Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

Ahh, cash register? [ She looks uncertain. ] I don't believe we have one of those.

Then you'll have to improvise. Do you have a box?

Oh, sure, but... [ As she fetches a box: ] What for? What's a cash register?

That's where you keep the money. Or goods. I'm learning that money doesn't exactly go far in this place, but that doesn't mean that goods and services won't. ... Except you can't keep services in a box, of course.

[ Her brow furrowed. ] But...we don't have any money here. So why do we need a box for it? My goods are free.

You put time and energy into making those goods, don't you? And people just come in and take what they want. You look like a sweet, hardworking girl, and is that fair? They're taking advantage!

I get their company in return, and that's more than enough for me.

Do they always give you their company? How many of them come to see you if it's not to get your treats?

W-well...I think they just come visit me here because it's convenient. I'm sure they still would even if I wasn't working here.

[ But she hadn't ever thought about it like that before. ]

And how many of them come visit you when you're not handing them a cinnamon roll?

Some of them do! I mean, there haven't been as many lately, but...that doesn't mean they don't care.

They care about your goods. Is it so bad to get something back, for all your hard work? It's not like you're a donation service. People come in here expecting to find something hot and sweet, and I bet that you feel bad when you can't get them what they want. Why should you feel bad? You're the one providing the favor!

I-I suppose I am...

[ She wouldn't want to disappoint people. And she definitely doesn't want to be lonely. Maybe...maybe she had a point. ]

But I still don't think it's a good idea. Won't everyone stop coming altogether if they suddenly have to pay?

Then you'll know for sure that they were only coming for the food and not for you.

But if they are...I'd be alone, then.

Isn't it awful? Plenty of people have things to trade. If they aren't willing to do that because you deserve better from them, then they're just using you for your smile and your goods.

[ Her face falls, and she stares at the shadows on the ground. How she wishes she could climb into them right now. ]

I...I hadn't thought of it like that. Perhaps...you're right.

Don't let it get you down. You seem like a nice girl. That's why you have to stand up for yourself, too.

[So says the woman who has given in to a shadowy spirit's desire.]

But...how will I know how much to ask for things?

There is no money, but you can ask them what kinds of goods and services they would offer in exchange. No offer, no treat.

What's a muffin worth?

About seventy-five cents. [This girl doesn't seem to understand money, so she thinks for an analogy. Magic shop references won't work, how did they do it in normal stores again?] So one muffin could be something like, a hair ribbon. If they take a dozen, a nice piece of jewelry. Or, whatever you want.

Oh...[ Well, that didn't sound too bad. ] I wouldn't be asking for too much, then.

Exactly! It's not a bad price. If they take issue with it, then that's their fault, not yours. They could have your company anytime. But your food? That's your effort.

I do spend quite a bit of time here getting things ready...I hope they won't mind.

[ It would be better this way. It would. ]
