racing along the edges of his feathers like a storm of static.

"Cute. Good way to get zapped, though."

He's smiling. Just a little.

"You'd never dare." Here comes more water, Derek. If water could appear smug, then this water is. That smile is more than enough incentive.

Oh, wouldn't he?

He'll dip up again, then, with the slightest hand motion, call his own ability into play, shocking her on her prim little butt.

Add one amused eyebrow raise to that smile.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" It is doubtful whether the very dignified Effie Trinket has ever, in her entire life, squealed like that.

She has to take a break from flinging water at him to scrub a hand furiously across her still-tingly butt.

Derek should prepare himself for a relatively fast-moving wall of water this time. Retaliation.

He laughs as he launches himself into the sky to avoid that wall, stopping just above where her reach is at it's highest.

"You did dare me," he calls down.

Right. Time to put Mister Bliss back in his place. Barely aware that she can't feel her feet anymore from the cold, Effie propels herself skyward to greet him with two fistfuls of balled-up water. Like snowballs, but wetter.

The Spirit is eager to engage with the object of her fascination, but Effie is not the greatest flyer. She doesn't have the coordination down, yet. And she's not super-fond of heights, either.

"Come back here!"

Oh no, he's not going to make it that easy on her. He laughs, back flapping to get out of range again.

"How about you come to me?"

C'mon, Effie. How can you resist that grin?

She is persistent, at least. With a frown -- mostly to mask her increasing fascination and attraction to him -- Effie clumsily follows. She just needs to get a little closer to fling the water-balls.

"You are making this extremely difficult, I'll have you know!" There's far less huff in that voice than there would usually be. Possibly because she's just realized that she is still only dressed in her underwear.

"...Didn't you say you wanted to be flying by the end of the day?" He gestures to the air around him.

Because you are, Effie. You are flying. And without the wig, the silly clothes, and with your hair free, you are quite the sight.

The kind he likes to see.

"YOU ZAPPED MY HINDQUARTERS!" FLING! There goes the first ball. It falls short and the aim's not great anyway. His smile is absolutely intoxicating.

"You did ask for it, Effie,"

He would dodge again, but since it fell short, there was no reason to put out the effort. Instead, he just keeps up the hover, looking as smug and as comfortable as he would be if he were leaning against a wall on the ground.

"Besides, tell me that didn't feel good."

"It didn't feel good." THAT is obviously a lie. She flings her remaining waterball his way, trying not to imagine what other things he can do with his electricity.

This one he has to back away a little from. She's getting better with each try; he has to give her that. He keeps smiling.

"Good, you told me. Too bad I don't believe you."

Oh, he's tempted to zap her again. But not up here. She's getting better, but he doesn't want to send her to the ground. That would hurt.

She'll send herself to the ground soon enough. For one, she's out of water. And secondly, out of her element -- the river seems so much more inviting than the sky.

"I could make you believe, if only you were brave enough to come down out of the sky."

"'Brave', huh?" Oh, that gets a cocky little grin out of him.

"Or do you mean 'convenient' so that you have a better chance at getting close enough to drown me?"

"Now why on earth would I do a thing like that? I just want to wash your face!"

"I just bet you do."

That did not mean to come out sounding as dirty as it did.

Still, he'll land, fully expecting her to try something.

Maybe she shouldn't have challenged him like that. Maybe she should have kept her mouth shut.

But he's so electrical, and something in her loves that.

"Hello," she says -- simple. Formal. As though they are just meeting.

Oh, no this game, eh? He smiles, inclining his head to her.

"Good afternoon. You had something to show me?"

The sparks have died down to little flashes under the surface of his wings now.
