Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

He lifted the book gently from her fingers and splayed it across a palm. Sharpe had never been one for art -- or, rather, he'd never been a creator of it himself unless one counted the crudely whittled animal figurines he'd started picking at since settling in this town.

"Why not?" The Major touched the paper with an inquisitive hand.

"They're not what one would want to see on a pillow or bordering a dress." She tilted her head a little, frowning at the thought and didn't think to stop herself from saying it. Richard would surely pardon her if he minded. "I suppose if a man drew them or painted them, they'd be considered romantically melancholy. But from a woman, they're simply... unladylike and disturbing."

"...They would fit some soul's pillow. Perhaps not no Lord or Lady but..." He turned a page -- daring to be curious. "I like'em, Faith."

"Do you?" She can't help but smile a little more.

"My mother only approves of my sketching if I intend to stitch from it. Anything but animals and plants and lovely little sayings is an unladylike pastime."

[greenjacketed]

"Animals kill as well as soldiers do, and she still finds'em ladylike -- eh? Ah -- no matter. You're free to sketch what you like, here."

"Oh, I think she'd be just as displeased if I drew a tiger, for instance. But little birds and rabbits and things of that nature are perfectly acceptable." She frowns briefly, shakes her head, then focuses on him again.

"I am glad you like them, Richard. Many wouldn't, I'm afraid."

"...Can you, lass? Draw tigers?"

"I..." She stops, considers it, and shakes her head. "I probably couldn't. I've never tried, and I've only seen a few drawings of them myself."

He was all too eager to impress her, large wings or no: "Seen'em myself, I have. In India. Great big bug--beasts."

"Oh, I imagine those are amazing," Faith says with a grin, sitting up straighter and leaning toward him a little.

[greenjacketed]

He'd watched them kill a man. And then he'd shot one at point blank range. But those didn't seem like good stories, so: "Regal, I suppose. They were this sultan bloke's choice pets."

[charitylovehopefaith]

Faith smiles. The black wings loosen her tongue and make her a little bolder. "A sultan? I've read about those sorts of men."

[greenjacketed]

"...Perhaps you've read of this one, aye? The Tipu of Mysore."

[charitylovehopefaith]

"I don't think I have," she admitted, smiling a little.

[greenjacketed]

"No matter."

He was dead, now. "But I'll bet you can find one of those life-like portraits of tigers in their libraries, if you wanted."

[charitylovehopefaith]

"If I didn't know better, Richard," she smiled before looking at him with a mock accusing gaze, but her lips kept twitching up, "I'd think you were trying to get me to start drawing tigers."

Her playfulness amused him. He didn't think to blame the large wings, or else didn't want to.

"Eh. I like tigers, me."

Faith chuckled then, offering him a smile. "Maybe I'll try to draw one. Or stitch one onto something."

[greenjacketed]

"...Be certain not to forget their fearsome teeth and bloody great big paws. Big as a man's face!"

A twinkle in his eye suggested he might be having some fun.

Faith can't help but chuckle. "Oh, I shall be very careful to do justice to those."

"All the better to devour Englishmen with, I've heard," he ventured -- testing the limits of her humour.

She chuckles before she can stop herself. The spirit in her lets her enjoy the idea more than she would show otherwise. Bitter? Her? Never.
