Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

"Not always. Usually people just act strange, or the environment itself gets changed around, from what I understand. People don't usually mutate."

He shifts a little on the branch, "I still feel mostly like me, if that helps. I'm not suddenly wanting to go on a rampage or anything."

She frowned as he spoke the very word she'd been thinking.

"...That's just the problem. How do you know if you still feel like yourself, when it could be the change that's duping you into that belief?"

"...I seem to have a habit of losing control of my darker nature when I'm compromised. That, and even now, the afflicted tend not to realize they're caught up. Not until towards the end. I know there's someone in here with me. And I'm not always agreeing with the pushes being offered."

[bowgunner]

"...That doesn't inspire much confidence, Bliss."

"Take it as you want; I'm juat answering your question. Point is, it tends to be pretty damned obvious when I go off the rails. Not that I expect you to know what that would look like."

Since they're barely on their second exchange.

"If you aren't affected, I'd just suggest using some caution until you can get the measure of the people around you, see what they're most likely to do in reaction to things. They're...not interested in us so much as in..."

He has to think for a minute, while he tries to sort out what's in his own head and gut.

"Keeping us from getting taken."

[bowgunner]

Her brows raised. "...Caution is a thing I'm already taking. But it's good of you to tell me to, regardless."

Her tone played at the edges of sarcasm. She wasn't entirely prepared to go quip-to-quip with a mutating man, but -- similar to their first conversation -- she found it frustrating to have a stranger presume so much ignorance on her part.

"It's a habit," he's used to dealing with people back home who think they know better and then get their damn asses killed. Ray, bless his idiot hunter's soul, had only been the most recent example of that. So Derek tended to assume people didn't know what the hell they were doing until they proved it, or at least give as many warnings as he could to try and avoid having to bury yet another person.

It's not you Claire; it's his life.

"Anything else you want to ask that you'll only half believe, if that?"

[bowgunner]

"Not about this situation, no--" For she figured it was likely not a good idea to source her information from the infected. "But you could tell me why you're in a tree."

[rather_be_surfing]

"Because it gives a good vantage point for watching and figuring out what's going on."

And because with the wings, it's a lot easier for him to get this high without having to climb it. He's not as young as he used to be.

[bowgunner]

"You don't think it's a little...suspicious? It looks like you're lurking."

[rather_be_surfing]

"Honestly, you're the first person to notice me. And the point of watching is to watch, not be watched. The wings just make it easier to get to a preferred vantage point since I'm not sixteen anymore."

[bowgunner]

"...And how long have you been up there?"

[rather_be_surfing]

"Just a half hour. I was on a roof before this, but decided to take some downtime."

[bowgunner]

"Variety, as they say, is the spice of life."

[rather_be_surfing]

"That it is."

He'll glance up towards the village for a second.

"I'm surprised to see someone unaffected. Seems like it got almost everyone."

[bowgunner]

"What can I say? I've always been special."

Her tone was wry. If anything, she was about as unspecial as they came.

[rather_be_surfing]

"Or at least lucky."

He honestly hopes her luck doesn't run out.

[bowgunner]

"I'm not so certain I believe in luck."

[rather_be_surfing]

"There's certain amount of chance to anything. Especially here."

[bowgunner]

"Oh, I trust in chance. But luck is chance taking sides, and I don't believe it does that either."

[rather_be_surfing]

He shrugs, "We all see what we want to see."

His wings rustle restlessly, as if he's thinking about taking off.

"For what it's worth, it doesn't seem to be too bad. Mostly a few odd interactions with other folks with the wings. But that's about it."

[bowgunner]

"...It may escalate."

[rather_be_surfing]

"And if it does, there'll be people to deal with it. We seem to have an obnoxiously high hero-to-potential problem ratio here."

Another restless rustle, "That, and I think this is temporary. Something that needs to be solved and we're just the vehicles for it. That's the feeling I'm getting, anyway."

[bowgunner]

"...You're getting a feeling?"

Well, that's ominous.

"Would you rather I say 'input from another source'? You already seem pretty on edge with the answers I'm giving."

He opens the wings again.

"These aren't mine. And if what I'm understanding of the situation is right, then what you're seeing is people picking up a 'rider', thus the pretty colored wings and the size and the weirdness. Just from the feeling I recognize from working with him when he's not attached? I think Tsinku is the one that's got hold of me. He's restless, but he's not interested in hurting the folks in the village. Or least that's the impression I'm getting since the spirits don't talk the way we do."
