Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[He's actually being serious about this. Pepper takes another look at the lock when he touches it; there's something odd about it, but she can't quite put her finger on it yet. Still, even knowing that she's missing something, Pepper can see where this is clearly a bad idea.]

Honey, I appreciate you trying to look out for me. But a stronger lock isn't really going to help when I have to leave the house.

[alloys]

Sure, but that's not the idea. The idea is that you won't leave the house.

[ Not only does he sound completely serious about this, he sounds completely confident as well, as if there is no reason to argue. ]

[handing]

I won't--what?

[She must have heard that wrong. Must have. Except it's then when she realizes exactly what about the lock has been bugging her: it only opens from the outside.

He's going to lock her in.]

Oh no. Tony, I am not just going to stay in the house all the time. I have work at the gallery, and the welcome center, not to mention friends and a life, all of which involve me going outside.

[alloys]

[ Hm. He'd been afraid this would happen, that she wouldn't understand. Well, if she didn't get it? He'd just have to explain it to her.

He gets to his feet, crossing his arms as he faces her. ]

No - you have to stay here. Look, I get it - those things are important to you, but I have to keep you safe. And this is the only way I can do that.

[handing]

Keep me safe from what, Tony? This isn't our world. Things work differently in Luceti, and you know that. [Pepper frowns, her eyes again returning to his wings.] You're under the effects of an experiment. Look at your wings! You aren't thinking clearly.

[alloys]

[ He glances back at his wings, though he was well aware of what they now looked like. He liked them. Sure, the color wasn't as nice as his usual sharp red, but these represented something far more powerful. ]

No, you - I am thinking clearly. For the first time in - [ He can't even put a time stamp on it. ]

Please, Pepper. Just try it out for a day. For me.

[handing]

[She can already see where this is going. One day will quickly turn into more, and she has no way of knowing just how far into this protective paranoia Tony will spiral. At the same time, however, Pepper knows that there will be no convincing him to think any differently until the experiment ends.]

Alright. One day. [She is doing this for him, although not with the intentions he has in mind for it. Pepper needs to keep Tony calm while she tries to figure out how to approach this, and who else has been affected.] But we're going to talk about this again tomorrow, Tony.

[For all the good it won't do.]

[alloys]

[ The brief tension that had been creeping into him dissipated. Good, he had won a day. And without too much effort, he noted. He could do the same the next day, and the next - and however many it took to keep her safe.

It was a good feeling. ]

Right, right. Sure. Just one day, and we'll open the floor to discussion again tomorrow.

[ A discussion that he had already decided the outcome of. ]

[handing]

[She knows how it will likely end as well, but she has a day to try and get in touch with the others, and to figure out some solution to this.]

You said you wanted coffee. [In the meantime, there are other things she can address.] Were you up all night again?

[alloys]

[ He nods without hesitation. Staying up had proved to be such a great decision, he didn't regret telling her that. ]

Sure did - took a walk to Shiko's new convenience store. Nice night, actually.

[handing]

[She's a little taken aback at how shamelessly Tony admits that. But considering she can't change what's already happened, Pepper chooses to focus on what she can do now.]

Then why not go to bed for a few hours? I'll be here, so I can wake you.

[alloys]

No. Not tired. [ And that wasn't a lie. He really wasn't. Maybe the early morning air revitalized him - or maybe it was the spirit inside of him. ]

I still wouldn't say no to a cup of coffee, though.

[handing]

[There are times when Pepper feels like she could smack Tony across the back of his head—and now just might be one of them. He brushes off the suggestion of sleep, and even if he really isn’t tired, Pepper’s not pleased.]

You need to rest at some point, Tony. [And to that end, Pepper’s already decided his coffee will be of the decaf variety. Maybe she can coax him to bed later.]

[alloys]

[ He sighs, leaning back against the door frame. ] And, I will. When I'm tired - which, I have noted, I am not. So. Coffee?

[handing]

[Pepper shakes her head, but short of physically dragging him into their bedroom, she knows there's not much she can do.]

Fine. Give me a few minutes. [And she heads into the kitchen to make one pot of coffee with no caffeine.]

[alloys]

[ That was more like it. The time she took to make the coffee was enough for him to finish his modifications of the door. More than pleased with his handiwork, he heads into the kitchen. ]

That better not be decaf.

[handing]

[Strong words. Strong enough to earn him a firm look as Pepper turns to face him, one hand coming to rest on her hip.]

Excuse me. Did you just really say that it better not be decaf?

[alloys]

I did, in fact. So, please tell me that's the case.

[handing]

Why does it matter if it is or not? [Which is answer enough, but Pepper is quickly reaching the point of not caring. Even if this isn’t truly Tony, if it’s an experiment, it’s difficult not to get frustrated with how he’s acting.] Since you aren’t tired, I don’t see how it would make any difference.

[alloys]

[ His mouth curved into a frown. ]

So, you mean to say, it's decaf.

[handing]

...Yes, Tony. That is what I'm saying. The coffee is decaf.

[alloys]

[ He levels her with a remarkably unimpressed look. ]

I'll take a can of Coke, instead, then.

[handing]

Then get it yourself.

[Yes, Pepper has officially hit the point where this conversation is over. She may not be able to leave the house, but she can certainly leave the room, and she's moving to do just that. Even knowing that it's an experiment isn't a good enough reason to put up with this.]

[alloys]

Pepper -

[ Except he really doesn't want to make an argument. He already won the one he needed to. Twila quietly reassures him it's not necessary. She'd be over it later, and he could get his caffeine fix anyway. So he lets her go. ]
