Possession Event

Who: People in Luceti
What: Spiritual possession
When: The 26th to the 1st
Where: Luceti!
Summary: Check out the previous mod post.
Rating: If it gets smutty, move it somewhere private.

Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

  • Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.
  • Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.
  • Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.
  • Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.
  • Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.
  • Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.
  • Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.
  • Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[The mention of spirits, possession, all of that- it rings a chord within Billy, reminding him of all the horror stories he'd read about or watched while growing up in a world full of super heroes where such things are a serious threat, where his idols have been through terrible things like that. Even his greatest role model - and mother, now - the Scarlet Witch herself had been possessed before. And now... that's what's happening? And it's because of these filial spirits, the things he's ignored since his arrival, since he has no use for magic when he's got his own to worry about?

God, as if he wasn't scared enough already. And for the first time his hand tightens in Teddy's grasp, an unconscious manifestation of those fears.]

    ...What happened back then?

Well... village-wise, things basically were as you see them now, save for the addition of the new spirit. Most of the villagers were affected, their wings growing larger, the color changing to match that of the spirit. Some of the influence was mild, while others were more dramatic. It was referred to once as an 'evolution'. Hybrids.

It was something... feared by the Organization.

[Teddy finds himself scoffing slightly at "evolution", because this feels more like a step backward to him. Sure, there are more powers, but the loss of their own personalities with it? Considering how many students from the class are gone?

Perhaps it's a step forward according to them. And that's something of a terrifying thought, as is the last sentence there.

His own grip tightens on Billy's hand as well, though his is more a show of comfort, support and protection rather than the fear he wants to convey as well. He blames the spirit so adamantly taking over, though now he's strongly considering fighting said possession.]

If it was feared, then what did they do? [And why couldn't they stop this? He'd like to ask that, but sometimes there are things that even big laboratory guys can't predict or stop.]

[Billy purses his lips and finally looks up uncertainly, waiting. If it really is like an experiment, it'll be temporary, right? It'll just... go away. Problem solved, just like always. They just have to wait it out.

This bad feeling he's got in the pit of his stomach is just guilt for what he did to Teddy. So it's fine. It's fine...]

[Raine can feel the faintest sensation of a nudge there, one that flutters with the desire of not to harm the boys with such details - but they had come to her for answers. They had to know of the possibilities. What good would protecting them from the harsh truths do if the worst came to pass?]

... The Organization was impatient, at first. They were in negotiations with John, who had the means of developing the cure. While that was going on, they tried to get the unaffected to kill those who were possessed, and when that failed, they began to arrange deaths, by shifts ...

[Taichi. Shirley. Flonne. Edward... the full list had ten names. None of them were here this time.]

... there were ten of those, in all, before the negotiations concluded and the cure was distributed.

[Teddy takes in a deep breath through his nose, jaw setting, and tightens his grip on Billy's hand. If he had his way, he might have stepped forward right then and demanded more answers, stricken by panic and the urge to do something, anything to save his boyfriend's life.

But the spirit slowly taking him over is calming, at least enough to take the Hulk out of the Hulkling. But he still frowns, and his shoulders are tense as a wire when he speaks up again.]

Do we know anything about the cure?

[Because if it was still around, it would've been distributed already. It's likely not around anymore.]
selfhelp: ([billy] what did I do now?)

[Billy wishes he was surprised, honestly. To hear that there were deaths, that this thing happening to him - them, now - is not only historical but deadly. He didn't expect to gain much comfort from this meeting, but he hadn't expected a potential death sentence, either.]

Would it even work this time...
wise_maiden: (but we give up easily)

    [personal profile] wise_maiden 2013-06-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what it involved, exactly - all I remember is that I could feel the presence leave, and not long after, my wings began to molt rather drastically until they finally reached their normal size.

As for whether it would work again... that we don't know. With Twila in the mix, and being aware that this situation is not an accidental shift, there are other factors in play that will probably complicate it. What we need to do is ... try and learn what we can do on our own about it.
