Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[He sighed, but remained on his guard. This stranger's interest had earned his own curiosity-- but those wings, black as the shadows behind the moon-- made something bristle in the back of his mind. He wasn't entirely conscious of the depth of the situation, but Barnaby was intelligent enough to wonder if there were more effects than just the powers and the wings.

Everyone that currently had large wings in the enclosure had some kind of power. What was this man's?]

I don't believe we've met before tonight. Is there something I can help you with?

[But Richard just shakes his head, raising his arms in an approximation of a shrug and to show that he's unarmed. No, there's no sword on his belt, not tonight. Granted, that doesn't mean at all that he's incapable of fighting, but it makes him look just that much less threatening when he approaches others.]

I was just passing by when I spotted those flames of yours and decided to come take a better look. One doesn't normally see fire on the roof of a building that has such a benign cause, after all. I'm glad to see that it wasn't the roof itself that was the source.

[It's a good show, for sure, but Barnaby is well aware of just how dangerous a person could be without weapons. He was among those. But it was clear that this stranger wasn't out to fight or attack, at least on the surface. It would be rude if Barnaby didn't treat him just as politely.]

Hm. That would be worrisome. At least there's plenty of people around who can control water, if that was the case.

[The more information he can glean about who has what powers, the better. It will make his job that much easier, as well as let him know who to avoid.]

Not personally. I haven't even been in the village for a month yet.

[Unfortunately, Barnaby had no information to give.]

I see... and yet the spirits seem to have taken a liking to you already.

[How very interesting indeed.]

Haven't they taken a liking to most of the village right now?

Have they? I haven't noticed. I've been staying inside for the most part lately; the weather has been far too warm for my tastes.

[More like "too much sunlight," but details.

[No, it was too warm too.]

The wings are an indicator, right? It's pretty common to see them this size in the village right now.

I had simply assumed it was our captors deciding to give us a bit of a fashion update, though I'm afraid mine aren't much of an improvement. The green was far more striking.

[And he turns now, just a bit, to show off his black wings.]

Their taste could use work if that's the case. Still... [He rubbed his chin as he studied the stranger, and the wings, a little closer.]

We shouldn't write them off so quickly. Black suits you.

[Richard just smiles sweetly, innocently, as if the compliment pleases him.]

Why thank you. I personally find the color a bit dull, but I can't argue that it does suit me rather well.

Now that you mention it, it might look good on you too.

[He smiled in return, easily falling back into habits that were honed by the constant presence of a camera.]

Thank you, although I find that I like the current colors quite a bit. They're closer to my style.

Hmm... they do go quite well with your hair. I certainly can't argue with that.

I just wish they made it easier to wear my jacket, is all. I've yet to find a proper tailor for adjustments because of their normal size, but this makes it impossible to work with.

[Yes, good, good. Barnaby (he remembers this man's name now) seems to be growing more comfortable around him as they speak. That's just what he needs if he wishes to entice the other blond to join him...]

[He's simply being superficial. It's easier to hide any hints of frustration underneath a smile and a veneer of calm than by completely closing down. Barnaby didn't know this man...but he did know that he had a rep. He didn't know who all in the village knew anything about him.]

All Passions? I heard there was a couple of tailors in town but I haven't had a chance to speak with them about commissions yet. They wouldn't be without compensation either, of course.

[Ironically, Richard is exactly the same way... not that he's aware of this yet. He's more focused on trying to persuade Barnaby that accepting Twila would be a good idea.]

Yes, All Passions is the specialty clothing shop in town. I believe it does tailoring as well, though unfortunately its original owner returned to her world not long ago. I'm not sure who has since taken up that position.

[Barnaby couldn't care less about Twila at that moment. Richard has suddenly turned into a source of information.]

It'd be a shame if no one has. I wonder how many new arrivals have taken to butchering their shirts to accomodate the wings.

[Richard laughs, then extends a hand out to the other man. He may know Barnaby's name already, but at this point, it's best for him (and for Twila) to play dumb.]

[Barnaby ignored the bristle of irritation that lingered below the surface, the cause of which unknown, and shook the hand firmly with a smile.]
